It doesnt make people think they are waiting in line, they put that idea in their own head if they think that. They wanted a random selection via lottery, here it is. Those who subscribed later are basically never going to get a chance at a house and might as well give up. Where i started in 2014, would pretty much be guaranteed a house.

No, we wanted fair, we got fair. No need or reason to ask the developers to allow longer tenured players to allow us to place a thumb on the scale.

Make them freaking mansion sized if people can pay for them. Make three sizes available, each one pegged to the lowest price of a house that size (so a mansion sized apartment would be 40M gil). Houses will still offer some clout for people who care about that sort of thing, and will still be the only options for FCs. Trust me, houses won't go unused if they do this.

Because a lot of players state they are only interested in ward housing and would never accept instanced housing. They want to feel like they're in a living neighborhood and they're willing to risk demolition to get that feeling.

Outside yard is worth risking demolition to me if SE never implements an instanced housing system that includes both interior and exterior spaces. I want that slice of nature as part of my housing (though I'd be happier without neighboring houses blocking views). Right now, it's impossible to convincingly recreate that in housing interiors.

That's not going to stop me from dreaming that we might one day get something on the scope of RIFT Dimensions. Realistically, I don't think SE would ever deliver it despite the good first steps added with Island Sanctuary.

Nobody with common sense is going to take a ward plot that requires you to keep a active subscription and 45 day mandatory check-in, over a instanced plot of the same size that exempt from being demolished. I own an FC and a private, i cant even leave for longer then 2 weeks. If you get exactly what you want, thats a boon to me. why wouldnt i want this, i could move my homes into spaces that i dont have to upkeep my subscription for? Whats 20 slots and crossbreeding, when i can drop my suscription without fear of losing my work?


but why would S.E want that? If they were to give you what you want,they are just as likely to put a demo timer on your instanced house, because they are not just going to let the free income just walk away. When they have suckers like myself who kept a sub up for 5 years+ in part to keep my house regardless of the content drought or low points in the game. Now if you want to vouch for me reasons to finally let my sub lapse for alil while, by all mean go for it.

But theirs a profit motive for them to leave the system the way it is. But im aware that i willingly walked into the trap, and they get basically free money for as long as my interest in the plot holds

If you want to say most most players aren't going to want a ward house when they won't have to worry about demolition if they have an instanced house, then I'll agree.

Saying "nobody" would is incorrect and to imply they lack common sense if they choose to retain a ward house is ignorant. We're talking content in a game. Subjective preference is going to win out.

Youre not making ward housing appealing, by making it an objective worse version then a instanced house. For 20 outdoor slots and crossbreeding, you too can be "encouraged" to perma subscribe and if you leave longer then 45 days, you will have all your time and effort destroyed and if youre gone too long, you wont even get your items back.

I say lack of common sense, because even you admit that most players wouldn't choose it because it requires upkeep of an active subscription to keep a ward house. Over a house of the same size, that doesn't get demolished regardless of how long youve been gone. Crossbreeding and 20 slots isnt worth such a steep trade off if you weigh the pros and cons. You dont make ward housing more appealing, by making it less appealing.

S.E only lets that free income walk away in certain circumstances, they dont just shut the timer off on a random Tuesday just because they feel generous, they do it from natural disasters, or the coved-19 pandemic. And even then the timer keeps running. If they arnt back by the time S.E turns back on the demo timer, their house is gone the moment the switch is flipped. SO its best to check in once a month anyway so when they do flip the switch back on, your timer would be partly reset.

In which case they dont, after a month their house gets demolished, and the house goes back up for sale. Right? But if you have any investment into what you worked on and a bare minimum interest in the game, what's the price of a drive through-meal once a month? If you plan on continuing to still play in the future, you might want to continue to check in, because if you lose your plot now, it might be awhile before you see another one with 3 attempts at housing a month now.

You are asking for them to eliminate the difference between a house and an apartment. This isnt "house vs apt". This is a " ward house with a demo time vs an instanced house of the same size, without a demo timer". And for me thats a no-brainer because i dont have to be on-top of my logins so stringently and if i cant reach my PS5 im not going to lose one of my plots within 14 days and the other within a month.

Again, what is "appealing" is subjective. Different individuals are tolerant of different degrees of risk and while some are susceptible to sunk cost fallacy, not all are. I wouldn't be bothered about starting over from scratch in housing if I had to -I've already been through it once and at that time I didn't have the hundreds of millions of gil I've since accumulated.

I can agree with you if you were to say "most players". I can't agree when you say "nobody".

Even if you are correct and "nobody" would want a ward house if a solid instanced housing system was implemented, then it doesn't sound like the game would be losing out on anything. It could very well attract more players to the game that are only interested in housing and not other game content, individuals who currently don't bother because of perception that it's impossible to get a house (even though there are plenty available on Dynamis, Materia and some random worlds).

Also, im like 95% sure youre wrong about this. When they pause the timer, they pause the timer. If you were at 16 days and 13 hours, then you stay at 16 days and 13 hours. If you enter the house once during that pause, it should reset to 0 days. This is why every time they unpause a timer, the big load of houses show up on the market 45 days later. Historically, its always been a handful of houses spread out over those first 6 weeks then one big lot all at once.

And Jojoya is 100% correct that some people would still want a ward house if instanced houses were upgraded. I wont speculate on the percentage or their mental state, but those people are real. There are people who would want it for the outdoor amenities, there are those who would want it because its always loaded in the world, and there are those who would want it just because not everyone can have it. A majority of people would still want ward housing, that person you quoted lives in some kind of a dream world in which people wouldnt mind being put in an entire ward alone with pre-decorated houses all around them completely soulless, instanced housing in any way it's provided would be a subpar housing system and ward housing will always be superior, there is no buts about it, it will always be, you have an actual world out there, with actual people, you have a proper garden that you can show others, they dont need to go through 3 loading screens to get to your so called "instanced house" which as I mentioned above is just a "nice looking" house in an absolutely soulless area full of pre-fabricated houses.

Feel like too many people read priority in relations to subscription time, when in reality it'd probably be based off of how many weeks you've been consistently placing deposits down on houses without winning.

Basically bad luck mitigation.

Think of it like this: 30 people lose the roll and don't get their house. If they place another deposit the week after on a house that's the same size or bigger, then they have +1 priority where everyone with higher priority rolls before everyone without. People with priority that lose the roll gain +1 up to a stack of 10. If you go a week without bidding then you lose 1 priority, and you lose all your priority if you win the house but don't accept it.

Or if you don't want to make it difficult for first time bidders then change it so priority only removes a certain amount of lower rolls. +1 priority forces your rolls within 10-100, +2 forces it within 20-100 and it goes up to +10, with increments of 10 at each priority, except +10 where it's only 95-100. Same rules apply about having to bid every week on a house the same size or larger, and about losing priority for each gap week and losing all priority if you win the house but decline it.

This wouldn't not make it luck based, but it would give you some advantage for consistently putting bids out there week after week and not winning.

It’s funny how people try come up with a bunch of non-sense intricate systems meant to eliminate competition. This skewed dice roll system could lead to interesting results to say the least. It would also encourage people to keep bidding every week on a plot at least as big (if there is even one), regardless of how desirable it is. Nah! Just keep it simple, current lottery works fine given the finite housing system: everybody interested in a given house has the same chance plus there is a guaranteed single winner…

If anything has to change, it’s the housing system itself so that everyone who wants a house should be able to get one without leaving their community.

I mean the current system isn't anyone's first choice. Everyone outside of the house hoarders wants to see SE add further housing, preferably with instances so the competition disappears, but other solutions like building up apartments or improving IS would be nice too.

We all know they're not going to do that, so we might as well try to make the current system as good as we can. The only bad thing about using either of the band-aid fixes I suggested would be when SE inevitably screws up the implementation and we end up with a couple of weeks of broken housing rolls that no one wins.

Fairer than all the proposals I have read in this thread that would give an unfair advantage based on what the poster think could play in their favour. The only problem is that there are not enough houses on most servers, especially not of a certain type, and some people refuse to settle for anything else than their “dream” house.

Is a gamble really fair? Everyone seems to be equal footing, but inevitably there will be some people that get more favorable results than others through no fault of their own.

There's nothing wrong with add some degree of bad luck mitigation for the people that spend month after month throwing up deposits and reclaiming them.

By the way, it's not even bias on my part. I had a med for almost a year, and eventually moved into a large. It's just the logical solution if they want to keep the current system. We could probably even build on it to add a way to incentivize people buying up smalls while they wait to win meds/larges.

True, it’s the lack of supply that’s the problem. So many of these arguments would disappear if we had a fully functional instanced option. Let those who think housing is some kind of prestige system fight it out in the wards, and let everyone else have the housing experience they want to have. If they can pull off housing mirage, that’s great for addressing lack of supply of different sizes, but it doesn’t help if you don’t have a house at all.

And yes, never forget the “winning number is 0” bug! lol I just think that any seemingly fair priority system isn’t really going to help anything, because the places where the number of bidders are highest and thus the more frustrating lottos, every loser on a 100+ bid property is going to go into the next round with the same priority. And they’ll most likely be bidding against each other in the next round, and the round after that, due to the limited supply, so I don’t see the benefit to anyone really. The only people it would seem to disadvantage is new people and those who can’t consistently bid every round. One could argue if you’ve been here longer you’ve been waiting longer and deserve it more, or that if you can’t manage to find 1 out of 5 days to bid, you probably won’t have the house long before it’s demoed anyways, but no matter what, someone will be upset.

And when said bad luck mitigation doesn't lead to positive results for 90% of players because they're still pitted against hundreds of others in the same position?

Players will be just as unhappy as they were before it was added, just as players are now just as unhappy as they were before the lottery was added.

Adding more systems to try to create "fairness" when the underlying problem isn't fixed doesn't help.

Honestly I am kind of surprised SE doesn't relo FC houses into the FC only wards in the same plot. While I realize this is far from perfect the 2 big qualifiers I would use are.
1.If no one in the FC has a apartment/private in the current ward of the FC
2. Youngest FC moves first - once the slots are done the shuffle stops.

Not sure if that would help as much as hinder as I know many venues might get their address broken - but honestly I tend to see a lot of empty FC only plots.

Following that I would allow owners of houses to instantly relo to the FC ward - my logic being that some players would take the oppertunity to move their houses next to their friends in the same ward.

In general I think its apparent that FC's are not finding themselves without a place to settle - but rather they might have trouble if they are being picky (ergo only wanting a medium+)

So it would be wasted development time implenting it the same way as it was with Bozja/Zadnor content, which is way different from this.

Same. The only way I'd bother with an instanced house is if it was a castle twice as big as a mansion and had even more furniture storage space, but we all know that's not going to happen. They would have made apartments bigger if it was possible for everyone to have a huge house interior.

Apartments were an almost straight copy/paste of FC private chambers. It was a low effort implementation, likely because SE didn't anticipate the true demand for personal housing and they were still uncertain about the game's future.

It's very possible for everyone to have a huge instanced area. Other MMORPGS were doing it before FFXIV relaunched. We all have our very own Island Sanctuary now after all. Even if you take into account just the Hideaway portion of the island where we are allowed to place outdoor furnishings, it is far larger than the combined interior plus exterior space of a mansion. Clearly it is possible.

I don't understand the pushback against a better instanced housing system for those who want it when almost no one is saying take away the ward houses. Those who have and want the ward houses can continue to have those. Those who would prefer the instanced housing could have that. If the access to the instanced housing was integrated into the wards in a fashion similar to the apartment buildings, it would potentially increase traffic within the wards so they stop feeling like ghost towns.

I disagree. We've had large solo instance maps before, but how much they can be customized with item placement and rotation is the limiting factor. The island only holds 90 housing items which is fewer than an apartment does (100 placed, 100 stored). And you can't actually put those furnishings there, only copy their appearance. I wonder if that's yet another technical limitation or a way to keep people paying for extra retainers.

Quite a few are suggesting to either take away ward houses or to gut them, for no other reason than "I don't like it and that's why it should be nerfed." I've seen people asking to delete people's houses, remove or nerf housing features such as submarines and salvage, convert fc houses to a basic looking fc hall at the GC and to hide ward houses by loading instanced houses on top of them. They definitely don't want ward house owners to continue to have their fun.

If anything, instanced housing would be a perfect way to shut people up when they start yet another whiny thread about how to ruin ward housing or the lottery system. That's why I would welcome it.

It's very possible for everyone to have a huge instanced area. Other MMORPGS were doing it before FFXIV relaunched. We all have our very own Island Sanctuary now after all. Even if you take into account just the Hideaway portion of the island where we are allowed to place outdoor furnishings, it is far larger than the combined interior plus exterior space of a mansion. Clearly it is possible.

I don't understand the pushback against a better instanced housing system for those who want it when almost no one is saying take away the ward houses. Those who have and want the ward houses can continue to have those. Those who would prefer the instanced housing could have that. If the access to the instanced housing was integrated into the wards in a fashion similar to the apartment buildings, it would potentially increase traffic within the wards so they stop feeling like ghost towns.

Literally over 50% of yall asking for this instanced housing system want ward housing to be gone, some even wanting for it to be "transfered to instanced over night so people dont have a choice" as a good example of it (taken from an actual post on GD)

let's not pretend here lmao, multiowners are just existing and having their fun but the other side of it which is the people agaisnt it are the absolute most toxic part of this community I have ever seen

"There's houses on Dynamis, but I want them to take away the multiowners houses !!!! they're taking people's houses SE!!!!" meanwhile there's thousands of houses open with 0 bids.

Same was for Sagi on EU which was an empty wasteland, but apparently I was "taking other people's houses" somehow.

or the good old

"multiowners should have all their houses taken away and only get to keep one !!"

and so much more

same vibe goes for this instanced/ward stuff, it's all just peak toxicity of wanting to take things away from people because they cant get it.

In the end, it's all in the hands of the JP community, and they dont want it, they literally have no need for it as they have ample available housing, so the devs dont want it either, yall can keep yelling on the EU/NA forums, they really dont care.

We had a Priority system, it sucked. It was ruled by plaque clicker bots and the houses were legit being sold on grey markets for real world money.

This is the better system; we just need more plots or more people willing to move to other servers to take ownership of barren housing wards.

The real solution would be to have housing attached to some sort of mega-server that could functionally share small slivers of each individual server so folks wouldn't feel that far detached from their respective home realms. That may be the dev's intention if they can get Cloud tech to work in their favor.

That's a very interesting thought on the cloud servers. I was trying to figure out how/why they would be used.
