Yoshida mentioned in the past that chocobos would act like party members so they would fit into the slot of an 8 person party. Meanwhile the actual classes that use pets (Summoner, Beastmaster whatever else) the pets would not take up a party slot. This was flung out by Yoshida during one of the 2.0 interviews back when it was announced.

Smoother performance for some slightly blurrier textures that I hardly pay attention to anyway sounds like a great trade-off to me. Now, if he had said (or shown) that the character or clothing/armor textures would be getting a similar "downgrade" instead, I might agree with you.

Might...maybe...if I was really depressed and had nothing else going on in my life...

I hope that its good for even those things.. If things are as they are now, in 2.0, then you will already be able to walk up 90 degree cliffs, and fences and plants will be noclip, so jump would be 100% aesthetic at that point.

Sorry that was rude. Need sleep. Yes it did take an hour (and more or less the breakdown above is correct), but you have to realize our questions need to get translated to Japanese, then an answer, then laughter by those in the room who understand the answer, then a translation back to English. So each question takes a while actually.

I think not showing a trailer is a extremely smart move.

It's definitely a track for some type of train/cart. You can see it in the screenshot we posted near this in the write up on the site.

This was one texture in Thanalan on the ground that wasn't in any of the screenshots. This doesn't mean that other ground textures are finalized.

So it would seem that the client you seen showcased a perhaps more finalised version of the textures compared to what the press screen shots showed. Might be a little picky but perhaps you could tell us how they fall in comparison to current Thanalan textures?

They're totally bringing back the massive crystals in town from Crystal Chronicles. In 2.0, Dalamud will bring forth a miasma over Eorzea, and you'll need to have one of your party members carry around a crystal chalice so you can survive.

Incredibly picky =P

It wasn't necessarily the client that was more finalized from the screenshots shown. Think about it in terms of each area. They're still polishing the zones, some are better than others, and all are still affected by current state of the client.

The ground texture referenced in the write up was a texture that I don't think is currently in the game (type of stone block/pavement) so it's hard to compare. We thought it looked fine. It still all looked like Thanalan in regards to everything else though, the textures weren't drastically scaled down from what we could tell.

Well he did say he wanted to bring back Doomtrain, perhaps it'll be back indeed!

I know, but the Thanalan one was the worst anyway.

I didn't notice this before because I was too in awe of the nice screens of 2.0, but now that GE zoomed up the new UI icons up close and personal... I have to say I don't care for them. They look exactly like SWTOR. I think the icon style we have now is much more elegant.

They are going for a global standard though, rather than elegant.
Really some of the icons appear to be the same as the ones we have now, they are just in square boxes.

It doesn't really bother me much.

Yeah.... icons for DoW/DoM are exactly the same, just round. Not sure why this is a big issue

Traversing the environment is the only thing I'd like to see jump used for other than aesthetics (which I think is a dumb aesthetic but whatever).

Implementing jumping in PVP would just turn this into an action game.

The only way jumping excites me is that no longer will players be magnetized to the ground in the sense that if they walk over a cliff they're immediately moved down to the ground on the other side, it looks dumb.

Falling damage should be strict. Anything over 10 yalms high should be instant death.

Please relay that we would like the jump animation to be tasteful and not look out of place with the game's aesthetics. And please keep jumping away from combat, especially if there are no plans to introduce regional servers to combat the inevitable ping issues.

Yes, please don't make jump look awkward or forced, keep that same sort of "build-up/wind-down" fluidity that we have in our other movement animations (ie, how it takes a small amount of time to start running at full speed and a small amount of time to come to a complete stop after running).

Also please keep the height of jumps realistic. By all means, make them equal for all races, but I don't want to be able to jump to the adventurer's guild from the main street in Ul'dah for example.

i want jump as a gameplay feature. To evade obstacles, to suffer less damage from ground fire Aoe, to advance in the map, etc

I dont want jump in combat itself, only to cancel cast.

I think jump is a powerful tool to allow a lot of dynamic game-play in terms of boss battles and adventuring the landscapes. Climbing up dilapidated castle ruins and leaping from over small gaps would certainly add a lot of fun to the mix. Furthermore, this could assist in the creation of new achievements based around more daring adventuring.

As for battles, again, avoiding special attacks or even to traverse mixed terrain in a boss battle, perhaps phased events etc.

I would like to only be able to jump while out of combat.

Keep it useful, like FFX-2, and FFXIII.

I don't want jump too look out of place and look corny. If it is used it should be used decently, and possibly for traversing. I however don't think it should be used in combat at all.

basically get it past rocks mainly but putting to get past obstacles would be a fantastic idea

I can really only see it used in a combat role for the purpose of avoiding various special attacks (probably boss-only) or environmental hazards (probably dungeon-only).

I've been pretty apathetic about the whole jump issue, so I don't know why they're spending time on it other than "Yoshi-P wants it".

Like many others, my opinion is that if it has no purpose, I don't want it.

Keep it based around obstacles, but please make it serve a purpose. If it has no purpose there's no point in it. Leave it out of combat though. I would like the option to jump over a crevice or over a fence though.

I'm open to it being implemented in both as long as it's done tastefully and with a nice creative twist added to the game. Although that sort of advice applies to pretty much any aspect of the game so I'm not sure that would help.

I guess I'm just saying I don't mind either.

I would hate to see jumping over-used in combat.
It would look especially ridiculous in PvP.
Constant bouncing in PvP isn't appealing to me. It looks cowardly.
