Destroy probably means they are willing to go down to a price that makes you wonder why you even put up. I had a few items where someone kept posting for 1 gil less. So i just kept dropping it by 10k. They never sold their stuff and took all of them off MB. Lots of junk on MB is venture stuff anyways. So it was zero investment and just the few seconds to click retainer. Spent more work repricing junk then actually getting it.

1 gil undercuts are a waste of time for everyone involved. If two or more people are listing an item for 10k, but are willing to go down to 8k, they would have to go back and forth 2000 times until they consider stopping. And 10k is a very low price example. Stop wasting time and offer a better price

When I want "get rid" of things I'll go usually for about 10% less, but they are limited quantities as one piece or alike, nothing to break the current value of things.

1 Gil less, I found it so annoying. If I've to sell something I see listed a 1999, I sell at 2000 or 1800 if want get rid of the piece faster.

I don't care if they undercut by one gil. I will undercut by 5 and if there are priced items that are seriously low i'll buy and relist if it's a fast moving item if not I'll undercut the low price just to spite the person doing it.

Supply and demand. If something sells less than once a week and I keep getting undercut by 1 gil, I am nuking that goddamn price as soon as I can.

I'm not interested in making exorbitant amounts of money. I'm interested in making amounts of money I deem fair as a seller and as a buyer. I look at prices from both angles. Sure, that HQ level 10 staff may be selling for 60k once every month, but there are very few people interested in buying that junk for that price and you're helping the world far more by setting it at a more reasonable price where you can both profit and help a new player, which helps the entire game.

Sorry, the excuse that you're doing it for the buyers doesn't fly when the only thing that makes you help the buyers (tanking the prices) is someone undercutting, and you probably already undercut someone else to list your items in the first place. At least be honest and admit that this is born out of arrogance and selfcentrism because you can't handle someone else selling theirs before you. Where was the buyer friendly price in the first place when you listed your item, and why does it only come when someone just places their item 1 gil below yours and you decide to ruin it for everyone else selling that item.

Tldr: who died and made you white knight of the consumers, when your white knighting only comes out from hating that someone sells their item before yours and they're not even hurting your profit?

I used to see accessories from an NPC right next to the marketboard being sold for 10x their price with sale history at people buying that price. It's sort of wild.

Now that my cheaply purchased goods have finally arrived in the mail, I can now post something a little more lengthy.

There are a lot of things that people are not taking into consideration when someone decides what is a good practice in listing an item or not.

One of the major things that seems to be ignored is this: sellers are buyers, too. As a buyer, I like to see prices sold cheaply. Practices like 1 gil undercuts do not promote this. Whenever I see someone selling their item for 1 gil under the one below them, I make a conscious decision not to buy theirs. Unfortunately, not everyone does this, so people who do 1 gil undercutting will eventually be rewarded for their practices anyway.

Another thing is that undercutting is not the only effective method to sell items. Due to the way that we can only buy what is being sold at the quantities it's being sold at, there are multiple ways you can use to make your item more appealing. One of the more obvious ones is to sell in quantities lower than what is being sold, but there are others. One that a lot of people don't realize they can do is such: sell at quantities higher than what is being offered, and at a higher price.

Buyers are sometimes looking for different things. Their needs can be somewhat specific depending on the recipe. If a recipe calls for 4 of an item, but there are only 2 listings at the lowest price of 1 item each, then you can actually list a stack of 4 for a higher price that the other listings and still get yours sold before them.

I like to see sellers put some effort into appealing to their buyers. 1 gil undercut is one of the most least effort things a seller can do while simply screaming "me first!" It's unappealing to me as a buyer, and it's annoying and rude as a fellow seller. And so I reiterate: if you want yours sold first, offer something I'm not. A 1 gil undercut is not a deal.

Undercutting by 1 Gil is the most respectful way you can list your item without cutting into the other people's profit by tanking the price.

And please let's stop the upvote farming narrative that you tank prices for the buyers. If you can tank prices that hard because some one undercut for 1 Gil without massively hurting your profit, you could have already set your price that low in the first place. You just care about your profit until someone undercuts, then it's just tanking out of spite. Helping the buyers is just a convenient excuse to justify Gil baron flexing.

Also, no, it's not the most respectful way to list your item. That's absurd. You have multiple other options, including listing at the same price and listing at a higher price.

Not "The Most Respectful", the MOST respectful way would be to put your price up at the exact same price, then you both have an equal chance at a sell.

Also If I see $19,999 I will drop it to $19,000. Same with any price. We can play the 1 Gil game as long as you are ok with dropping it 1k every time you want to drop it 1 Gil. I've got time to play the auction house mini-game.

Not really. MB lists by most recent first in those cases, so the last one to add theirs would be the first sold, in the most likelihood.

that's not true at all. I do it all the time and it's totally random who's item goes up first. Some times I put it up for the exact same price selling out of the exact same city and mine is at the bottom.

Yeah, when someone undercuts me by 1 I try to match them. If they do it again, I'll probably match again because I think it's silly to lower the price like that. If they do it AGAIN, I'll decide to take much more drastic measures depending on what I can do about it- which of course depends on what the market looks like (if things sell fast or not, if I can get them to undercut larger cuts so I can buy them out, etc). I do take city state into account though, sometimes it's 1 gil undercut but my retainer is in a better location so I'll wait and see what happens (some buyers pay attention to tax rates lol).

1 gil undercutting every 30 minutes, which I've seen, is the most annoying thing I've seen. If you think the price is unfair then just set it to what you think is fair lol. Can be made worse when it's a fast selling item but everyone is posting together in a trail of items 1 gil off from each other, if it's fast enough and lots of people went under market price you can buy it all and put it back up XD.

If a buyer is smart, they'll look for a listing from a retainer in their MB's location to avoid the taxes. Sometimes this works to your favor, and sometimes not. As annoying as 1 gil undercuts are, there is nothing wrong with it. There's no rule, this doesn't make them bad people. The 1 gil undercutters just have to be okay with the way the rest of the AH deals with them.

I would agree with you but after the whole "cross-server" implamintaion.. the only real city to sell in is Limsa.. it's just the "MOST" convenient location to sell and to quickly check on prices.. so when someone comes over form another server they are probably using the Limsa city jumping from server to server real quick to check prices.

If we do have the exact same price whoever has Limsa as their selling city will get the sell most likely.

Rarity of items = higher price

The higher the demand means more people are gonna be selling them which means prices compete and crash and the items become less rare because more are being sold

It wasn't this bad till they added cross world system. When SB launched all the new gear sold for double what it does now. Crafters not only compete with their own server but other servers now. You need to visit every other world on your datacenter before posting items then only to be undercut 5 minutes later.

i have a feeling that almost 80% of in-game transaction is done in limsa. no other city can compare, will be interesting to see how much player set limsa as their home point.

Desynthing is the culprit. Giving everyone the capability to desynth everything has crashed the market on what were once semi valuable mats. Cheap mats mean cheaper items crafted from said mats.
