Compared to other MMO's and their content droughts? FFXIV seems to be the more consistent with its patch releases that justify a sub (which is needed to keep an online game going without resorting to numerous amounts of micro-transactions and pay 2 win models). So its not laughable for people to sub and unsub when they know content will be coming anyway. Also maybe I'm one of the few that does this but...I dont play this game every day. In fact I go a week or 2 without playing to do something else to avoid burnout, but I still keep my sub going for the off chance I want to play the game. I figure this is how others usually play MMOs without making it their 2nd job.Quote:

If you only pay a sub for a house, then maybe you don't like the game, then why would you stay subbed? For a house you could just rebuy later? What you seem to not understand is to add anything to this game, you have to subtract what you COULD add. BUT
I wish they would decouple really needed class changes from these big content patches. I really doubt there's no graphic changes for most of these changes, just some minorish engine changes that can't be done via just potency changes (Blood Weapon being changed to charges versus a timer).
Or if there was a way to piece meal it a bit more instead of these mega patches, but I guess since some of the content is tied to others (like how All Hallow's End was locked into Endwalker) that's not possible. -

Just here to answer your question.
I play for a little bit, then take some breaks. Go on a walk-it's finally stopped raining so it's been nice to see the sun out and hear the birds. Go to the local market, look for some fresh fruits which is a rare success because I swear everyone runs up and snatches them all as soon as the doors open. Clean up around the house a little more. Do some mopping, vacuuming, counter cleaning..switch all the bedding because spring is almost here! Scrubbed the bathroom down nice and good just yesterday. Also tried out an outdoors flea remover so my cats can sit in the back patio without any worries about an hour ago. Will probably going to wash my car windshield now. Maybe tomorrow I'll log into XIV again! Play for a little bit, then go wash my whole car. Trim the lawn, go for a run. This is all because I play likely a normal healthy amount. The whole day doesnt have to be absorbed by XIV. There are many many things to do with ones time. I'm actually greatful that XIV is this easy going. I've played MMO's for years and usually they try to leech every hour of my time they can. But not this one! This one lets me play it and then go tend to my real life just fine. I'm never behind, I'm never rushing. I'm never stressing about how 'oh i should be farming this dungeon running it 300 times for this one thing or else I cant do xyz' I can just do a little bit, and then go make my real life just as pretty as my game life is. So this is how I am fine with however long it takes for new patches. It gives a healthy downtime. I always come into a new patch fresh faced and ready to sit down for hours and hours. and when I'm done, I get to go back to a more responsible balance without fear of that costing me anything. If the money feels like it's being wasted, I simply unsub until it's time to resub again! Because unsubbing doesnt put me behind either! Hope this helps. -

Demolition, purchase timers, lotteries - those all mitigate flaws in supply design. They don't create a better experience. I'm still in a ward subdivision that has 29 other owners and no matter how often I'm going to a marketboard or the vendors to buy something, it's extremely rare that I run into another player. I can sit in my yard crafting for hours (which I did while working on Expert achievements last expansion) and never see another player passing by.
Where is the community when there's no one around? -

The thing is there is actually a lot of stuff to do, it's always the matter of if the content is something you want to do or not. I do my mentor roulettes every day, my future hubby probably won't do them. I suppose for people that have been around since 2.0 they'll likely have done everything there is to do or at least all the things they actually care about, and at that point if you got nothing that you wanna do, then unsubbing might be the option until there's a new content patch. Personally I've been playing for 2 years so I've still got a lot of things to do that I actually want to do or will try to do if I feel like it.

I'm speaking as a casual players who don't touch harder contents. I don't raid Extreme/Savage/Ultimate or doing things like Necromancer, so I have much less contents to do compared raiders.
I still do some daily roulette to cap tomes, get weekly MGP until it hits cap (half-way now), and do some normal-raid weeklies to gear up some roles I play often. I mix something minor into my playtime, like leveling Trust, playing TT cards, doing EW FATEs... I just don't do them on one-go, but do like one Trust run/day, or 5 FATEs/day. Whatever pace I feel comfortable with.
I plan to rerun the story in English voice (I played Japanese voice first) with an alt when 6.1 with Trust 2.0 drops, but I will need to see if Tonberry re-open character creation or not. And no, please don't talk about New Game+ if you feel an urge. It doesn't reset minor side quests and doesn't give me a feeling of growth through stories, level up and gear up. Period.
If anything, I appreciate the lax that FF14 offers me. I can play games I like, and writes small stories to share with my friends. You would likely appreciate the same if you used to play a Korean MMORPG where you will want to log in 3 hours/day for daily bonuses, doing quests on 5+ characters to funnel main, dealing with gear-worship toxic community that kicks you if your gear doesn't meet their standard, and you never get a break cause every break you take slow down your gear progression to become raid-ready when contents are still relevant (unless you're fine coming into a raid 2 years later where bosses are delete in one minutes)... No, I don't talk about Lost Ark. It was Blade and Soul I played. -

As a WoW refugee who came in last year and finally caught up to a current content expansion, i'm leveling all jobs to 90, collecting mounts and glamour, doing all side quests in game, collecting all BLU Spells, finishing all the triad card quests to collect all the cards, maxing out the reputation for all the beast tribes, making my apartment the best it can be and thats just what i can think of as i haven't done a single deep dungeon outside palace of the dead floor 40. I haven't done any end content outside the MSQ and you know what? Sometimes I feel like playing Warhammer 2/3 or a different game thus that delays me finishing my goals in FF14. Like right now i'm crafting 194 collectibles for white scripts so i can get all the lvl 60 crafting tier gear and boy this is taking awhile. If I got literally everything done or at least everything i wanted to finish I'd unsub for a patch or two and pick up a different MMORPG or game to fill the time. So yes i'm ok with 4 months cause it surely beat what i get from World of Warcraft when i was there.

I just wish they get their time sink stuff out earlier, Eureka as much as you hate it was dished out in 4.25 in ShB ... Bozja was 5.35. Its strange to me why the relic grind gets moved back so far.
Anima weapon was 3.15 and Relic 2.0 (i believe). give us stretched out quests instead of pushing them all onto of each other. When the 24man raid coins are giving you the upgrade item for the weapons 5.15(?) it should give the quest to get the relic weapon the same level as the raid tier, at this point the raiders are done with the tier anyway. But looking at the trend we will now get the Relic quest at 6.4 with 2 stages.
The ShB weapon was good for a SINGLE raid tier and even then the ilv did not line up and it was overshadowed till the final step. Relic grind and the additional Maps like Eureka and Bozja or Deep Dungeon (to an extend) are huge time sinks, they get out way to late and then cut them short however.
Bozja defiantly has a cut 3rd zone the entire main plot is resolved in field notes ... show, dont tell. -

Sure they need time to breathe, but they are still paid for their work and more people can be hired to keep things going on.
Maybe 2 weeks it’s not a big deal in general, but still I see them talking about releasing the very same contents, or less of it, slower while we continue to have to pay a subscription.
No, I don't think that "letting us unsubscribe" is equal to respecting our time. Give me fine contents on a decent schedule instead, and let me decide if am willing to pay the subscription or drop it to play something else instead.
I also play to other MMO and online games and FFXIV it’s the only one requiring me to pay a monthly subscription and, sadly, it is one the games I play that receive less frequent and less engaging updates.
Do we really wanna talk about the contents that they are going to delivering to us, now at new and slower rate?
Dungeons over the time have become all the same to the point I can’t distinguish them. They are fancy corridors to run forward to meet 3-4 packs of monsters followed by a boss, then repeat till the end.
Unpopular opinion: I much preferred 2.0 dungeons. They had exploration, interactions, puzzles and bosses that require other than dps and dodging aoes.
The same can be said regarding raids. I can’t even tell the difference between raids and trials anymore. It’s all fighting a boss in an arena, just dodging fancy and fancier aoes.
What about the 24man Alliance raids? They are almost pointless nowadays. The mechanics that require us to split in 3 parties (or actually doing something other than killing monsters) are so rare and often meaningless. Every time I run Rabanastre sewer section i think: was all time and effort spent for making this magnificent area just for us to slip down in 3 parties without having to do anything, not even a single click? Where is the gameplay?
Now they are giving us trusts for old dungeons, a nice add, but they are doing this just to have a new selling point to attract new customers. That content is not for us already paying warriors of light/darkness.
Of course they are also giving us new side quests, pvp, relic weapons, beast tribes, trials, ultimate and all of these will be just a small variation of the same old contents that we already had before. Maybe just criterion dungeons will be something new, I hope.
In the last 2 years they made a lot of money with FF14 they could have used that money for turning back to a 3 months patch schedule, like it was during a realm reborn.
Instead they are planning a much needed graphical update, that is coming late for sure (I am looking to you, low resolution textures). And this update seems tailored to be not really substantial, it will be the more convenient for them to make.
Meanwhile, they are slowly delivering us copycats contents because why not?
The community is so kind, forgiving and most of all willing to pay for toned down content delivered in a 4 month patch delivery schedule… -

Perhaps I've been playing MMOs longer than the naysayers here? There were no free-to-play MMOs back when I started shared world gaming in the mid-80s, nor in the 90s, nor in the 20-oughts. (Well, there might have been a few in the 20-oughts, but I don't remember any of their names). You either enjoyed the game for what it was, or you moved on.
There is now an entire sub-genre of MMOs that don't require a subscription. And I find a lot of people willingly play those games. I try those out now and then, and generally don't stick with them because almost all of them have some part of their PvE environment tied up in PvP. (All too well do I remember that level 70 Horde player who visited Darkshore daily back in 2008, decimating every NPC ... it was not the highlight of my day.)
Their story lines are brand new. Their combat system is most often action-based, and the majority of them started their life on the Western Pacific Rim. No subscription required, but also no 'glamour' and very little 'RP'. Linear story line, linear maps, gear progression not necessarily tied to group content. Plenty of 'minimal' rewards simply for logging in each day.
