Months of harassment

I can corroborate everything said here, this dude has been spamming NN with some of the most low effort copypastas i've seen in a good while. honestly the fact that this has gone on so long is kinda depressing

As soon as it was pointed out that his main changed names, he changed it again. Sharing it is against the rules so I still can't offer much there, but just be on your toes, to all of those that are trying to stay ontop of keeping him kicked from NN. It does definitely seem like when he runs out of alts he uses his main to invite new ones.

This is bad and all but you have to be careful when kicking novices from the NN without any proof. I was on a games forum recently and someone on the forum put an opinion that wasn’t all too popular. And by all accounts was seemingly a troll.

I shared that opinion as a new poster and everyone just assumed I was their alt because they were pretty much an echo chamber and only one person could possibly disagree with them.

By all means if said sprout shows themselves to be that guy, or breaks the rules themselves then it’s fine but you can’t just assume anyone with a name that’s similar is the same guy.

if you would look at the (censored) screenshots, it's pretty obvious that yes, these are justified NN kicks, but thank you for the unneeded advice for something that has literally nothing to do with what's being discussed.

.... they spam the same stuff. we aren't kicking people willy nilly, we kick them because we know it is them because they are actively spamming racial slurs and stuff. this evidence has been brought up in this entire thread if you bothered to read it. as well as the fact that we know who it is because they act dumb about it, but we aren't stupid and their speach patterns as well as their general attitude shows off.... and character ID doesn't change, tracking someone that has been an issue in the past so you know if it is them continuing to cause problems, is something I do. I want to protect sprouts and mentors alike from trash like them. so I will continue to watch them, but with their attitude not changing and them being actively disruptive and not changing their ways, I would never think them possible, this has been months with recent uptick in activity. I'm tired of nothing being done about it, because it just feels like tedious and boring to have to deal with.

Confirming that they're now doing it two alts at a time, so you can't just have a kick window preloaded.

EDIT: I get your point here, but this has gone beyond "be careful" with this guy. He's going around the NN with racial slurs like the N word and other derogatory names and phrases. It's beyond a bannable offense. I would hate to see those things pop up as well in any NN chat just because some freak has a vendetta.

Chiming in with a censored screenshot of this since I was also on at the time. This is happening daily and with increasing frequency as this individual continues to be emboldened by lack of action on GMs' part, up until now it appeared to be largely one sprout at a time with their hate macros loaded up.

I've decided to turn off NN until things get better. So....yeah. It sucks, because I enjoyed helping people, but I'd rather not assaulted by hate speech every 10 minutes.

You see that, GM? Customer support? Anyone from SE watching? This is what will happen. You are losing helpfulness and harming your own community by your utter, miserable, complete FAILURE to do something about this. Someone who wants to help other people is forced away from it.

I just want to say I am highly disappointed that there's people here that are defending or otherwise waving away what's happening. I'm not even affected by what's going on and I think it's absolutely disgusting.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like good ribbing and trashtalk. People should have somewhat thick skin, but that attitude doesn't extend to blatant spam designed to target certain individuals with extremely rude and demeaning remarks over and over. That crosses a line from something being done in playful jest to downright vile, unreasonable behaviour. I don't know what would cause anyone to develop such a personal vendetta that they'd flood the chat with language designed to do nothing but anger other people. It's just sad, and the fact it's waved off as "yeah other places have it just as bad, who cares" or "just seems normal to me, lol" really puts into perspective how apathetic people can be sometimes.

Just because someone else does a bad thing doesn't make the bad thing okay. We should all be better than that. You wouldn't scream any of this like a lunatic in public for good reason, and those who do are often put on the internet for people to laugh at (a practice I also disagree with, but I digress). Just because it is online doesn't make the behaviour okay; it shows a very real lack of empathy and basic respect for other human beings.

I keep seeing different reasonings behind why he is doing this. When I was visiting another server he was spamming stuff and apparently they said it has something to do with him not liking how hard it is for mentor to be obtained?

Think the reasoning was more how easy it is to obtain. Note that he calls the mentor sign a "Burger King Crown" as in it's just handed out to anyone. Personally we think he's more insane than we are, but we digress. Fact is he's a sad, sorry lump of barely-sentient garbage, and should be disposed of as such.

I was just coming on here to say this, but as a long time mentor on Mid, I wouldn't be opposed to the NN being shut down until the issue is resolved. I've had dozens of players say that they're not interested in the community if this is the level of moderation they can expect and leave the game entirely. We scarcely go five minutes without a flood of N-words in our logs, and lately it's been non-stop messages about pedophilia that won't be censored via the language filter. Meanwhile we've received nothing but automated messages from support after hundreds of reports. It's absolutely destroying the experience for new players.

I'm sorry you guys and gals are going through this, that child is clearly mentally ill and I hope he gets the real life help he so desperately needs.

To be fair, everyone that hates the crown calls it the Burger King Crown; I've heard that way before even today.

EDIT: I also feel that folks call it that, the "Burger King Crown" as a means to make it seem demeaning, perhaps. Since children get happy meals...? I'm assuming here, of course.

As I said before in another thread, IP bans are almost never possible with the way IPs work... but something has to be done whether it be constant GM supervision of the channel or suspension of invites.

That chat spam is horrendous and I am sorry that any of you have to deal with it.

100% they should ban his main account, but I am afraid it will do nothing but piss him off more. He's already shown he's a psychopath and most likely will continue to open free burner accounts to rinse and repeat the spam.

Also an aside, I never realized this game has no chat filter. You would think that there would be some rudimentary autoban system based on extreme language (n- and f-).

But your doing all you can just have to keep at it until heavier punishments are given out. The when is the true question so fingers crossed it is sooner rather than later.

I will give the GM team the best benefit though. I'm sure this is a hard situation to figure out what do for, and I would rather the best solution to be implemented rather than something that can be taken advantage of or destroyed quickly.

I thought it did? You have to flip the toggle in settings to not have filters. Still though...it's still very bad nonetheless.

His paying account obviously has to have a paypal or card attached in some way, maybe instead of an IP ban (which can be skirted simply by resetting your router depending on what his ISP is) they can fully ban and restrict him in a more legal manner? By banning any associated use of his card or his payment details in general. That way, while he might be able to continuously make fresh accounts, there's no one on the inside who can constantly get him in to NN. There may be the occasional slip ups, like if he somehow managed to get someone who didn't know it was him to invite, but at the very least removing his payment options will SEVERELY limit him.

That's just a suggestion, but by god this man must have nothing better to do. I'm just imagining the worst sort of person who can do this, and I can't even begin to wrap my mind around it.

I've never joined NN, and don't know anyone who has gone through free trial and joined it) might need to be implemented. It would suck since there is no other way for them to have the ability to access mentor help if needed otherwise. Unless they create some sort of "available mentors" type dialogue box that brings up 5-10 random mentors who are online when the person logs in(similar to the achievement recommendations box), but that goes away after you are no longer a sprout.

And locking them out of NN accomplishes what? They could still do the same thing outside of the Novice Network, doing that would only be bandaid at best.

If they just keep a log or show us who is inviting who, we can report the person who is inviting them in the first place. I do on the other hand doubt that an IP ban would be completely impossible. People get IP banned from websites all the time, and public proxies are typically so overused by bots that they're also banned as well. If he wants to go through the extra effort of getting a literal new credit card, or paypal, and IP address just for the sake of spamming, its much easier to ban him again, and his mentor account (which he uses to add them) than it is to replace that. He'd definitely be bashing his thick skull against something of much higher density.

Banning a payment method is in the same boat as banning an IP. It's so easy to get a new one that it would hardly do anything. The only real solution is if SE even deals in things like MAC or hardware banning, but considering they won't even implement anti-cheats due to Japanese law, I feel like these may end up falling into the "too invasive" category. (But I'm no Japanese lawyer or anything so who knows.)

Jesus christ this is awful. Genuinely sorry to anyone who's experiencing this, it seems like every available option is skirt-able.

Simply code specific words to create flags. Populate enough flags over a certain period of time and it warrants X punishment up and to including perma bans. Rendering it impossible to spam the way he is. Will it stop the words from being used as a single word? Yes, but it will prevent spamming of it.
