Is anyone going to unsub, skip a store item or refuse to buy the base game or an expansion because scheduled maintenance was done this day? Probably not.
I am pretty sure this is a japanese videogame.
Here I was, thinking, "Geeze what am I going to do today for entertainment."
Then I stumble upon this thread, and just want to thank the OP for giving me a laugh.
Half of you are mean half of you are funny. Thanks for all the laughs :) I know it would never happen its just a wish. Wouldn't it be awesome if they didn't have maintenance on your days off? People saying go outside, its way too hot. Only 11 am and the heat index is already almost 100 (37.8c) and is probably gonna reach 105(40.6c) again by 3pm. To the people saying hang with family, my family plays this game, some are 1400 miles (2250 Kilometers) we were all gonna get on discord and play together today. Been a long time since we all had the day off.
I totally understand while they cant change it now. Wouldn't it be awesome if they checked the national holidays to every country that has a large player base and avoided maintenance on those holidays?
Since no one answered:
Does patch downtime/maintenance happen during golden week?
I think this could have been better planned. Maintenance on ANY country's holiday is not the best idea.
People need to get a life outside this game..
xD
Imagine a meeting if they take note of all holidays in the world:
"Oh, this day looks perfect for this implementation..."
"Well, boss, Yoshida-kun... this day is the Farmer Day's in (put any country name here) and since we will bring caos on some crops, it wouldn't be nice..."
"hmm... ok, then. What about this next day, then?"
"let's see... according to our notes, this will be the Day of the God (put any name of any God of any country here) which is the God of Justice and Hapiness. And since this patch is kinda sad, this wouldn't be nice for them..."
Would be very fun to be part of the crew :)
I really like the idea that the FF dev team knows it's our independence day but expects to be going outside and watching fireworks instead of playing a video game today lmao
Lol . Just in July, close to 30 countries celebrate their national day. It’s a Japanese game, the dev team is based in Japan, it’s their calendar.
It’s just a game and just one day. I can’t believe people can’t find anything else to do during one day... if you can’t go outdoors or meet with friends and family, read a book, watch movies, exercise, cook, play other games, play music, do some chores (you’ll have more time to play later), etc.
i'm just kidding :)
I'm sorry u.u
(I'm bored).
And, yes. You have a nice point. But, the problem is the schedule for workers in any type of worldwide company. It is based more on a profit plan than anything else. Some specific days of the year works more for seasonal events than anything else... It's the logic of profit, not the logic of respect for holidays anywhere in special.
I think even in their own holidays they do this. It's not a personal stuff against US people. It just logistics.
But, yeah, would be awesome if it was different.
Go out and grill some burgers. It's not the end of the world.
How come we didnt ask america to change when the 4th of july happens ?
/s
Well the good news is that we don't have to worry about the possibility of maintenance on July 4th, due to leap years, until 2033.
The bad news is that this forum makes American's look like entitled, self-centered individuals who expects the rest of the world to conform to our wishes and wants.
As an American, I agree with this. There's no reason for square to not stick to their schedule. Maintenance has always been on Mondays or Tuesdays, since Tuesday is the weekly reset.
Besides who knows what complications delaying would cause.
Just use the day to spend time with family or friends.
Well that was our original plan but RL threw a few curve balls at us which postponed our normal trip to see family and friends this weekend. Thanks to genetics I'm highly susceptible to melanoma so suggestions to "go outside" are given about as much consideration as drinking battery acid.
Trying to get Mass Effect Legendary Edition working on my rig. The game works... sorta but they took away the ability to correct their bad guesses about my hardware. I've never been a fan of Bioware's coding skills and this just cements how awful they are at it.
I forget if all worlds were under maintence when the NA data center stuff happened or not. Given that everything is down this time I'd like to think it was that way, but how troll would it be if that wasn't the case?
Lol imagine working somewhere where they let you have a holiday that isn't christmas off.
I work in IT, and when I worked for a Fortune 500 with international sites, we absolutely took local holidays into account when planning maintenance. It's a common practice.
That Square Enix doesn't is unusual. Not like the US isn't a major market.
in terms of the market, the SE won't miss anything as the new patch will bring subscriptions back. So the faster they get things done, the better for them.
About the game time, if they chose any other day, it would be the same: nobody plays, since it's world wide for 24 hours. So, the day chosen doesn't matter much.
They always apologize for "any inconvenience this may cause" in all maintenance messages in advance. So, we must wait for their work.
About holidays, well, almost every day is a holiday somewhere in the world. And they try to exploit some world holidays (and Japanese holidays) to profit from seasonal events, instead of just not doing their work to respect the holiday. A day not working on their schedule is a day not profiting or building their profits. Making an MMO is always being at work and since they schedule major maintenance like this to happen on Mondays, this is just another regular work day for them. Their concern is to make things work nice and quickly as possible but not to satisfy a specific part of the player base's holiday. This is an industry, a specific one.
to add to that, it's also ignoring that the 4th of july is generally more of a "party" holiday. for every 1 person that totally wants to stay home playing videogames there are probably 2 who's day planning is listed as "blowing stuff up and partying with friends"
Asking on the English forums, just hours before a 24-hour maintenance is scheduled, to change their plans and not update the game, just to suit you. Amazing.
Regardless if America is a Big Market, that doesn't mean anything really. Maintenance gets done when it needs to get done.
Its 1 day; 24hrs. Sure it sucks its on a Holiday...but honestly people should go out and celebrate their Holidays instead of being cooped up playing games.
If you really want to play games...well...sorry there are other games you can play. What, are you gonna unsubscribe because the company has to update their game? Is it really such a big loss that 1 day; that happens to be a holiday, the game is offline so it can be updated?
The American Playerbase will be fine. SE isnt gonna lose money over this or its playerbase over this.
i am once again asking people to remember that the NA data centres also serve canada, the entirety of south america and many oceania players who don't want to ditch their buddies/FCs/statics and you need to keep that in mind before trotting out generic statistics about how many players are on them.
