My name is a combination of letters from my wife, daughter and son's names. The last part is just something that goes well with it, since I'm mainly a tank and that is what we do.

Oh, I like that! I did something similar with my alt! (didn't mention him in my previous post, maybe should have, heh)
I have an alt named Archeric Boncheval. I love how it ended up sounding like a very nice male Elezen name in its own right, but I was just loving hard on the HW story at the time and simply played around with multiple combinations of segments of my favorite NPCs' names until I found one I liked the sound of ("Archeric" = "ARtoirel + HaurCHEfant + AymeRIC").
And I had read that Elezen favor French-sounding names. I love horses, so just kept plugging different combinations of "horse" + [random adjective] into Translate until I found one I liked both the look and sound of. "Bon cheval" literally just translates to "good [male] horse" in French, but I love the way it looks and sounds as a name!
Eep, sorry to blather on about me, this was supposed to be about you *sheepish grin*. Just got so excited to see someone who fashioned a name in such a similar manner as me! :)
it's kinda dumb but why not:
I liked the idea of "night" and, for a name, "Nyx" immediately came to mind back when I made a character in... middle school? Who I still use sometimes since, frankly, I like her and she was sort of what the younger me aspired to be more like (more bold/assertive/confident etc...). At the same time I had made her a twin to another character I named "Vesper" for kind of the evening star/evening prayer aspect to it and Vesper sort of embodied a mix of stuff I didn't particularly like so much about myself (anxiety/stutter I used to have/etc...)
But a lot of people, back when I actually did write and RP and stuff, found Vesper /very/ endearing which ironically fueled some more confidence in myself -- at least insofar as starting to be able to find more kind things/positivity in the things I was insecure about. I ain't perfect now, but y'know, babysteps start somewhere.
That said Nyx, as that old character, sorta just embodied to me a desire to remember why I made her in the first place, and to continue working at my own issues to grow into the person I want to ultimately be. Since these two characters were demons originally and I was very excited about au'ra for the horns/scales/tails/limbal rings, I ended up naming my au'ra after that specific character. So it's a little bit of a personal message intermixed with just "au'ra kinda look demonic and that's fitting."
"Netherflame" was literally just trying to work out something like "a fire that burns cold", but also kinda worked with voidal thematics somewhat back when. And was also just kinda "what would Nyx, if given the agency, choose for her last name" and she is... edgy isn't quite the word, but like, she's a person who would pick something edgy. (I guess like, edgy/tough/spiky and rough on the outside, with a softer more pastel inside if that makes sense)
Basically a mix of a personal message + I'm jus a chick that likes metal/black armor/demons/big swords and red a lot.
it's better than my ESO character whose name is just Brutalika
Mine? Back in the mid-2000s I played a game called Runescape, a game played by mostly teenagers. So, lots of immature sounding names like "I pwn j00 noob", "I pwn ur mom", "Icecoldkilla", etc. I came up with Joe Schmoe out of my desire to not follow the herd, as well as not being mistaken for a 12-year old.
I like space
There's a short story behind my character's name. I used the random name generator and Gacho Lacho popped up.
The "acho" part stuck with me but the name set off my alarm bells. It felt off.
After a quick Google search, I found Gacho Lacho meant an extremely bad lover. LOL
Thank you Spidey Sense!
A couple of quick changes later, I came up with Kacho Nacho. It sounded friendly and casual, just what I wanted for my little guy.
I'm seeing a lot of new / returning faces around the forums.
So, uh... bumpity bump. If anyone has a story or a joke behind their name, or just wants to share their thought process, I'd love to read about it : )
GW2 back when everyone had to to be direct damage (berserker) greatsword warriors. So i made a charr (roman first name) with bloodletter being related to a different warrior build that did damage over time instead.
A specific section of Skyrim mods. You can just google my character name. As for my forum one it's a variation of many old names I used to use, Nellentha, Nethena, Netheria, etc.
I hit random on the WoW name generator back in vanilla and it showed up
Calliope because my first char was a bard and I thought about Apollo’s muses.
Dragonsong because this song is very important for my special someone and I (we met on the game as I was starting during HW). It was Goldstring first because of the bard job but I forgot that “string” hasn’t the same meaning in French (but FC mates surely did not XD) so I changed for Dragonsong a couple months after.
Tristen is a variation of the Arthurian Knight Tristan (I was amused to see the latter used for an NPC in the game). Iskallion is completely made up. I've decided it's probably a reference to scallion onions.
I have two stories! My forum name is one I've used forever, and came from a random D&D name generator the first time I played D&D. I altered it slightly (I forget the original, something like Talerean), and have stuck with it ever since. And indeed that was my first character name in FFXIV.
At some point early in 1.0 I switched servers along with some friends, and at that point I decided to change to a female character. Some years earlier, in college, I invented a whole family very loosely based on myself and my siblings for use as NPCs in another D&D campaign. Since FFXIV required a last name, and they had one, I thought that was a good source of names. And so I named my character Amileigh Galashin. However, the reason we had switched servers was to play with a friend of a friend, and his character's name was Amelie something or other. I didn't want to have such a similar name, so I switched to the other female character in the group, Ryelle, who was the least defined of the four. It wasn't a name I'd ever used for anything, but it stuck and I've been using it in FFXIV and any other game where I have a female avatar since 1.0 (with a brief switch during Heavensward because I wanted to try Au Ra).
Forum name - I started as a Viera but didn't liked that you can't wear hats. D:
Character name - I changed it when I switched races and well... have you ever played Age of Empires?
I bought from a guy in an alley.

The Rhana Dandra or "End of All Days" in the Aeldari Lexicon, is the legendary final battle of the Aeldari species against Chaos that will end with the destruction of both, as prophesied in Aeldari mythology.
I like how similar "the End of All Days" and "The Final Days [of Amaurot]" are to each other. It's like a reference within a reference. ^_^
First name is carried over from my FFXI days. Added "Rose" as a last name cause it sounded good together.
My name I just picked through the randomizer back when I was a Keepr of the Moon female Miqo'te. Recently, I finally got around to changing it so I wouldn't hog up that ne anymore since I'm not a Miqo'te anymore. Plus, it felt a little weird playing through the story and having characters call me by a Miqo'te name when I wasn't one anymore.
I'm trying to get used this name, as it's just basically my old name, but changed so it's not an official Miqo'te name anymore. But I feel I'll be changing it slightly hear and there until I feel satisfied with it and I really don't as I love to horde my money. xD
When I left my old server I thought I would maybe RP as a Hingan or something so I thought up Japanese names.
Jubei, from Yagyu Jubei. I specifically had Onimusha 2 in mind when I chose it.
Murata was just a surname I ended up landing on. I like the way it sounds. I guess now it's kind of going to become a reference, since the pyro archon in Genshin Impact is called Murata.
I've been using this name since the start of Stormblood so I'm thinking I'll change it when I go male Viera. I don't know if my current name would really fit with a Viera anyway.
It's my character's name from FFXI. Wanted it to begin with a Y and gave it an 'ella' ending.
9 is my fav Final Fantasy and Dagger is probably my fav character in the playable cast, so I decided on Til Alexandros as a referential name (which works great for me also as mainly a SMN/WHM player, though I play some other jobs too).
Fudo Myoo (the Immovable One) is one of the powerful deities known as the Five Bright Kings in Japanese Buddhism and folk religion. As a manifestation of the central cosmic Buddha Mahavairochana (Japanese: Dainichi), Fudo is believed to protect Buddhism and its true adherents. Like all Bright Kings, Fudo assumes a frightening form, with a sword in his right hand and a rope in his left. He sits in front of a swirling flame of fire, with which he purifies evil.
I have Viera names on my mind at the moment since I'm wanting to make a new alt once the males are available (and already have a character visually in mind because I liked one of the example characters from the reveal), but the names are confusing.
The naming conventions in the Lore forum say to look at Icelandic names, but browsing that list on Behind the Name doesn't seem to have any of the examples or the feel of them - though it does seem to be the direct source for Ronso names in the First (Bragi, Magnus and Runar are all on there).
I'm not even sure which gender I should be looking at, because if their genders aren't apparent at birth, they logically can't have gendered names... and then on top of that, if they leave the forest they usually abandon their birth name and pick whatever they feel like calling themselves. Great for people who want to invent their character names, not so good for those of us who need prompts.
Anyway if Icelandic is indeed correct I am leaning towards Ragna/Ragnar, depending on which gender's list I should be picking from. Though (browsing as I write this) Ragnar is a variant of Rayner so for a new adopted name I could handwave the etymology and call him... Rain? Reyn? Rayn? Something like that. Give it a few days and see if I like calling him that.
Ahnog is made up from the letters in my wife, daughter and son's name. Nogginbash just sort of went with it.
Myifee is a name I really likedand stole from Ninety Nine Nightsdespite being somewhat unknowable in pronunciation. (I say "Me-fee")
Asurai was originally Azurai, and was a combination of azure and Asura - but z sounded a bit harsh the more I said it, so it became an s instead.
Both together end up being 6 letters each, and the syllables just roll off the tongue well.
I wanted to have a unisex name for starters since I had been switching between male and female characters for a long time. I settled on Elan Centauri. Haven't switched genders in a long, long time but it's fine. I like where I ended up. lol Elan was largely inspired by a song by the same name created by Nightwish, one of my favorite bands ever, the song being from their best album ever created (in my opinion at least). Centauri was inspired by Alpha Centauri, one of the closest star systems to us in our galaxy. I absolutely LOVE astronomy. I had a character in Phantasy Star Universe many years ago named Rigel Kentaurus which is an alternate name for Alpha Centauri, and my character in WoW was named Kentaurus. So...decided to keep the name going with this variation. My character's first name was Vahlnir (inspired by my character name in FF XI) at ARR launch (hence my forum name) but I gave that name to my chocobo after the change, with an alteration or two.
"Amathel" is an elvish name I made for a Hobbit lass in Lotro, created as a Warden. "Amath" are Noldorin, meaning Shield, while "-el" is a feminine suffix meaning -daughter. This then became "Shield daughter" (although I guess someone who knows elvish better could tear this apart). This matched the class which used a shield and the background story I made for why a hobbit had an elvish name.
And because my character in FFXIV is also a small race, and my main job is Paladin (which also use a shield), I saw no reason why not to keep the name.
"Somnium" is Latin and means something like "Dream" or "Dreamer", depending on the source of the translation. I'm a huge daydreamer in RL, so it suits me.
Ko = Young, Neko = Cat ... and i play a cat so :P
With my first main--Y'jhimei Y'lshaweh--was literally just a copy of the Y'jhimei from the FFXV collab, surname added by myself.
But for Adonis Peachblossom, it honestly came to me in a dream along with her design. Adonis was the lover of Aphrodite and the god of beauty/desire. Peachblossom I'm sure was influenced by the peachblossom items, which she wears on a regular basis.
previously, X’Kaia Lue was the name I chose for my suncat, I chose to go with the Lynx tribe because I initially thought of her (post fantasia) as very elegant in an adorable way (like a lynx). So her name would be pronounced “She-Kaia”. And then i chose Lue because i have an unhealthy obsession with Lue-Reeq, the physical DPS questgiver in shadowbringers. I headcannoned that after the events of Shadowbringers, Kaia and Reeq settled down together, and everything that happened afterwards happened to Liliru (I just needed to wait to fantasia).
I dont have any reason for going with Liliru other than wanting a lore appropriate name, ahah. Almost went with Osasa Osa but thats the wrong tribe.
Kissaki Mikazuki
Kissaki is the tip section of a Japanese sword;
Mikazuki (三日月) means "crescent moon"
I couldn't think of a name, so I used the name generator. I kept hitting the name generator until it came up with something like Cillian Quemperlain. I changed a few letters and made it into Cillien Temperlain.
My forum name is my old WOW character's name. The thought process behind this was due to my brother and cousin watching me make my character and when I couldn't come up with a name, they said "What if you take a word and spell it out all weird?" So my brother suggested milky and it turned into Meillquei.
Nothing exceptional. Just watched the animated movie Fatal Fury 3 (1994) as kid, and the antagonist named "Krauser". Liked and rewrote to "Crowzer". That's all !
In WoW Vanilla I had a Hunter, Mage and Warlock ( Warlock became main in later expansions ), '' Aelona '' was the name of my Warlock's Succubus.
I just subconsciously picked it one time, it didn't even occur to me until later and I've been using it since.
'' Chillwind '' is the name of a Camp in WoW too but that's probably just a coincidence, I just thought it was a cool last name especially for a Monk.
I liked the name 'Haru' in the manga Groove Adventure Rave as a child.
