Crazy Personal Headcanons

I don't know why but one of my personal ones is between Alexander and Hydaelyn.

It pretty much goes that Alexander saw what happened to the WoL and calls Hydaelyn on her cellphone while she's power napping, and tells her about them being killed by Black Rose.

Conversation goes like this

*phone rings and Hydaelyn answers sleepily*

"Ello?"

Alexander (in the microsoft text to speech male voice): Yo, Hyde babe it's me Alex!

Hydaelyn: What do you want... *half asleep*

Alex: so check it, I was looking at possible futures and, girl you wont believe this but your Homegirl/boy kicks it soon with this bad shizzle called Black Rose. You gots to save em!!!

Hyde: sure yeah ok... *snores and hangs up only to wake a little while later* well... shiii.... *gives Cid the idea to keep the WoL from dying or who ever it was*

Stupid I know but it's silly

The humble Popoto was descended from the humble Popoto Poto, a Lalafellin girl who either:

A: discovered the plant in question and named it after her
or B: suffered a fate that wouden't look out of place in Ovid's Metamorphosis and became the first specimen and proginatrix of the plant, which then bore her name as a result.

The logical conclusion of armchair etymology regarding item a that just happen to have lalafellin names :P

Well my crazy head canon for ShB is that Hydaelyn & Zodiark fight didn't make the 14 Shards & it was in fact the WoL who instead of joining either side in summoning went to find & end the Sound, we did find the sound & Sacrificed ourselves to it whilst the big fight was going on.. all we wanted was for our friends & society to live on so the moment of dealing with the Sound most powerful member of Convocation The WoL using our desire/creation sundered the fading Realm Amaurot was in, thus the 14 Shards were made.

It's crazy but I'm personally right of current story thinking we're basically God of Shards.

Okay, after reading all of these a headcannon composed itself in my head and I couldn't help but share.

So most of the Scions, also being a few of many Students of Baldesion (Forgive me if my lore is poor, it has been a while since I've reflected on these particular details) likely studied together at various points. despite the ages differences between some of them, since age rarely seems to be a deciding factor amongst the Students, there is likely one or two mentors they studied from at once. A day in the Lecture hall may look like this:

-Urianger is paying attention and dutifully taking notes because it's a history lecture and he loves history. Though there may be a sketch of Monbreyda in a corner...
-Y'stola is pretending to pay attention, but she's actually working on another project because Master Matoya's assignments are much more interesting.
-Thancred is using Secret and Ancient Magicks* to hide the fact that he's taking a nap.
-"Yda" (Sister or Lyse, your choice) isn't bothering to hide the fact that she's taking a nap.
-Papalymo already knows the content of the lecture, but he had nothing better to do that day and is trying to rouse Yda into at least paying attention.
-Krile's just sliding into her seat, because she had trouble leaving the two little ones she looks after at the childcare center.
-Minfilia's saved her a seat and already has a cheat-sheet of notes prepped.
-Alphinaud's not even supposed to be in the lecture hall because he's too young, but he snuck out of the childcare center to listen because he wants to learn everything that Miss Krile does.
-Alisae's tagged along, not because she wants to learn but because she refuses to let her brother wander off by himself, and she can be bored in the lecture hall just as well as she can in the childcare center.
-Monbreyda's taking notes in the back, but she's also making doe-eyes at the back of Urianger's head.
-G'raha Tia doesn't seem like he's paying attention, but his quill is scribbling awful fast for someone who's lazily looking out the window...


Obviously I'm ignoring important things like ages and timelines for this little headcanon. But it's fun to picture nonetheless.





*Said Magicks involve a pair of glasses, some glue and bribing a young Alphinaud with some chocolate to sketch a realistic pair of eyes. The instructor isn't fooled as not only does Thancred not wear glasses, but he hasn't blinked in twenty minutes.

Not so much a crazy one but, in absence of confirmation, it's probably just headcanon:
Shiva's third form in Refulgence (Savage) is the result of Eden sampling not just the Warrior of Light's memory of Shiva and Hraesvelgr's relationship, but also the Warrior of Light's memory of Ran'jit's fighting style.

And for something actually kinda crazy. This is probably a really common idea, but still, I had it while reading the Sweetmeat Mussel's flavor text:
Any and all item descriptions or flavor text are the in-character musings of the Warrior of Light.

So thinking really hard about storylines, beats, and happenstance, I'm rather liking the idea that the WoL is canonically Ala Mhigan. Old enough to remember events of the take over, but young enough to have not been conscripted. One of the few Ala Mhigans to get away, to take their chances on the Twelveswood, but only accepted into Gridania proper at all by finally taking up the mantle of adventurer. Prior to that they did a bit of slumming like most, near Ul'dah. This serves to play into why the player receives a steady stream of death threats, both direct and implied from Wood Wailers and other Gridanians when they're first starting out.

Later on down the rode in 2.0, it draws a nice parallel between the Ultima Weapon being unearthed from under Ala Mhigo. While it's Allagan, being from the same region has this nice feeling to it. Then there's more reason for the WoL to have that intense animosity towards Gaius van Baelsar directly, than there would be otherwise.

Of course the WoL is a Lancer. It's based in Gridania but makes no secret of taking and teaching Ala Mhigan heavy pikeman techniques, and so being Ala Mhigan lends itself well to that as well. Transitioning into being a DRG, there's nothing special Ala Mhigan brings to the table, outside the fact that the heavy pikemen once rode Griffins and fought in the air... kind of interesting that it'd be in his blood, you know? Fighting in the air.

For Grand Company, Gridania would make the most sense, considering you'd worked your way in the door past all those death threats and other things. Gridania is also closer to the border, and my idea for the WoL is that they miss home. Maelstrom could also work though.

You get more of a kinship with Yda, Minfilia, Arenvald, Raubahn, and The Resistance come Stormblood. Come Stormblood there's a personal stake for the WoL on top of the narrative.

Being Ala Mhigan also doesn't necessarily mean being Highlander(though that is my preference). Hellsguards, Seekers of the Sun, and Midlanders are all quite common to Ala Mhigo's regions. Promotional WoL is a the Midlander derplander we all know, but a Highlander in DRG AF cuts more of a Kain like figure, so I like that much better. As for more tie ins and good feels, Highlanders can sort of somewhat relate to Duskwights in that they both receive ribbing for their clan/race.

Nutsy, the bloodthirsty moogle running Clan Nutsy in Norvrandt, is the soul counterpart of Zenos on the First.

. . . . And Anogg and Konogg from YoHRa are the counterparts to Alphinaud and Alisaie.

the Pipira Pira and its Pipira brethren, is a fish discovered by a Lalafellin fisher, pretty simple.

The Pre Allag era were akin to Pre-history, and the Age of Gods is when the continents were still one (The Pangaea of Hydealyn basically)

The Allagans are considered the archetype for several schools of thought on Eorzea and Hingashi, as well as the originators for others things, due to a lack of sources on anything before Allag, and that only a few would know of the true archtypes in Aumarot.

Someone in my Sarg FC was saying that Ronitt and the Gogg girl from the Dwarf dailies are Cid and Nero fragments hehe

Throwing my proverbial hat in the ring, Dulia-Chai is Tataru.

I have a few more now that I’ve finally caught up.

1) Thasse and Jeryk are definitely Biggs’ and Wedge’s counterparts on the First because their personalities and friendship are so much alike.

2) Though hilariously I feel like Chai-Nuzz could be Cid’s despite the fact all they have in common is owning a giant tech company and being technological geniuses. But personalities need not be the same, and heck Grenoldt by some miracle looks exactly like Gerolt except he has hair, lol!

3) Hi, another dumb Au Ra headcanon: There is a certain herb that is like catnip to scalekin and dragons, and of course it affects Au Ra too. Said Au Ra exposed to the herb start acting like stoned cats and become stupidly affectionate and touchy feel and roll around in the stuff if possible like Toothless with dragonnip from HTTYD

4) Related to the above, despite being lizderg people, Au Ra somehow act even more catlike than Miqote when the mood hits. As in, aggressive purring and feline dumbassery. XP

My main one:

The EX primal mounts are formed from residue aether left behind following their defeat that the Warrior of Light absorbs and shapes into the horse/falcon/wolf/gwiber at will. The idea doesn't work as well for Nidhogg, the auspices, or any of the ShB trials, but I'm sure a decent enough explanation is out there.

G'raha Tia is a fragment of the original Hythlodaeus.

Those four-star cards had to be good for something.

I have a head canon that in the zodiac braves relic weapons, the historical weapon you restore doesn't end up destroyed and just goes to a museum or whatever after you go to the steps after it.

A new headcannon of mine is the two blonde Jester ladies are the 1st's version of Yda and Lyse. They're bothe blonde sound and look the same. That and the one wearing red gives you a sly smile after you first meet them.

Another one:

The monstrosities we fought in the Amaurot dungeon (1st and 2nd Doom, Therion, etc.) were originally fought by Azem and Hades during the actual Final Days, and that's why he chose these foes as the WoL's final test. Though we triumphed, we did not perform nearly as well as Azem did, thus why Emet-Selch remains unconvinced of our worth.

Apparently I am not alone in this theory of mine. I wrote a long thing on this, and though being a wild guess, I am sticking with it for now. Not to mention it would be quite emotional and poetic. :D

You've put so much more thought into this than I did! I was just thinking "yeah, that'd be a neat little parallel" - for the most part I don't like the idea of making a long list of "A must be another shard of B because of [random trait]" but I just liked that particular idea.

To play devil's advocate on the "shush" gesture, the first time in the scene with Ran'jit is probably just that. It's not the same animation (he's holding up his left hand not his right), although the two examples from 5.3 may be. We also conspicuously did some variant of that gesture ourselves as the closing shot of Shadowbringers before the credits rolled.

Definitely an interesting thought though, particularly since the two apparently-matching ones happen close together and alongside us learning about our own past self.

I like your thoughts on the past-present-future composition of the trio and the artwork as well.

On a point of detail: 8/14 soul fragments is actually the standard number - the original Source fragment and seven from rejoined shards. G'raha and the WoL currently have 9/14.

Gah! I am terrible at numbers. Well, that would mean that with the Seventh Umbral Calamity everyone in the Source turned more Ancient than sundered, and above them all stand the WoL/D and G'raha. Just food for thought.

It is a bit hard to keep track of everything I have been writing these days so it is not surprising I made some mistakes or failed to catch some things. My brain is brimming with theories and connections and I have been writing meta for three weeks now. I want to rip my brain off. I want to sleep. ;;

Yeah, your theory is fine - G'raha and the WoL definitely both have one more soul fragment than everyone else - it's just that the exact number you stated is off.

So I'm just sitting here at work half bored out of my mind.... and this thought popped up in my head... Azem could teleport any one to him when ever he needed help, while its great and all it could be bad too...


Picture it Azem and some of his friends are getting their asses handed to them, so he decides to summon his two closest friends... Hytholodaeus and Emet Selch. He does so... Hythlodaeus appears and then Emet... Emets dripping wet and wearing nothing but a towel having just finished bathing...

Hytholodaeus breaks out in laughter... Emet is grumbling and Azem is just like... Oops....

Edit: i really need to find a way to keep myself occupied on this overnight shift...

Incidentally, while not exactly your word-by-word scenario, I drew this thing a few days ago, inspired more or less by the same thought. I believe everyone agrees that Azem dragged both Hades and Hyth to all of their boss battles. xD

Before settling down in Silvertear, Midgardsormr dropped his kids off in the Churning Mists.
All seven of the first brood as dragonlings lived together there, and ruled over the native moogles as gods.
They are the gods mentioned in the Good King Mog story that the moogles served before descending the rope after the First Calamity.
Bahamut and Tiamat eventually moved out together to found the Meracydian dragon colony, while Azdaja and Vrtra moved to somewhere else.
Hraesvalgr, Nidhogg, and Ratatoskr stayed in the area their whole lives.

Louisoix would gently pat Thancred on the head as a sign of affection when he was growing up in Sharlayan. As Thancred never knew his parents and had never experienced much physical affection himself outside of this, it's why this is his go-to expression of how he cares for Ryne.

This is a rather bittersweet thing and more a question than a headcanon, but I wonder if in one or more of the many lives Emet-Selch spent amongst mortals and had families and sired children and everything (and I do headcanon him having walked every path of life as a mortal from emperor to pauper, he has lived enough to do so) he got to form a family or be friends with some of our previous reincarnations. I mean, I doubt we were always reborn to be an active Warrior of Light.

Also to more bittersweet feels I would headcanon that since inevitably Emet would outlive every single one of our mortal reincarnations, if he was part indeed of some of these past lives, he would have been by our side in our final moments to be the one to guide our soul safely to the Lifestream / Underworld.

It does make me wonder if Emet tried to search for us or for our other friend throughout time. Heck I wonder if Elidibus tried to find us as he seems to have wanted to be like us.

Like I wonder if Amon's making of Xande and the rest super tall was his own doing or if a certain person whispered in their ear. You know in the hopes that a taller body would mean they'd regain their ability to creation magics. Along with why he chose Garleans.

Oh man could you imagine Emet or the other two having try number 500 self recordings like Michael did at the beginning of the Good place? I mean how often in the beginning did they try to remember things pre-sundering.

This inquiry also had me wonder if that included our previous life and that if he was the reason Hydaelyn decided to give us her Blessing. As the Lifestream was both their domains in a sense I think he'd might've been in contact with the mothercrystal despite their obvious enmity.

Also because of said emity that Hades would prolly have to find that incarnation in a real desperate situation to warrant coming to hissworn enemy for help in the first place.

The other adventurers who appear to help us when there's no logical way to call for other people (AKA other players in the majority of dungeons, raids, and trials) are our alternate selves from the other Shards. They constantly change in appearance and jobs because time between the Shards is inconstant; they've gone through an extra lifetime or two and reincarnated since last time.

Myste is what's left of our alternate from the Thirteenth, channeled through the dark knight soul crystal. He has to continually consume aether because his soul is a fragment of a fragment and needs the extra energy to keep existing. While he rejoins with us at the end of the level 70 quest, there just isn't enough left of him to count as a full Rejoining; just a fading echo of regret, begging for forgiveness for his failure to save his world.

My craziest theory is that the Convocation = The Twelve. They were down to 13 members after Elidibus was sacrificed (Yes I know Azem left but technically they were never replaced so...still part of the group even if the others won't admit it). Despite the name of The Twelve there are actually thirteen gods with Nald'Thal being twins and not a single deity. And according to Eorzean history, before the first umbral era it was a time when gods walked Eorzea. Considering how powerful even Sundered Ascians are, I'm betting they still looked very much like gods to the newly sundered survivors and the new life that was springing up. After the first Calamity, the gods apparently fled. The Ascians of course better able to go about their great works from the shadows.

I have two more. One is G'raha has excellent tail control and that he either constantly had his wrapped around his waist or is able to not have it move for a long time. You can't tell me that it wouldn't be making swishing noises under that robe. Unless you're going to tell me it was crystallized and broke off/fell off.

The other one is that part of the reason we goof on summoning an image of the primals is that we're also remembering what they looked like presundering. Specially if we're like those who either can't or have a hard time rendering a mental image of things in their head even if they know what thing is supposed to look like.

He may not have good tail control after all. If you talk to a guard after a cut-scene, he mentions that he swore he saw a tail swishing under his robes. I wonder how many other potential glimpses others in the Crystarium got.
