Praetorium - Worst Experience Ever

MSQ dungeon are always bad experience...

5 min of cutscene -> Rush to the next cutscene -> 5 min of... =>>> Total : 45 min+ for finish the dungeon

Why is my group watching the bad guy doing 5 min of exhibition dialogue, telling us how ambitious and bad he is groar ... Then let him go by walking instead of backstabbing him, instead to watch him walk slowly towards his big mecha or are we too arrogant like Vegeta? Hmmm I'm too strong, let him get into his big machine ... /facepalm

It's so awful. The ending of ARR in general is a huge let down, and I get the feeling they planned way more than they could deliver on, what with the fact ARR was rushed and had a lot of baggage from 1.0.

Feels like out of all the big bads we saw, Livia was the only one that was developed on screen. Rhitahtyn to some degree got a little, but was just bulldozed unceremoniously. Figure like all of them could have had echo scenes or something to tell us more about our adversary and empathize with their motivations. Instead, Gaius and Nero have a truckload of exposition just crammed into one dungeon with them. Gaius has over 15 min of dialogue and talks so much, yet says so little. Feel like if they spread the exposition out better and had better writing, they wouldn't need to have so many long cutscenes.

But there is literally nothing of note between cut scenes. Just trash mobs. And even the fastest groups would have trouble killing Nero in the 15 seconds it takes for the teleport option to show up. So you literally miss nothing.

Praetorium sucks because they have automatic cut scene triggers so instead of fighting the mobs you can just skip to the next part by hitting the triggers. If you were mad imagine how mad everyone else was to get that because you needed the MSQ lol. That entire group got that because you queued for it. No other thing I have seen in the game works like that place. It is almost like they realized they made a horrible mistake with the set-up of that place and never did it again.

Learning the basics of how to AoE, Heal, etc. all happens before 50. Learning how your class plays optimally at 80 never happens at all while leveling. Removing MSQ won't change a thing about that; it'll just make leveling take longer.

Like I said, I'm not interested in dragging out the leveling process just so I can act elitist. Removing MSQ would make absolutely no difference in player skill.

Improving the experience for new players is a reason to remove this Roulette I can get behind, but thinking it's the reason "players are bad" is just dumb... If this poor reasoning is why we want it gone I'd rather keep my poetics and faster levels.

Thread feels like bait to me. The "story" told in Prae is 90% monologuing - you are missing nothing, because, of course, it's unskippable.

They wouldn't necessarily miss out on the CS, but rather an enjoyable experience. While keeping with the group will get you through pretty unscathed, it can be easy to get turned around in there, especially if you miss clicking an elevator or grabbing a magitek key. Groups move quickly there, and it is easy for new people to get left behind, and the next thing they know they're getting a popup to join a fight. It can be jarring, and not all that pleasant for a first timer.

It's not a great situation, but at least SE did learn from that and started putting the CSs at the end of instances.

The experience he describes is pretty much word for word what happened to me. You get this big story moment but you are 3 screens behind the level 80's who just want the nightmare to end because they have seen it a million times. It is just a very poorly designed raid that allows cutscenes to progress the dungeon vs actually clearing mobs.

It is almost like they designed this place before they realized you could have doors unlock before clearing mobs.

I don't think you know what the word "literally" means.

Trash mobs are not "nothing". Not very exciting, that is true, but how would a new player even know that they are there? Walking with the magitek armour and blowing things up is one of the more fun parts of the dungeon in my opinion. Missing that isn't "nothing".
It may not be important stuff one is missing, but a new player would have no way of knowing that.

I hated Prae the first time I ran it. I got left behind, but I didn't care - I just wanted it to end. I was bored to tears, and only wanted to get the heck out.

I thought it was great the first time I ran it. Granted, I was lucky enough to be able to do it with a group from my FC who didn't rush through it.
I still think it is a pretty nice dungeon - as long as there is no rushing done.
It does of course get a bit tedious after you have done it many times - but that is true for all the dungeons, raids, and trials in the game.

Anyways, the basics on how to perform functions like AoE and Healing are covered for every class by 50. As far as playing the class optimally goes; you won't touch that until 80. MSQ makes no difference; you just like pretending it does because, like most of the insecure people in this game, you take every opportunity you can to ramble about "bads," like somehow that will convince people you're not one of them.

I like having some "easy" leveling content I can do while doing other things. I'm not willing to give it up because "ZOMG Bads! l33t skillz! Amirite other players like me who also aren't bad!! Lets talk more about how bad everyone else is and how some easy stuff makes everyone bad and someonepleasetellmeImgood!!"

Now if you want to talk about turning these into solo instances because the group experience is absolute garbage for new players, that I agree with.

First, there are two ways to view cutscenes if you missed them. There's the Neverending Journey furniture item that lets you view most cutscenes. The rest can be experienced in a New Game+. The Neverending Journey is more instant gratification. I'm not sure at what point you can start a Game+ but that will give you the full range of cutscenes.

If you don't want to be spoiled, skip the cutscenes then either replay the duty at your leisure (and watch the major cutscenes on the Neverending Journey) or see if you can start a Game+.

Second, if you want an experience that is more sensitive to your playstyle, you are better off using PF to grab a group for cornerstone content. Duty Finder will pair you with people who are just trying to get through the Duty, usually for a roulette and probably won't bother waiting.

I find it strange that DF wouldn't let you abandon the Duty mid-fight. I know you can't initiate a vote-kick but I didn't know you were locked in.

In any case, if you can't get past this then perhaps unsubbing is for the best because honestly it gets no better. You would do well to join an FC who will take you through MSQ and allow you to go at your own pace. Duty Finder is not the place for that, unfortunately. Hopefully you decide to give it another chance but if not, well... This is goodbye I suppose.

I'm pretty sure they mean the massive story cutscenes after Prae that trigger automatically after the duty. They would essentually be 'forced' to watch them (assuming they don't skip like I suggested) pushing them even more ahead than rushing the duty did.

I can't read minds so there is the possibility I am off on this one but I sense a scripted complaint here.

In terms of total cluster f*#k Castrum, the dungeon just before Prae is 10X worse yet you chose to complain about Preatorium.
The only thing about Praetorium that needs to be addressed are the first 2 teleports. Add a drop key so people can't split the group and leave sprouts fighting a losing battle.
Castrum on the other hand. That one can't be salvaged. Sprouts will die to the wholesale floor spam and not much can be done about it.

If this is a genuine case of frustration and your FC won't run both of them with you on a scenic run, get a new FC.

Add on: After they adjust ARR MSQ, I am to understand they plan to make 24 man raids a part of MSQ. If you think Castrum and Prae are hectic, you are in for a ride.

If there's no newbie there, I will try to lighten up the run by doing stand-up comedy in the party chat. If nothing else, it lets me work on my improv! (I think the one I was most proud of was narrating the entire thing as if it were a nature program hosted by Sir David Attenborough.)

I try not to do that when there's a 'new player' notification at the beginning; instead, I'll try to hang back and make sure they get where they need to go (including explaining the two spots where everyone skips the mobs, and making sure the magitek armor identification key).

Apropos of nothing, I will forever argue for us to have a tiny little Ultima Weapon minion named Penultima Weapon. It would wander around and periodically explode, just so that the minion guide tooltip could be "Such devastation! This was not the manufacturer's intention!"
