Hilarious.
Assuming we get a new gang.
It would be nice, made a alt Horthgar, and playing through the ARR, and i just stick out like a like a sore thumb all the time.

Give em a long slicked back lion's mane and beard. :3
And since quite a few Hrothgar were conscripts of the Garleans, maybe he could be one and maybe even another former member of Gunhildr's Blades.
I can imagine this character being a rather unusually large Hrothgar covered in scars from head to toe and wielding a massive axe.
Just let me look like Rengar or Ajani Goldmane :^)
Same.
Whilst I'm not really an advocate for comic-book style resurrections of dead characters I do wish we could've seen more of her. I mean, in the grand scheme of things she wasn't really with the Scions for very long, but her part in the overall story was a lot more significant than it is generally given credit for. And whilst upsetting, her passing ended up being overshadowed by Haurchefant and Ysayle, with very little reference being made to her until we meet her parents in Endwalker.
You're not the first one to say this but honestly I'm not too sure where this comes from. Take for exemple Runar and Bajsaljen and they hardly look like they're from the same species of feline. So why do people think they all look the same? (Though the fact that you said your friends love Hrothgar "for some reason" might be an answer to that question)
I never read this comment for FemRoe players and basically all of them use the exact same face. Is it because of the limited hairstyle selection or lack of hats?
But then I've also read people say that Hrothgar are unexpressive when they have the more over the top emotes in the entire game. Maybe they just don't want to pay attention.
I don't get it either. Other than the fact that most every hroth uses the same face model (the one you are using) hroths are the easiest for me to tell apart, due to the various fur pattern and color combos.
What is actually impossible is telling Lala's and male au'ras apart. they all look like copies of each other. Actually I struggle a lot with telling most players apart on race alone. Glam is what makes the most difference, but a lot of players I see, runs around in very samey glams, so even that starts getting hard aswell.
If we are to exclude races from being scions bases on unique looks, we simply can't add anyone at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If they find a way to add unique design elements to such a Hrothgar NPC that stop them being as deep into the uncanny valley as they are for me at the moment, sure, why not? I don't know what that design element would be, since I am not a psychologist who can explain which part of their currnet design causes them to be in the uncanny valley for me, but I am sure the character designers at Square can figure out what might cause that. If they then make those customisation options available to Hrothgar players, even better.
And if that's not in the cards, maybe the design for female Horthgar will be a chance to remedy that problem.
Otherwise, I wouldn't be a fan, but if they did it anyway, I wouldn't be up in arms about it either. All the Hrothgar we had so far in MSQ and Bozja were uncanny and I didn't mind them much, either. And just like with Bozja, it would be an excellent way to deliver more lore about the regions they are from.
Also, it is as always amusing how many people can get upset when they ask people about what boils down to their personal taste and then don't like the answer, or the answer to their answer.
Okay, you're missing the point of why that happened.
Imagine, if you will, that your race (Miqo'te) has been consistently put under the radar for almost 4 years. That you're missing features since launch, and nothing had been done until now. That your feedback has been swept under the rug during all that time. With peoples' reactions to your character and your feedback being constantly negative. And when finally the devs do something, not only is it in poor quality and contributing to the uncanny valley that plagues your race, but people also use it as an excuse to make you feel worse about your decision to play Miqo'te to begin with. The devs act surprised despite everyone in the playerbase agreeing that their work was not great (if that many people think this, then the devs have a problem that needs adressing, I assume?), but deafen their ears when people ask them to be more communicative over a race that they've been neglecting. All the while, comments range from jokingly dismissive to outright insulting. For those three years, your race kept being accused of stealing another race's chance at a male version, despite the devs saying it was the other way around. And during all that time, your race kept being denied a chance to present feedback, because the moment you did, people came in and insisted you were meant to be a Limited Race. How would you feel if you had experienced all this for years in a row? Wouldn't you react defensively, given that there isn't much else in terms of shutting that down? Hrothgars other than me tried being polite. And I tried being polite as well. You don't see any of us going around town saying garbage like this whenever someone says Highlander Hyurs don't have eyebrows. Whenever Au Ra horns clip through things. Whenever Viera are missing key features as well. We don't do that. So what gives anyone the right to say this? Freedom of speech? That's not freedom of consequence, and if you insult a race this harshly, prepare yourself for similar answers.
Now, back in my old FC I had someone who absolutely loathed Lalafell. She didn't much care about the character or the player, but their appearance bothered her. Because they were too doll-like and unnatural, and she might have had some weird form of pediophobia. But she still wouldn't go to people and react to them talking about their race or asking for stuff for their race with such sheer and insulting disdain.
Even I who do find Lalafell eyes "kinda creepy" wouldn't shy away from standing with them the moment they said "Hey, my race has X issue, could you please look into that?". Such as readjusting the camera for Lalafells, which is a complaint I've seen half a dozen times popping up here and there. As well as the latest Fat Cat onesie, which glitches in their hands. And I WAS there, voicing my support for Lalafell and bringing attention to the quality level that led to it.
We don't need to like something to understand that behind the characters there's a player. A player who, much like you might, does enjoy their character, a lot.
The problem was never that they had opinions. The problem is the way they presented it, with bile and disdain. Saying that you don't support the race having more prevalence and allow the players of such a buffeted race to find enjoyment of it with more relevant/prominent NPCs. Because you can't tell me that ivtrix saying that Hrothgar are better off not existing is normal, or that male Miqo'te being so adamant about Hrothgar not having any further major representation out of their own unique hate for the race is normal. That you won't support players of that race just because it's not your cup of tea. There are ways and moments to express that a given race is uncanny. This isn't it. And whenever there's a thread on Hyurs, Miqo'te, Au Ra, you won't find this much vitriol toward those races. But when Hrothgar and Viera do, people feel entitled to come in and not just post their take on the race, but use it as an excuse to say really nasty crap. "Law of Attraction"? SPARE ME. There's NOTHING that justifies being an ass.
We don't do it. Why do you guys?
The worst I'VE done was a TROLL THREAD, i.e., A JOKE, on that Hyurs should be deleted. But guess what, I love Highlander Hyurs, they're up there on my list of favourite races. I just got tired of shit comments like "Hrothgars should be skinned alive" every other thread and decided to poke some fun. One which I do regret doing because it was honestly stupid. But that's ME. You have others here. How do you think they feel?
IS THIS THE SORT OF COMMUNITY YOU GUYS WANT?
One that pretends to be good but makes specific people that did nothing wrong feel like shit every single time?
Anyway, about what you said on there being an uncanny valley? Even I have to agree. At some points I look at my character and I think it doesn't look right. It looks so weird. And I should be used to anthropormorphic animals, given the community I frequent. But no, you're right, there's something odd about them. I personally think this face is the best out of the four. Runar's face makes me think of "catfish", and it just doesn't look right. The other two much less. Maybe your aversion is greater than mine, and that's fine. What we should strive for is telling Square Enix to do a bit more than just a texture update in the next graphics improvement. What we can't say is "delete Hrothgar" and continuously make Hrothgar players feel like absolute garbage for playing a race you disagree with.
You want expressionless on a Hrothgar, try emoting. It's far worse :|
Square needs to address this. If furry artists can make super expressive models to the point they can become VTubers, the vaunted Square Enix can as well.
This response is fascinating to me. Just for a bit of context, if it matters, I love cats, in real life and in games. Big cats, small cats, exotic cats, kittens, and everything in between. I don't have a problem with "big cat races" I just think rhothgar are really, really bad version of a cat race. (Edit: I'm not saying this to be snarky, it is just my subjective opinion on their appearance and is not meant to be taken personally by anyone nor is it meant personally.) I also fit in to the group you mention that finds them very unexpressive. All of their facial expressions seem to boil down to smiling with their mouth hanging open...or frowning with their mouth hanging open...yeah, just very unexpressive.
Just in case people need to understand it a bit better.

Someone a couple of posts up hit the nail on the head I think. Rhothgar seem to hit the uncanny valley uncomfortably for some, and not for others. It's that simple, honestly.
You are trying to act like you are the only race that gets negative things said about them but all of them do. You’d get more sympathy if you tried to say otherwise. Things I hear all the time: “all miqo’te look the same” “Elezens have long necks and move weird” “Hyur run weird” “Lala are potatoes and should be punted and boiled” “viera female emotes are lifeless”.
I just don’t like hrothgar and would rather see another miqo’te male be put in since it seems G’raha might be getting sidelined. It’s not some personal attack on them. Others have said the same. It doesn’t mean the world is out to get you.
Did you actually try it? Because I could tell all of their facial emote apart really easily.
Their "evil smirk" face is so cartoonish it made the final battle against Zenos for me. I remember being disappointed how muted the facial expression looked in the MSQ on any other races.
Again, I have no issue against people who say Hrothgar isn't for them. Finding them uncanny is fine, personally I have a really hard time with female Miqo'te for this very reason. It's just like when we're talking about expressiveness or sameness, I have no idea where the sentiment even comes from.
I do not have a rhothgar on my account but I will create one tonight after work and family stuff, and report back, if you are really genuinely that curious, or if you think it will add something to the discussion. Maybe their body language is very expressive, I have no idea. My issue is mainly with the facial expressions that I have witnessed so far.
Would have liked to see a Highlander. But they did Arenvald pretty dirty so I'm not holding my breath. How in the hell in a setting where you can raise people from the dead, probably Cure their limbs back on, does a guy get left like that? I've seen BLMs get almost literally nuked repeatedly on a single boss fight and come back to full with a swiftcast raise. How in the hell in a setting where I have literally MULTIPLE magitek mounts does this guy get left in a WOODEN wheelchair? This guy deserved a Professor X Allagan hoverchair at LEAST - get Cid and Nero on this ASAP.
Just shaking my head.
- Almost all female Au Ra have the angry face with horns looking forward
- Almost all male Highlanders have Ilberd's face
- Almost all male Roegadyn are max height with the same 3 hairstyles
- Almost all male Miqo'te have Larryzaur's hairstyle
- Every single female Miqo'te looks the same but with different hair style/color
- Every single female Elezen looks exactly the same, period.
- Lalafell are practically indistinguishable by gender until/unless you hear their voice
But "they all look the same" is only a problem when it's about Hrothgar.... Ok...
That won't be so straightforward. Remember that the Garleans managed to make a fully-grown Hrothgar with a broken spine be able to "walk around" through magitek and all that. The experience eventually led to him being a Hypertuned. Now, I won't say that that's what will inherently happen when Cid and Nero get to Arenvald, but there are issues with them doing it with Magitek.
Also :^) technically you got Lyse (kind of, blame ARR) and Raubahn. And in Sidequests you have Hildibrand and Godbert, the latter of which even has relevance in the Stormblood MSQ. Gerolt also appears in every expansion for the relic weapons. All of them memorable characters. Highlanders aren't that under-represented.
Ever noticed that whenever Hrothgar, who have been silent for the past three years, say something about how the community has been treating them in that time, and point to the quality of the stuff they got THE ONE TIME from the devs, people instantly call us shit?
We're not the Vieras who spammed the hell out of the dev team. We haven't done jack shit. We didn't even ask for Ronsos, we were just given by the dev team out of THEIR own volition.
So why the constant hate on us? The hell have we ever done?
"Exist", like Ivtrix said?
Thanks. It's so good to know that we're hated for absolutely nothing.
I do hope so, the Source needs some prevalent VOICED hrothgars. It's such a weird feeling seeing them almost completely absent. I feel like Rostik might become more relevant, since I recall something about Thancred getting some focus after 6.0, and how he mentioned he wasn't able to meet up with Rostik during 6.1, so they'll probably come back to that eventually.
But the more pressing issue is that we need to retire prevalent characters with white hair! Enough I say!
It was kinda creepy to just see them voicelessly emoting in the background before we headed to Garlemald.
Except for grandpa!

Grandpa can stay.
Sorry guys but if your race doesn't have sex appeal that isn't automatically degenerate you can't join the Scion club.
Honey, you're talking to a stage 4 person. I really don't mind :P
But other people here do. Not everyone who plays Hrothgar is a furry, identifies as one nor wants to be labelled as such. And regardless of furry or not, people deserve respect as much as you do. Hence why I think we shouldn't cast a race aside just because it's weird. Lalafell are on the weird side as well, yet they're there in the Scions.
I thought the Dangerously Furry tier was supposed to be a Chester Cheetah image... >.>
