Hmm, maybe I should start a newbie taxi service, don't charge anything though.

One thing worth mentioning is that's it's not the exact same carriage from MSQ. It's redesigned to be smaller, but has seats for three people in the back. The mount owner rides in frost, as expected. I'd say the actual MSQ carriage could hold about 8 by comparison
2 player seated mount for 35 dollars? Worth every penny in my opinion.
This is legit the most disgusting wallet-shaming envy filled post I've ever seen in my life. Imagine invoking something ailing the whole world to strongarm SE into giving everyone the mount for free, while still having the luxury of paying a sub and internet bills. Congrats on winning the IgNobel prize for First World Entitlement.
Bla bla bla! Another useless topic 'this is not fair! I can't get this mount cos X!'.
Well it doesn't take a genius to figure out why they're reporting record profits every quarter. Just wish they'd put it into developing more stuff for the game rather'n reboxing a 5 year old trial as if it's supposed to be 'new content'.
Wallet-shaming, that’s a new one! Sounds like you need to get out more. And then you try to undermine my pretty valid points by claiming I have the “luxury of having internet” as if that’s not considered essential in most modern countries nowadays. Good luck finding a job or functioning well in the west without the internet, it’s such a “luxury” like that. Since when did I even say one I wanted it for free or to strongarm them? As you said, this is a LUXURIOUS SUB game, so damn right I expect it to be part of the base game or event they JUST added, even going to far as to rail against a greedy capitalist character and him changing his ways. How is it FREE when we pay a damn sub every month? Keep licking those boots, you’re a natural!
The thing that most bothers me is that this is an iconic mount, it is the carriage that bring us to Eorzea. I'm ok with completely new/past event mounts been added, but this should have been an ingame reward.
SE learning from BDO lol. Maybe they'll learn to remaster the game too next? o.o
That makes 18 mogstation exclusive mounts, it seems. Well, 19 if you're counting the motorcycle since it was a fanfest reward and never in-game attainable too. 1 in ARR, 4 in HW, 8 in SB, 5 so far for ShB (which puts us right at the same amount per-patch as SB). Well, least they didn't go up. Now they're just getting more expensive.
$35 aside ($50 cad ow), does it use a generic yellow chocobo, or does it use your company chocobo?
They may have removed the moogle bent over on the Mog Station, but I'll always remember that it was the perfect analogy for the Mog Station lol
I would hardly call one account wide, 4 seater mount learning from BDO. If they want you to pay $35 for one outfit then they've reached BDO. People always freak out over cash shop stuff like no other MMO has one and that SE should be ashamed of themselves. It's stupid.
He isn't inherently wrong though. You aren't just criticising SE but mocking everyone else who does not share your opinion. Say this carriage mount is the only mogstation purchase someone makes all year; their splurge if you will. 36/12 is $3, or the price of two chocolate bars a month. For a good chunk of people that price isn't something they'll bat an eyelash over. Why is it any business of yours how they spend their money? People "waste" money on all sorts of luxury things, be it going out to fancy restaurants, clothes (which have an insane mark up, by the way) and so forth.
All that aside, while it isn't "free" in the technical sense. Our subscription covers the four month updates we receive which is a rarity for MMOs. WoW updates once a year; BDO will wind up costing you more if you want to indulge in any of its activities despite being "free to play". Just because there's a global pandemic doesn't mean SE has any obligation to give us a mount. Would it be nice? Sure. But them opting not to do so doesn't suddenly make them the devil either.
But I'm just a boot-licker, right? Because I choose to spend my money on things I want. FYI, I haven't purchased this mount nor do I intend to. I just don't care if others do.
The game I named was just an example - pointing that you could easily grab yourself new/semi-new complete game with price of single re-used in-game model.
But eh, feel free to spend your money on it if you want - it's way too large anyways, would take up entire screen unless I zoom out heavily.
Would have been nice if the model doesn't disappear when zooming in for close-up shots, and the chocobo at front would have used your own chocobo with the outfit.
Still way cheaper than getcha game.
People don't appreciate static priced item.
You’re very bold in assuming how hard hit I’ve been, and also in assuming I haven’t lost anyone to Covid-19, as if that means I therefore also can’t recognise and cite it as being a very real strain on peoples finances too. You should stop talking about people having lost loved ones as that’s not relevant or needed at all, and you’re taking this down a very slippery slope. Also, you thinking that going by TAX LAWS as a way to define “luxury” goods in a real sense is laughable, you should stop as it’s embarrassing.
haha.
SE: We can't implement it because it's too detailed (I assume poly or something like that).
Player: We want it anyways!
SE: . . .
SE: . . . . . . .
SE: $35?
Although for a four person seater, and being so large, the price doesn't actually shock me in comparison to other items. Just in a vacuum where you think digital item inside a video game that costs almost as much as that, always sounds funny.
I don't hate the cash shop but I still wished SE could focus on content that either doesn't inherently belong in the game or was at minimum offered part of an event free first as their cash shop choices. So for example all the seasons, or anything from another FF game.
Taking stuff that was already part of the game and making it a cash shop item feels a bit.. 'booo' to me. That said I have the Odin mount so I'm the sucker here.. lol. Still, would hope they can examine their other wonderful products and use that to inspire some neat things. They can still 'look like' they fit the world, which would honestly be preferable lol, but just that it's not 'hey there is this cool armor / mount / whatever in the game, I bet we can sell that instead of offer it in game'.
I know we're talking about big money here, so it's easier said than done yet still wish they'd attempt that. Like when I suggested they do airship content (like full blown airships, content with exterior and interior presence) I had thought they could make some decent money selling classic airship designs like the Lunar Whale or Prima Vista (FFIX), but had noted it would be greatly preferable not to sell a Garlean airship if they were going to consider offering that as a design option (and they can consider FFXII or other games for high tech mog shop options). Also providing a statue with it, to help justify something a bit decent of a price but uh.. plz no Star Citizen lol. Surprised they've not sold Cloud's dress on the shop yet tbh.
Anyway, it's fine but that's my bias if I could send it off into the aether in any sort of minute influence. Dear Ms. M <3. lol :p
Also while you're totally reading my letter Ms. M (0.5% chance she is lol), Mognet content in game would be amazing~ (more postmaster moogle quests, perhaps in game mog shop preview / interface, etc).
(iirc, long ago at least, Yoshida refererd to the person who directed the mog shop as M, translation said 'she', and said they're quite powerful lol).
i feel like people forget that the cash shop team is separate from the developers and that this mount wouldn't have existed otherwise lol
Okay I need to get this off my chest: Sleipnir REALLY should not be a cash shop mount.
It should be in the game.
As a rare drop.
From Odin.

Interesting discussion, guys.
Yes and no.
There is already a chocobo carriage (not the same wagon mind you, as they had to simplify it so it didn't break things, but veeery similar) in game that people had reference to wanting this, and people wanting something that's from in game isn't that unreasonable to expect that if there was no cash shop that someone on the dev team would be like 'you know what mount my audience has been clamoring for?".
"Yeah my audience wants this but I'm never going to implement it because I've no cash shop, it's not like when I design new content and expansions I make mounts sometimes- it's just simply impossible to get any other way" I think sounds far more unreasonable lol :p.
For example while I don't believe SE is rubbing their hands together and laughing manically at the sale of retainers I do believe having them as an option allows people to solve their own problem which therefore means the team is less pressured to come up with in game solutions.
Why make a crafting item bag like some other MMOs have when we can just sell them retainers? Now of course like I said I'm not saying this is Yoshida's exact line of thought, but that because players CAN solve their problem (via retainer purchases) that SE is less pressured by the players to actually solve it via in game methods.
Time + both indirect, direct interactions. So yes and no. If they couldn't sell it like they could here then obviously, or at least likely, there would be less content since they 'could' give players the wagon say in MSQ but then they'd not be giving the players something else. Obviously with the cash shop it's likely for more things to be made, because SE is a company that needs to make money and these will do that and can help them make other content in game too. Yet still my bias is they try to avoid anything that seems like it was extracted from the game and then resold, at least as much as possible. I don't count seasonals in that since I think it's nice to get new items every year, so the 'extraction' is a direct justification (easy to see and 'feel' and also feels like a 'deal' if you were there for the event itself), and also is a kind of clever way to encourage people to stay subbed (or resub) so they can get them free.
Like the below quote, to a very on the nose / more extreme example (since many items in the shop are actually fresh designs, even if in game inspired, or were free from seasonals).
(Just to be clear not extremely salty or incredibly shocked over the price- in context of the other mounts on the shop at least, lol, but just want to say that I don't agree that the mogshop hasn't potentially poached something from the game before. Because if the cash shop didn't do it then it's very possible the normal dev team would consider it when an occasion allows, with particular emphasis on things that already existed in game. This isn't an argument to burn the shop down, just that I don't agree it can't poach concepts whether intentionally or accidentally.).
I still kind of wish they upgraded the mount, making it bigger and more extreme Sleipnir (like six legs when it flys or something super mythological and hype from history, especially since when they made him they weren't making as crazy mounts but these days they've a lot of creative and scale power like the Red Hare), and then bring normal Sleipnir into the game through an unreal trial or something.
I expected something like that to be a bit higher to be honest. Haven't logged in today, and I haven't seen more than a couple pictures, but I'm guessing it's a 4 person mount? All in all, I don't think it's too bad price wise when one takes other mogstation additions into account.
There's a f*ckload of mounts already in the game for you to obtain without paying any extra in their cash shop. We got a new mount from the new Beast Tribe, a new mount from the Youkai Watch event (3 for the people who never did it before), a new mount from the latest extreme trial, and for sure we'll get more mounts from the next part of Ishgardian restoration and The Bozjan Southern Front. YET, somehow, people always forget about all this when anything new is added in the store (especially when it's a mount). Hell, mounts are even meaningless in this game; You don't need them to travel to raids or dungeons, since everything is done via Duty/Raid/Party Finder; You don't need them to travel since there's always a pretty convenient location to teleport to, and maps aren't exactly super big; Plus, all of them has the same f*cking speed. Why get so mad about this?
I wish they also gave this as a veteran reward. If new players want this mount they can pay the $35. For veterans, we havent been given anything for a long time. I would even be willing to spend achievement currency on this.
It is an irony that salty people cringe about a vanity mount after they just gave us a dwarf tank that beat all current cash shop mount and a dance move that beat all current cash shop emote.
Salt..... salt every where....
Any one with take some salt home? We got plenty in this thread!!
Whales gonna whale.
If they add it as a Veteran Reward then people will get mad because they shouldn't wait whatever amount of time to get said mount, since having a few hours in the game gives them the right to get the same reward as the people who have years playing. I mean, that's why they removed most of the stuff from VR in the first place
they've already said it would be hard and couldn't do it (at the time.) the cash shop team, whom had more time on their hands, made it possible.
of course it would be nice to have as an in game award, but im not upset that it's cash shop. some people are taking this a bit too far.
People are still complaining about mount prices? You know, these aren't necessities. I'm actually shocked we got the bees knees dance for free considering how wanted it was and they could've made a fortune from selling it.
So you agree? lol.
yes and no. :D I mean I also said that though, that with the help of the cash shop we'd get more stuff.
I'm not frothing if that's the apperance, just saying if players /really/ wanted it then there are opportunties where even the normal dev team would get time to work on it.
"What do you want to see?"
"Carriage!"
"We don't have time to make that work"
2 years later
"Hey we're doing this MSQ scene and we can use a carriage, if I model it we can give it to players as the MSQ mount, what do you think Yoshi?"
"Oh they've been asking for that for years, just do it".
Of course you'll get more faster if you allow the cash shop to influence lol, but I don't agree with you that we "wouldn't" or "couldn't" get it any other means but the cash shop.
Perhaps I'm honestly being a bit pedantic XD, but felt to say that no.. we 'could have' but it likely would have taken a while and also caused the main dev team to go out of their way to do it. Because it exists you can use it as a crutch for certain concepts but that's what I was trying to point out, main team can be like eeehhh 'they can do it' but if the mogshop didn't exist (well first we'd get less content lol) but second then the dev team couldn't say that and so it would be entirely possible to get through the main team. Not an argument to burn the shop down, just that, at least if it's content from within the game, that there is definitely a 'could'. You said couldn't I think that's way too firm and assertive, I'm saying could but unlikely or at least requires a lot of time.
