Judging by the fabric it could be Ala Mhigan fashion. Looks much better than the previous ones imo.

Ah, male characters get something nice for a change and like clockwork female character players come to express their jealousy and offer itty bitty bikini bottoms of all things in exchange for a cool outfit, as if it's equality that male character players get to turn their character into a laughing stock.
As for giving female characters bikinis at all, maybe the devs know their audience who made 2B leggings one of the most popular female glam pieces. Let's not pretend these new panties will go unused.
Ok... WTH did this thread turn into.
Is it that hard to just stick to critiquing the gender-locking when those shorts and speedos in similar style would fit perfectly fine for the opposite genders.
Well, save for hair-pieces.
But yeah it's unfortunate that feminine outfits often need a slight design change not not look awkward on males, while the other way around the only change needed is generally just a smaller hip-area.
Still, gender locking is naught but frustrating.
Yes? Because there are people here who support gender-locking (and the hateful, regressive ideology that underpins it), and I'd like to think this thread highlights how fucking toxic the OF can be. There are legit people here arguing against the acceptance of queer people, that's fucking madness in a game as queer-coded as ffxiv.
The issue is not so much "getting another bikini" as "getting another split-gender piece where it's assumed that female characters should wear bikinis and male characters should wear shorts".
Also, while I do realise each design is unique in its details, there's a lot less room for variation in a bikini-sized amount of cloth versus full shorts.
I don't know what you mean by "making it a zero-sum game". I just want the option for my female character to wear those shorts. I'd settle for a skirt with the same length and print, even. Just not an expectation to wear the bikini.
Wasn't this post suppose to be about the Moonfire Faire's glamour prizes? (❁°͈▵°͈)
Aiden, while LGBTQ+ rights are very important, a post about pants on a video game's official forum is probably not the best place for it; it's a relatively small and inconsequential place. Not to mention, most of the people who are arguing with you are probably trolls trying to get a rise out of you. (Honestly, looking at the fact your forum account is from 2015 and you hadn't started posting til 2022 makes me somewhat suspicious of you and I'm really tired of trolls making jokes out of LGBTQ+ issues. =A=)
To those trying to argue with Aiden, I can't really tell if you lot are just trolls or old-fogies who don't know that yelling at your computer screen doesn't make you right or win an argument. Arguing on the internet gets you no where.

And on a separate note, Mirelle are you saying Japanese women don't wear pants? (◎ー◎; )
Literally would prefer the bikini not exist and both genders get the shorts over another hehehe ladies pants magically turn into panties garbage
Some outfits perhaps, but not all. The Expeditioner and Oasis shirts are welcome unlocks, and there can be good pieces besides the body piece, like the Thavnairian sleeves or the bunny ears.
I do agree that the dresses tend to be unflattering, but that's about body shape more than gender concepts. I wish they'd taken some more adaptive approaches for some of the outfits, like the Thavnairian bustier could have taken some alterations based on the male version of the dancer job gear.
(Though the same time, I do sense some irony in wishing for that while being annoyed at the "gender-adapted" summer wear, so I'm not sure that I'm allowed to complain in both directions at once.)
Hehe Mimilu - of course we wear pants, though amazingly there's still some companies that make women wear skirts and high heels as part of the office dress code. Some women even complained but the government decided heels were 'appropriate ' for women to wear. ^.^
I totally understand people that want something...
What I fail is the want-not.
Let life happens and people be happier.
There are so many crafts and places to know, rather than worry what people wear...
Great rewards!
Hope to wear them and enjoy for as much as it lasts.
Sorry for the sus account activity, as someone who's egg is quickly falling apart around them, I promise that I'm not here to troll. Everything I argue I argue honestly and in good faith. Been playing since 2.0 but just never really hung out on the OF till just recently. Needless to say I was pretty shocked by how much more hostile the OF was to LGBTQ+ topics then the reddit (which I had always thought was fine but not great.)
I know they're probably trolling, but I'm not trying to convince them. I'm talking to the lurkers just reading, the trans and queer players that feel alienated by how shite the OF is. Obviously I can't fix a problem of fucking terrible moderation. But I earnestly believe that each little bit of push back helps, every fight is worth fighting as long as you're willing (and not taking on an undue amount of mental stress).
All that being said, I do also just kinda enjoy getting stuck in with people. And the fact that some of these posters legit seem like 2010's era anti-feminist/anti-LGBTQ+ types is kinda just blowing my mind.
I just wish men got slutty little panties or yknow a fundoshi instead of completely covering our legs. Oh sorry, you can see...our ankles.
Someone on the design team must be just PETRIFIED of seeing manthigh.
is it wrong to say i wish we can have a normal conversation for 5 mins before its get derailed
It hommage of the OC episode. I love it.
Can we rage about the jumping puzzle too?
I do tend to get hostile with people who don't think I should exist. This is what I think so many here don't get. Yes, obviously it is just pants. But the IDEOLOGY behind thinking that their shouldn't be ways for trans players to express themselves in game is bigotry. It is transphobia and if they had their way, people like me wouldn't exist. If you don't push back on it wherever you see it, then it takes root and you end up with trans bathroom bills and "don't say gay" and *gestures vaguely at the world*. It. Always. Matters. Getting to pretend otherwise is a privilege born of ignorance.
I feel heinous is a tad extreme, nor do I feel I have to justify my stance even so, I prefer restrictions on items simply due to creative avenues they force players to go through. If it was not for the restrictions I would have found many of my favorite glam items. That said I would not lose sleep over it if they made it an option I just have my own preference that is all. If that is heinous so be it. I also do fall in the cap that has more traditional taste when it comes to m/f attire.
They really should have separated the pants into 2 different items...
I would have loved another speedo to add to my roe's collection, but he is once again given a pair of pants he will never wear
I'm someone who actually likes the look of the female gear, and look forward to having it, but i think the surf shorts should be made optional for both genders. Options are good.
Last time there was two levels of it, the second - which was a lot of corner jumping - was optional. The first is mostly just jumping along the straight path, and there was 2 "difficulties" of it. One with larger pieces to jump to(like the water of the Hingan Hot Spring), and one with smaller pieces(like individual size squares)
I fully agree that items should not morph based on gender, race, or faction beyond what's needed to make it fit the body shape. I've never argued against that or calls to unlock both appearances for all genders. (The shorts look like a texture swap on an existing model so should be a lot easier than one that requires new geometry).
There are other posters, including the one that I had originally quoted, that objected to "yet another bikini". Those people are the target of my "zero-sum" remark.
It's a beach set... what you would propose instead? To be honest, this shirt is quite distinct from the other beach open shirt we have... It's also confusing because you're complaining about the jewelry, which is the thing that actually adds more character to the item. If you want a plain open shirt, there are 2 options already.
You are free to exist, no one is here is saying that. Everyone has a preference, I like restrictions and given the choice I would prefer they stay. That said if they removed the restrictions and provided the option I would not lose sleep over it either. I get my view point is dated and with time will not be the norm but please do not think I wish for you to not exist due to my preference. I live in my own little bubble mostly cut off from the real world, our town has a pop of 3600 people, so forgive me for not being up to date on the on how the world is changing.
Am all for new glam options for both genders, not cuz of gender equality, but cuz I would simply have more glam pieces to play around with. My fav glam is the butler suit on a female character.
