Toggle Jump

A jump toggle doesn't seem like such a bad idea in light of this - and quite frankly, it was a waste of resources.

**I seriously hope I'm wrong on this, and they give jumping a real purpose (eg. FFX-2, FFXIII, etc), but we have zero evidence at all that this is anything more than: /loljump

I'm not particularly against jump, but when it's implemented I want some use out of it. Otherwise....it really is a waste of time, what would be the point of introducing a new mechanic and not make any use out of it>.> Hell Just give us some platforming elements where we have to sorta climb a mountain or something...

He also said in another interview that they may add some game play mechanics to the jump feature in future, there is only so much they can do at once.

There will be many things which will be added post 2.0, so get ya panties unfurled and quieten down.

Hmm is that pre or during/post E3? Cuz I don't think Yoshida would contradict the latest statement o.O The only thing he ever mentioned wanting mechanics revolving around this kind of feature was swimming if he sees a need for it.

Glad its coming, love getting to random places with it. Also I'm one of those people that like to spam jump, no reason don't know why. Maybe because it keeps me focused and doing something?

You won't be getting to random places with jump here so unless you like spamming jump just to see it then you'll definitely be happy.

Jumping as a purely non-essential mechanic is annoying enough. Christ help us all if it DID affect battle.

We're already getting slaughtered by positioning fights on the Primals and now you want to add a 3rd axis?!

People might argue that Jump is a waste of resources, yes i do somewhat agree it is a somewhat waste of resources because i too am not a big fans of jumping coming from FFXI. However, it is probably already done, you can't undo what has been done.

This jump-filter ideas however have not been done and i think its a waste of resources.

There will plenty of opportunity for them to add places and area's that take advantage of it, especially if people ask for it.

If you are so disgusted with the idea of players bunny hopping non stop ask them to add a stamina bar.

The dev team are pretty proud of their animations in this game so I can't see them adding a toggle which would make things look funky at best.

It's a metaphor. I was not referring to the Relic weapons but rather a symbol of the Thing that shall not be named and will burn in hell for all existence for sucking so bad mechanic.

I mean honestly, people are STILL complaining about them adding a jump mechanic? it doesn't matter if its completely useless people, 1. there is a ton of request for this feature to be added. 2. they are already adding it. Seriously this thread is pointless. I get people want to voice their opinion but my god, this is just ._.

On a side note, people won't be bunny hopping all over the place as drastically as some of you believe they will be. Maybe the first few days the feature is added for the sake of shits and giggles. But a lot of you people against the jumping feature seem to seriously believe people will bunny hop for hours on end. please get a grip on reality.

Errr you misunderstood me. I jump all the time, but what I meant is is that regardless of whether or not they specifically add things to jump around like puzzles, we gamers will find stuff in the games which they didn't even imagine was possible! And I don't want any toggle jump on / off every1 should be able to do it and see it hands down, tbh this is a weird convo :S

A better solution would be to make jump more meaningful. If I can tap space-bar to have my character leap into the air, then I better damn well be able to traverse over small ledges of terrain. No more Ankle size one way drops. That's what I want for jump.

Or to simply not have added a useless feature in the first place? Like hiding head/main hand gear, there was a pointless player choice they added and gods we all hate that. Oh wait, no one complains about having choices, people complain about having no choice or having choices removed.

Onto other thoughts:
Why does everyone want to defend every decision SE makes you can't really feel the way you seem to claim or you would be pissed they've made all these changes so far........

Don't jump at that if the shoe doesn't fit don't wear it, if it does and your just defending things to create arguments for ???? sake stop.


Edit: I should mention that while I do find it horribly annoying when people spam jump, I also find it annoying when people spam, say/shout/emote/drawweapon, these things happen and will, I'm able to turn and look the other way if it's that bad. That doesn't make it any less annoying. If you really think it's great to add more random crap to spam, that "has no actual purpose in the game" that's just peachy. But why hate the idea that people would like to not have to see it. It's an idea, and it's not a bad one.

If you can deal with that, you can deal with jump. That goes for everyone else. I also find it annoying when people break out laughing non-stop, and playing around with their moogle weapons. But, you don't see me QQ'ing for a toggle off feature.

I have nothing against jump, and I'll use it when I feel I have to. Over a ledge, a hole, or over a fence. It looks way better than hovering or magically passing through it.

jumping to cancel spells..? now that would get annoying..

I'd laugh if people's avatars still lifted off the ground and the game just filtered the jump animation. In all seriousness, no.

It's called juking. pretty useful in PvP, because you can easily trick people into trying to interrupt you.

It's one of the multiple ways you can cancel a spell. :) Alternate methods include moving and pressing the esc key (which was mentioned in the post I quoted).

The devs can invoke an invisible wall around that little pebble and there will be no way for you to jump over it because of the invisible wall. Period.

Well, there is stuff like Intense Cold (Keristrasza) and Biting Cold (Hodir). Both were mechanics where if you stood still you would get Intense/Biting Cold stacks building on you (which did multiplicative damage on you depending on the number of stacks). One way to keep the effect from stacking on you was jumping in place (because the game registered jumping as movement), which was also very helpful to melee because it meant they could stand in range. There's also stuff like adds that cling to you that you have to shake off by jumping (like the baby crocs in Uldum).
