This is surreal... I was still on PS4 when SB launched, and I remember waiting in that PlayStation countdown preloads have... and now it's just free!

You're thinking about it from the wrong direction. They're not going to explain the raid to people who haven't done it, precisely because they haven't done it. The events have not happened. Their lack of sidequest completion has left reality in a slightly non-canon state where the Scions departed the First having only helped with the very preliminary exploration of the Empty, and Ryne hasn't even met Gaia yet.
This is simply how the game handles non-completion of sidequests – compare the quest that touches on your progress in Coil when Alisaie joins the party at level 60. You can see there are points where both Alphinaud and Alisaie's dialogue is loaded up with multiple script options depending on where you got to with those quests: didn't even meet with Alisaie; did the first stage; got far enough for Alphinaud to be involved; completed the whole thing.
So there is likely to be variable dialogue in the same vein to account for multiple stages of Eden, but then also they seem to have worked out ways to have characters conditionally appear in cutscenes now, so it's possible that Gaia will be there if she exists to be there. Or at least Ryne will talk about her, and perhaps she can be found elsewhere in the Crystarium.
Regardless of exactly how they acknowledge it, there will have to be a resolution for the MSQ that doesn't totally rely on Eden being the answer. Perhaps it gets handled through Ryne's power as the Oracle somehow.
My longstanding suspicion is that they're angling for further sidequest development on this front, and MSQ is just helping to get things in place for that. We could have a mega sidequest merger of role quests + Triad + Eden + post-MSQ thing for Zero.
So, what could we actually do with a massive voidsent prison that works by requiring us to perform dangerous and forbidden summoning rites to deliberately drag a powerful voidsent into the Source, give it a physical form to use and then attempt to imprison it?
Doubly so if you're thinking about using it on Zeromus, where the whole point is getting Azdaja out of it, not sealing the whole thing away.
One thing quite clear from the Void Ark storyline is that the ship was an unsuccessful prison. The voidsent got out and nearly wreaked havoc. We might be able to subdue it, but it would still be a matter of dropping a ticking time bomb in the Source.
Stops the ones who already unlocked them on their main account and have been cheesing this whole time...
Now we pressure SE into making the roulette locked if you don't have a raid unlocked at a certain ilvl.. don't have Void ark and the others unlocked at 60 to bad.. you can't do Alliance roulette until you fix that. An so on an so on for each capstone level.. just like mentor or expert roulette
I have all 90s on my main (other than blue mage of course) while still in post-Stormblood, wonder if this will stop me from queueing alliance raid roulette until I've completed Endwalker?
The clusters were nice to be able to get from in need bonus when levelling roulettes' wasnt the same role...
After the changes to alliance raid roulette I sure won't ever be using it ever again. Pretty sure it be harder for the new players that need Crystal Tower Raid for the MSQ.
The higher raids also give nice glamours and I'm still trying to get quite a few of them. For CT I got all of it ages ago.
You're thinking about the concept from the point of using the Void Ark in the exact same way as Mhach did. Why summon them to the source...when we have a massive void gate on the moon that takes us DIRECTLY to the problem? We also have several mages with varying levels of mastery over multiple forms of magic and higher understanding of some magics that Mhach hadn't even thought of. We also have magitek and the entirety of Sharlayan and Radz brightest minds on speed dial. As well as the Iron Works. Yes, the original incarnation of the Void Ark would likely fail. But a REVISED or REMODELED Void Ark, well...that's just theory at this point. But, the entire point of what I was saying in that part of my post is that it irks me that Shadows of Mhach was not referred to once during an arc dealing with Voidsent and the 13th. From the Void Ark to the Nullstone (Which to my knowledge, Cait Sith still has.) there were things that could've been referenced or nodded to through the story...but we just sorta...didn't. Which is ultimately a shame. But what's done is done.
That rarely works out well in practice. Players tired of being forced into content they don't enjoy quit the game, and then the game really would be dying.
What they need to do is stop gating content behind other non-MSQ content. If you have a story created for a piece of side content that you decide you want to expand on, expand the side content. Were you happy that anyone who wanted the relic weapons for Endwalker had to complete all the Hildibrand quests first? Was that really in the best interests of the game? I enjoy Hildibrand so I was already up to date but I think it was the wrong choice considering how many players don't enjoy it and were unhappy they needed to complete it.
You're going way beyond what we were ever shown the Void Ark was capable of or designed to achieve. That's not neglecting to bring up an existing plot point, but inventing an entirely new and speculatory one.
And again, simply imprisoning Zeromus is no use, because then Azdaja is imprisoned along with it.
Also again, the Void Ark is an imperfect seal that has already failed once, or been broken into by other voidsent seeking to devour those inside. Who's going to spend the rest of eternity making sure the sealed evil in a can doesn't get unsealed again the moment you turn your back?
Yes, this will probably stop players from being able to queue in the roulette if they don't have access to gear that's appropriate for their level. They will have to choose between 1) buying gear with gil, 2) focusing on MSQ instead, 3) doing dungeons for their tomestones or 4) queuing into 1-5 specific raids instead of using the roulette. This doesn't prevent anyone from playing with friends or from doing alliance raids.
A lot of nice QoL changes in this patch. Thank you!

I'm glad we got an update about them working on the removal of columns and such inside of houses. I was worried that they'd go radio silent and we'd never hear about it again or not til post 7.0 only to be told sorry it's not doable.
No, that is bringing up an existing plot point. And then one can mention how the Ark failed those of Mhach, and then another can mention we can repurpose the Void Ark. You are not thinking through this with an open mind.
Azdaja is another reason why it is weird Shadows of Mhach hasn't been brought up, because we like could've used the Nullstone here. Remember, during his boss fight in Dun Scaith, Diabolos uses the Nullstone to fuse himself with Scathach to become Diabolos Hollow. If the Nullstone can fuse two high level voidsent together...could it not also separate them? (Like, literally this is something I can imagine Y'shtola or Urianger could bring up in regards to the Nullstone.) Shadows of Mhach could've been brought up, but wasn't, and that's the entire point here that irks me. There are ways it could've been brought up and incorporated but wasn't. To my knowledge, I just woke up and haven't touched the patch yet. So...maybe they do bring it all up at the last second.
Plus, including Shadows of Mhach would also mean more time with The Redbills. And I would pay TOP! FUCKIN'! DOLLAR! To see Leofard and Cait Sith interact with the scions! Leofard and Estinien in the same room, just has me chuckling at the thought. Y'shtola and Cait Sith in the same room would be such an interesting time.
Anyways, off to play the patch. WEEEEEEE!
We were told what the Nullstone does: "disperse the very essence of even the most potent entity, obliterating it completely". I assume that comes with an additional note that it only works on summoned voidsent and not all kinds of entities, or that is far too dangerous a plot device to have loose – too easy a problem-solver, too dangerous a threat.
I don't believe it had anything to do with Diabolos absorbing Scathach, certainly not based on what that very plotline had told us it was for, even before the 6.X storyline made it clear that voidsent fight among themselves and consume each other to gain more power if given a chance. At most, if he was wielding the Nullstone at the time (I would have to rewatch the scene to confirm), maybe he broke her earthly form so he could absorb her soul.
In any case, yet again, we do not want to go obliterating Zeromus completely.
even if you had said content unlock that doesn't stop you from getting the augmented gear that is available after unlocking said alliance raids if you are over level from HW, StB, or ShB. besides its ilevel locked ot its respected raid for example in CT it will locked to either ilvl 70, 80, 90 but also its easy to point out the big change and forget that the rewards have been increased depending on the alliance raid. so harder upper-level alliance raids in theory should give you better returns on your on time invested.
Patch day takeaways:
- Expert and Mentor Roulette were missing from DF until the new duties were unlocked. Don't recall that being the case in the past.
- Only one Custom Delivery person (Zhloe) had a crafting bonus this week, even though it's supposed to be at least 2 people now. Could have something to do with the new girl, but of course she couldn't and didn't have the bonus.
- Queue'd for Thaleia early this morning as a tank and it was a 30+ minute wait. Swapped to RDM and it took 30 seconds (inside were, wait for it, 7 RDMs and a single melee). There was no first time bonus either. If that's normal for current alliance raids then I somehow didn't notice before.
- Final boss intro cutscene in the new dungeon is LONG. It rivals the Shiva trial.
- Bits of lag and long loading screens here and there, probably to be expected.
- Y'shtola cutscenes are still cringe.
If you play tank you're better off joining a pf than hard queuing for new alliance raids.
Too many people thinking "if I tank, I'll get in faster" and suddenly everyone is trying to be tank and the other roles get neglected.
One thing I would really like them to change with the queuing system is to show the entire status of the queue in the "forming party" HUD element. Right now, the numbers only count your current party and don't count over the maximum, so I assume currently if there were 10 tanks, 10 healers and 10 DPS queuing for an alliance raid, the first three tanks in the queue would see 3/3, 6/6, 10/15; the next three tanks would see 3/3, 4/6, 0/15 and the tenth tank might think they're the only person queuing for the whole raid.
I would like this to change so that everyone would see 10/3, 10/6, 10/15 and it is easier to identify where the gaps are and what role you should switch to to get in faster.
Tank queue wasn't too surprising, if a bit longer than expected. Just the fact that it lumped so many RDMs without missing a beat gave the impression most DPS were queuing as that.
That and those tanks most likely want gear since they're guaranteed to get it. I had the same idea in mind.
