You might have to redownload it, original old launcher may be unable to update itself without crashing.

I downloaded the launcher and replaced my current version but still get an error when I launch it: "Initialization failure - Crossover is unable to initialize a critical component".
Not sure what version the launcher is at as I can't find any version info when poking around in the Contents of the launcher package.
I'll stick with the XIV launcher for now.
This is so bad, I just purchased my Mac licence and now its useless...
yes you can. https://www.xivmac.com/
Yea. I don't want to get banned by SE...
Also, the third-party program has viruses or sth so I am not gonna use it definitely.
I have tried these kinds of programs for other software and games before. Those viruses may not really be extremely harmful to ur Mac, but I am sure they will somehow slow down ur Mac...
I seriously doubt there are any SE Devs who actually use a Mac for FFXIV - if there were then this major issue would have been resolved by now.
IMO all the Mac "support" has been outsourced to a company that does a package update now and then at the bare minimum in order to fulfil contract obligations without pro-actively saying "hey Apple are removing this major component in their next update so we need to do this additional client update"
PS - XIV for Mac runs just fine and if SE wishes to ban be for using a wrapper which permits me to use the game I bought and pay a subscription for because they have failed to do so - bring it on
SE needs to give a contract to the XIV on Mac team and ditch the woeful lot they currently have a contract with.
Hello.
Here is another solution that does not use third party program :
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...without_using/
I have not tried it yet.
It is unbelievable that a so major issue is not solved in the following days ...
A while back I accidentally upgraded the OS on my imac and I could no longer launch the game. Then I found the workaround with xiv on mac and was able to play.
I've been playing on my imac for many years, and was due for an upgrade. I ordered a macstudio back in march and today it finally arrived. I installed xiv on mac and was stoked to play on my new upgrade - but as soon as the game window starts, my macstudio completely crashes and has to reboot. I've tried everything I can find to run the game, but it won't work.
That would be my thread.
There’s a caveat: you need an install which was working before the upgrade to 12.3.
It fails on new installs with a null pointer access and I haven’t found a workaround to get the updater to run independently. (It says to run via the launcher, which is what crashes)
The only sure fire way to fix is using a third party launcher, which is BONKERS.
Has there been any acknowledgement that SE is working with Apple at all to fix any of the issues for mac users? I know that the game has always been janky running on a mac anyway, but at least it did run.
I found this funny

So... let me get this right. We were officially told to upgrade to the latest OS when that 100% breaks the games launcher?
I'm pretty much done with this game for multiple reasons, so at this point I keep thinking there's few ways left to disappoint me.. but there it is! Another one! I'd love to still be so trusting to take that as meaning '6.15 fixes the Mac launcher issue', but, yeah... I ran out of copium a while ago now
Edited to add:
Found the link Thread: To Continue Running the Game on Windows® 7 and Mac 32-bit Applications (May 17)
Edited again to add:
So that post means the only supported Macs are now iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014 to 2020, the final Intel iMac), running Big Sur11.1 to11.6.6 (the final update)
What? That's ok guys! They're still supporting what they sell! It's all good, just use the small selection of old (but supported!!!) hardware and an outdated OS and NEVER, EVER expect more! They're a small indy company after all, it's unfair to expect clear communicate or support for what they're selling, amirite?!
It would be great if we mac users could get an update from the devs that this is something that they are aware of and working on fixing.
Is there anything we could do legally speaking? Insisting in a refund or forcing them to make an official statement at least?
Do you guys know if the media was catching this up? I could not find this issue as an article in any online magazines, but only as complaints wrapped up in threads. I doubt that there are only 20 people in total who play the Mac version.
Maybe start being louder on social media? Or contacting streamers to see if any would be interested in a story?
I really don't normally like doing things like that, but at this point what other choices do we have? We've been patient, submitted tickets and written here and nothing has worked. Feels like louder voices are needed at this point.
They've put up an update regarding this.

I am so pleased they did an update notice with a bit of hope and a timeline.
The previous "we really don't know" notice was almost old enough to be getting ready for Kindergarten.
So, thank you SE, it's good to see you are finally making progress.
Got to laugh that they announce they will start supporting macOS Monterey "soon" when the next version is going to be announced by Apple in a few hours and released in a few months!
I noticed there wasn't any mention of support of M1 with Rosetta 2. M2 is nearly out now. I mean, assuming it fixes Python it should still work with Apple Silicon like it did pre 12.3, but I think I'm going to be sticking with XIVonMac anyway that has optimisations for M1.
I downloaded the new Mac release today and tried it out - it downloaded a lot of stuff, then I logged in and it went to the initial blank screen and stayed there. Had to force quit to get out. Tried a restart and still same problem.
I'll stick with the XIV Launcher.
I've just upgraded to a Mac Studio and the new SE Mac release doesn't work for me.
I'm now having problems with XIV on Mac, it starts up OK then goes to the "Loading" screen and sits there forever - have to force-quit to exit.
Problem sorted! I ran the "Repair" function inside XIV on Mac and that has resolved the "Loading" problem, the game is running fine now.
I just downloaded, installed, & set up XIV on Mac, and it won't launch the game. Says "Internal Dalamud Error." I don't use Dalamud, so WTF is going on?
I've just tried XIV on Mac, after installing the latest release (4.2.3) and patches, and it runs fine for me (Mac Studio, M1 Max).
If you post details of your system it may help resolve the problem.
