If you know how to mine, doing it faster than everyone else is not as hard as you make it seem OP, that was my point.

Silly slow galka!
Correct. With practice, you can hit the sweet spot first time every time. That speeds up the entire process by leaps and bounds. I can easily lap other players doing the triangle method (on the same nodes as myself) when I'm paying close attention and am not off BSing while mining.
Pro tip: use this site. Know the spot on the vertical slider where the item is that you want, and know the spot on the circle in relation to the remainder bar that you need to hit to get the goods. It's all downhill from there.
Nono, it exists.

Much like the NA button exists.

Once again, the problem is not servers located in Japan they already stated what the problem was, it's bad servers which I can promise you an American connecting to a shitty American server will have just as many problems as someone connecting overseas with a shitty server.
Uh, while the American would have many problems, it would not have as many as it is right now.
How about a better way to prove it. The Monk uses pummel at the front of morbol and it actually goes off. When I play on monk I can pummel and run all the way to Morbol's side before it goes off.
I don't understand why people are so against this. Even if you did have godly internet connection, it would still slow down because of all the different servers that it has to go through. Has no one else played on a non-shitty global server? There is definitely a difference there compared to a regional server.
I dont think this is what they're talking about. For instance, I can do all of the above and still mine slower than other ppl. The wait time between strikes is *more* for me than it is for the guy next to me. In some cases they get off two swings in the time I get off one and finish waiting for attempt #2. Course I blame comcast for this, but its whatever lol. Ppl really do *literally* mine faster than others, and it has nothing to do with what you described. Now if you dont know how to hit sweet spots on the first go every time, obviously that will affect your overall speed too. But there really is a difference in mining speed outside of that. Its almost as if it processes slower for some ppl than others.
Because in FFXI I can perfectly time a chain nuke with 4 other BLMs by saying:
"Nuke @19:20"
And guess what? All 5 us of start our nukes in sync at 19:20 unless someone is slacking. FFXI is also located in Japan. It's really no secret that XIV has shoddy servers, SE even admits this. So no it's not that people are "against it", it's just there's no REAL difference when playing on well optimized server hardware and software. Think of all the people who play American based online games whether shooters or MMOs from America and still have connection problems and lag?
We have to face facts, in this day and age server location makes such a little impact on gaming compared to the 90s. The standard is no longer 28.8k/56k, it's well into the 100s of Mbit type connections, when there's less people on, notice how snappier and smoother this game is? That alone should prove it's the game itself (including servers) and not the location.
I don't see what that has got to do with it .. (wants to rage)
If I'm standing next to another miner and we are hitting the sweat spot perfectly and hes in Japan, I can gaurentee you that he will finish up on the node long before I do.
This is an example of how accumulative the latency is.
I'll make it simple
a JP player has 18 ms latency so multiply that over 8 mining attempts = 144 ms
I'm in EU and my latency to SE server is roughly 300ms multiply that by 8 = 2400 ms.
Average for a US payer is something like 170 ms multiple that by 8 = 1360 ms
It means that a JP player has finished mining 2.2 seconds before me (although in my experience its actually much more than this), add this to what the OP is saying that ever battle action is taking longer due to accumulative latency and JP players do in fact have the advantage in dungeons..
Whether that matters is besides the point really the fact is that it makes a difference, and most certainly will when PvP is added.
if you say so.
I didnt read this thread, and I don't know if this has been posted but here is the good old JP button, Yay (feel free to Photoshop for FFXIV.

SOMEONE IS DOING MORE THAN I AM AND IT'S NOT FAIR.

This thread was a good read...
but if it is any consolation, I live in Japan and the response time and lag is just as bad as when I played in the states before.
I still constantly get hit by sand traps even after I am well passed them. Still got hit by eruptions in the same sense.
Menus still take forever for whatever reason. Its no different here than anywhere else.
Ultimately, It comes down to server and client. animations on your screen don't match what is being registered on the server or whatever. Don't know the actual way to explain it.
oh and whoever is talking about finishing a node quicker than you...you simply cannot prove that.
put it this way...if you run in a circle really fast around another player, on their screen it will show up as you just kind of twitching. nobody sees the exact same thing. I've played games before while two boxing....jumping around on one account but on the other screen there is a noticeable delay.
so you are telling me the people that start a new crafting action before the last animation finishes aren't in japan?, maybe they are using packet injection?
Really noticed this issue just now. Another miner and myself (presumably JP) began a node at the exact same time and by the time he finished all 8 gathers I still had 3 more to go. He was gathering almost twice as fast as I was, pretty unfair.
Regardless, everyone acknowledges that there is a lag issue. Regardless of it being UI, server, or connection issues.. It's getting very tiresome to never be able to see uldah as a whole and everyone in it, and having to walk 10 feet and stop 20 secs to see the next 50 people in that area. And, Its got worse in LL / Grid since the merger.
Too add to that, it's so bad as when I try to turn left or right while running in towns, I will start circle'ing without being able to readjust because the lag freezes everything and I do about 2 circles before it'll correct and i can continue to run, just to do it again in 5 seconds when I'm trying to adjust from the first screen/action freeze.
Lag is starting to take its toll, and being told to wait till 2.0, 2 years after the game is released is kinda ridiculous.
Were you same level? Hitting in the same spots? There are many reasons for this other than lag. A 50 miner can get most items in one swing when aimed at the correct position for that particular item, which you would know by looking at your remainder bar. This would effectively halve his mining time.
I can make a video with an LS member if you need me to ?
This is not the issue, two level 50 gatherers who both hit the sweet spot every time but one is in EU and one it JP will not stay synced up if they start at the same time.
As the post above said the JP player will finish up before the EU player, normally by 2-3 attempts.
Shrug it off all you want but people who actually gather a lot have probably noticed this.
All the latency? Stop downloading so much porn. I have no noticeable latency and my ping is below 100 pretty much all the time. Unless you have a truly horrific service provider, live in a really crappy area, have a really crappy router, or a really crappy computer, you should not have noticeable latency.
I bet your latency is much higher than 100 if you are in the US.
Try copy and pasting this into cmd promt.
tracert -h 50 traceip.ffxiv.com
Are you playing in the US, maybe you have just experienced the difference between other US players.
Please don't suggest that just because I say something that doesn't match your opinion that I have no clue what I'm talking about. I've had all gathering jobs at 50 since last summer and started redoing them again for achievements.
We were the same level (50), had roughly the same gear, and always got the gather in one swing. I was also going through the menus as fast as I possibly could to try and keep up with him, it was just impossible.
Sorry to say, but it must be a latency issue. My connection and PC are far above average. This isn't the first time I've noticed it either. I've seen plenty of people that gather just as "slowly" as I do, but every now and then I come across a machine like the other day and it's like what. the. hell.
For those of you who are so sure it's a nonissue, it may just be possible you've never had the misfortune to gather next to someone who can outspeed you so drastically. It's not exactly a common occurance. In fact I've only seen it a few times. Rest assured, it can happen and it's mighty upsetting.
Since SE is giving us regional servers I think we can assume the jp button did exist and did for long time. They can and do craft, mine, and battle faster then we do in the US. I have seen them out mine me 3 to 1 at times during high latency. I do ping and troubleshoot my network daily. That is what I do for a living. I have been in contact with SE and Comcast on numerous occasions only to find they aggree with the argument that the ping times and latency is too high for US to compete with JP in this game. Server structure certainly does not help. Since Yoshi-P is giving us Regional Servers we can and should understand that him along with many others do understand the differences a ping can make and for now SE is willing to help when 2.0 comes out. In the mean time there is nothing we can do about it. Anyone who says they are living in say TN or IL or anywhere else in the US and has a better latency and ping time then JP in Japan are full of it.
Incidently My ping on hop 15 to IP Address 202.67.52.81 was 208ms. My ping to default gateway in house is <1ms and my ping to my nearest node is under 2ms. My ping to a SE website to the coast in the US stays around 23ms. My ping does not go up or get worse till I live the continental US. By which from what you can see @208 is considerably higher.
Since its what you do for a living, you should also know time. This topic is 6 months since last was touched, dont necro dead threads ...
holy necrobump batman!
