It can... but I doubt there's 16+ terabytes of data in this game. A server merge shouldn't take more than 6 hours tops and that's with a 1-2 hour buffer to make sure nothing broke.

Many times on Linux/Unix based servers and quite a few times with Windows 2000 to 2003 to 2005 to 2008. And most of the time involving new equipment.
Have done it with much more data than this game has in totality.
If something is broken and it takes more than 3 hours to figure out... SE needs to re-evaluate their administrators and think about getting a whole new team. This is embarrassing.
its not like they know the server structure they worked with for a year now, they must really suck at their job
thank you random person with no insight into the details of the internal structure of the project whatsoever
you surely laid their incompetent asses bare...
no offense but i hate it when random people think they are better than a team that works on it for a living for over a year now
I can't believe nobody's commented on this one:
Yes, you can now see when you can fire off your conditional weaponskills!Quote:
[dev1346] Action icons on the action bar will now blink if activation conditions are fulfilled for the following actions:
Haymaker / War Drum / Phalanx / Fracture / Overpower / Feint / Full Thrust
How much would the individual character transfers (especially in the case of Ragnarok) and then the implementation of 1.21a add to the downtime? I get the feeling those cases would have a larger downtime to data transfer ratio than just a flat out merge. I would hope they had the foresight to at least have Ragnarok prepared for data before hand, but they would have had to wait until servers went down to transfer the most up to date data.Quote:

It really depends on the amount of files, 200GB worth of a whole lot of small files would take longer than 200GB worth of 10 files. This is coming from another server admin. If you want to experience this yourself do the following, pick the FFXIV game folder on your pc and copy it to another hard drive it is around 11GB + and 117,686 files on it, now transfer the same amount of data with mp3's and the time it will take transfer should be different, even though the total of data is the same the amount of time to complete will not be.
This is coming from a humble Server Admin.
Where'd /tell notification went? D:
nvm, found it
Thank you so much for giving us stackable materia!
Is it just me or is the casting time longer than usual?
Did anyone else lose all of their macros after the merge? I didn't see anything about that in the "Precautions for the World Merge" article. It's odd, since macros are saved locally, not on the server.
It's because the world name changed and the user folder where your settings are kept is partly named after the world. Check the latest lodestone post.
