Since I'm mostly just reading in this thread-- I'll explain (so long as it's actually not sarcasm-- as it's hard to tell in a written form).
Essences are essentially items or actions (like additional spells/skills) that help increase DPS gain, buff HP, buff healing potency etc) while you're currently in (what's called "save the queen") zones. This is all of Bozjan Southern Front, as well as Zadnor (the newest patch BSF after 5.5 this past couple weeks). They're normally one time use while in the zone, but when you leave the zone itself (exit from the "duty" basically), it removes the buff until you use another item to put that essence back on (assuming you still have any left for that zone). There's multiple ways to go about getting them (such as killing specific monsters or bosses in the zones themselves), or buying them from the marketboard, getting lucky with RNG, and turning them in for lost actions/items/skills/spells to use in that zone via an npc (who stands next to the Lost essence box) to equip them.
Bozjan southern front (is and somewhat isn't) MSQ related. To access anything in BSF (bozjan southern front), you have to have completed the MSQ (up to a certain chapter), and finished all the Ivalice raids (stormblood raid series). This is the place where the current Shadowbringers relic starts.
If you're not one for relics on this patch (or glamour/additional armors to add to your collection), then you don't have to worry about everything in this thread lol
Essense went from 2000g a pop on my datacenter to... 20k a pop... D: I didn't pay attention yesterday and spent 2mil gil on essence. D:
Nay, not sarcasm. I just came back to the game like two weeks ago and haven't gotten to endgame yet.
I know Bozja and what not is supposed to be part of the relic grind but had no idea what this essence and actions stuff is.
I never so much as unlocked the Ivalice raids. They weren't put out in the story on the way up.
Good to know it's not mandatory. While I'm bored af waiting for wow's next patch(raider here), I really just don't have time for two endgame grinds.
All of FFXIV's 24man raids are not part of the story. They're mostly just extra stuff for additional gear upgrades, as well as dropping a token at the end of each raid to allow you to upgrade your tome gear (during that patch). But generally not part of the story at all. Neither do the 8 man raids. Though (some) require you to complete X-Raid to be able to access the MSQ in ShB post 5.2 (or 5.3?), but otherwise-- mostly just side story/quest stuff and extra gear options to play around with (or glamour for fun)
yeah, that's the only one. Otherwise, all the other raids in all the other series weren't required at any point. But my guess is (depending on how the devs took it), this might be a new requirement moving forward for future MSQ patches in 6.0 and onward. Complete crystal tower series -> access to MSQ in Shb. Clear Skypirates series (HW 24man raids) -> EW msq requirements, etc.
I'm level 14 in Bozja at the moment. In all that time I've gotten exactly 4 skirmisher essences, which seem to be the only ones that are a DPS increase for DPS classes.
You get fragments for doing the content, not essences. Fragments are random turn ins that mostly give you garbage, with a shot at getting something useful. Farming them is for people who want to go all in on Bozja, not for people who want to get their relic and get the hell out.
So, if I farm essences that means EVERYONE will use them and I'll save half an hour?
No, I'll farm them and it won't change a thing about what everyone else is doing, so it'll just be a waste of my time. People don't like Bozja, they just want their relic, so this idea where everyone's farming to optimize their performance in it is just delusional.
Nothing will change, though. This mindset exists because Bozja isn't fun; it's terrible content that they get people to play only by gating the relic behind it. Me wasting more time in there isn't going to fix that.
If Bozja were fun and engaging, with great rewards I'd be in there all day and have 100's of everything. Instead it's a tedious chore that has only one thing that most people want, and that's the relic. A bunch of disinterested and non-committed people doing the bare minimum is the best Bozja can ever hope for, and it only even has that because of the relic. If not for the relic the place would just be dead, and it probably should be.
That's not demanding 150%. That's not even demanding 100%.
That's demanding 60% at best, and you delivering half of it by not doing the bare minimum of prep.
Also people who don't like the content should not be doing the content. Period. "You just want the relic" isn't a pass to drag other people down with intentionally bad setup.
Rewards exist to give players who like doing the content to have a prize in the end.
You won't see me complaining about ocean fishing grind because I don't like the feature and don't actively pursue it. I'm also not going to be doing savage content I'm unprepared for and complain people don't like how I play.
I know I'm not entitled to every reward in this game. Wish the rest of the playerbase did.
If you actually like Bozja then this probably isn't a smart position to take. The only reason that pile of crap is still breathing is that most people really look forward to the relic, and will endure almost anything to get it.
The extra preparation isn't necessary to clear the content; it's a luxury. No one's going to spend more time in Bozja than they have to for something that isn't necessary. I'll queue up, play my class to the best of my ability and do mechanics, but I won't be spending even a second longer in Bozja than what's required of me. Your "demands" don't matter. Honestly, you should be thankful that the relic hunters are keeping the place alive for you, even if they're not optimizing.
This is just contradictory - you wont use essences (that don't give you a 20% boost, but a 60% boost at minimum if you use the correct ones) to make the run go even a tiny bit faster, because you dont want to take longer than necessary... but by not using essences, youre MAKING the run take longer than necessary. Yes, you, personally. Your input directly helps to speed things along - if 23 others dont use essences that means that your 1/24th input will speed things along. and if 23 others USE essences, then your 1/24th input will slow things down.
Can't wait for next thread about a toxic casual complaining about people asking them to use food.
You don't need the big boy essences. Basic one will do.
I have a small stack of 50 basic Lifesteal potions and since it works with Lost Assassination, it's far enough to do the job for Castrum, Dalriada or even DR.
You can also sell the one you don't use and buy the one you actually need.
Just adopt the mentality that others does a bare minimum preparations and you should at least do the same, not less. Don't be the handicap, become a strong element of the team they can rely on.
ITT: People arguing "why should I put the shopping cart away, someone else will do it for me."
Like man, you don't even gotta farm the stuff is cheap as heck on the market board just buy a stack of an essence and you'll be good.
Maybe Yoshi P is right to be dumbing the game down and making it more solo friendly. If people cba to buy a thing off a market board to make something substantially better for a community, why would we expect them to learn and understand combos, aoe situations, healing and mitigation strategies, and mechanical awareness?
Yoshi-P is right in the sense it makes $$$ to appeal to those people.
He and his team are wrong in the sense they are the ones who put us in this situation. XIV doesn't pushes players into learning to do the basic. It pats them in the head instead. And the more they "dumb" it down, the more the "casual toxicitiy" will spread.
I swear ever since the Alexander incident they didn't just take a step back with punishing players. They jumped a 100 miles back and decided to never step forward.
I honestly don't mind DR, it's the Bozja overworld that's terrible and I will not spend any extra time in. DR taking a bit longer doesn't bother me too much.
Either way, you're wrong. Farming enough essences could take hours, whereas me, as a single player, using essences won't have a significant impact on DR's duration at all; especially as a DPS class. It's faster for ME to not bother with essences if I don't already have them; that's just reality.
I can count on one hand the number of DR runs where more than a couple were using essences (2 full relics plus a handful of extra runs). As someone who always uses them, it is ultimately meaningless that I do so as my contribution is so low it does not effect the clear time in a meaningful way.
Agreed completely. This effort to avoid toxicity by dumbing everything down and cushioning everything is leading to a toxic environment all on its own. Don't criticize, players might leave; I'm sure ForteNightshade still has that quote of Yoshi P saying it's his hope more skilled players will happily carry less skilled players somewhere.
Just stay in duty finder DR where no one really cares who uses essences and what not and do 50 minute runs for all we care. Leave our speedrun party finder DR alone.
aaaaah bare minimum adventurer
Actually it has changed what everyone else is doing. Speed run PF groups with dps essences have become a thing. Which means players with your mindset are discouraging the few who were carrying you from grouping with you anymore.
Players with your mindset only shoot themselves in the foot.
So, a few DPS essence PF groups pop up and you think that's actually a good reason for me to waste potential hours farming fragments? There's A LOT of people doing Bozja right now; unless you're seeing 100's of these PF groups at any given time, people aren't doing it in significant enough numbers to make any difference.
Players with my mindset are ONLY sparing themselves time and inconvenience. It's called reading the situation and being pragmatic. Me farming essences isn't going to make a real difference in any of MY 15 runs.
If you want to farm essences to contribute to some kind of "greater good" for this content then god bless, but I don't care enough about this content to dedicate hours of my time to a fruitless gesture.
Sounds good.
Be careful your lack of patience and ADHD is showing. MMO's who does speedruns in MMO's? What do you get out of speedrunning it's not like you are getting paid nor getting anything out of it correct? Isn't the game supposed to be fun not treated as a job these days?
It's people that want others to use essences every waking minute are the ones who belittle and berate other players that are the toxic ones. I even have screenshots of conversations in party chat just because their ADHD has to have them finish by a certain time. If these players are the ones who only care about stats then why not play WoW or some other game where that is only thing cared about. I remember a video where a youtuber criticized about certain things about FF14 and it's community only for them to quit the game because they didn't like what he had to say. This is one of those conversations. As soon as you don't like how other's play, meet the standards or talk about the content that isn't 100% great you attack them and make excuses on why everyone should play that way. Not everyone will play that way but it doesn't give the right to mock them for not doing what you and some others do.
I never ask for carries and I make sure to do every mechanic in DR as good as possible. Yet I and other's get attacked because we don't use certain things. Just because it adds a little more time like whoopie do it took a little time. You in a hurry or something?
I always find it highly entertaining to watch when these self proclaimed "paragons of virtue" with their holier-than-thou attitude berate you for "being toxic" (which seems to nowadays just mean actually putting some effort into what you're doing) just to then turn around and display the exact behaviour they complain about. And people still claim that toxic casualism doesn't exist, lol.
I've done DR like...thrice. I was one of those people who didn't use essences at all for two runs. Then, I decided to ask some healers IN DR about which essence(s) and actions I could use on a budget. They gave a list of what I could use the next time I came. So, my third run of DR, I brought some essences and actions with me. Guess what? My performance skyrocketed from dying constantly to actually contributing above the bare minimum. If someone like me who has "barely any time" to farm a few mobs for 20 minutes, then SO CAN YOU. Bringing some sort of essence or actions will help your party and the raid so, so much. If you ASK NICELY about what kind of stuff you can use, people will help you. Stop making up excuses; You just don't want to help yourself and everyone else around you. It makes the run so much easier for yourself and the raid, even if you bring SOMETHING basic. It doesn't have to be the super extreme or rare kind either.
Some people only have a set of time to farm DR in their own lives. Are you saying these people's time is irrelevant, because you don't want to do the bare minimum? It may be "in a hurry" for you, but a lot of players only have a certain amount of time to play a day, or days in between. Some have full-time jobs like you, and still bring the bare minimum to contribute.
So, where do you stand?
I don't think they have screenshots of other people calling someone mentally ill. It looks a lot like they're the one calling people mentally ill just for wanting to go fast in a duty.
