This is another inconsistency. Logging into XI through Steam? Fine. Logging into XIV with Steam? Not fine. Both are MMOs. Both are MMOs from Square. Both are MMOs that cost the same subscription price.
I'm not sure I'm understanding the problem.
Can someone explain?
So what I am getting is...
Those who have bought the game off steam, bought it again so they can have the full benefits
of Steam right? They have they blocked you from signing in your Windows version log in or blocked you from using the Steam features?
Or both?
I have my game manually added and I wish I could use the features. :/
But not willing to buy again, and if people are having issues with Steam (which I've seen plenty)
glad I didn't!
Yes. People had a non-steam windows version account and client. We bought the game again on Steam to use the integrated features of steam and steam games.
As of the 29th, we now Have to use the windows login client to access a windows account. The Steam login client does not work* for me and other people in the situation above.
*(At least in a way that still maintains an ability to log into FF14 with Steam detecting and reporting that I am online in the Steam version of FF14.)
This annoys me...
But, I could work around it...
It's the people who are dependant on steam for their controller functions that I really feel for...
I can't speak for everyone.
But my situation is that I bought the game on steam way back, which force me to buy the expansions on steam too. I wasn't keen on it but well didn't have a choice.
Problem is, when I install the game on steam it crashes all the time. So I installed the windows version and it worked just fine. But all of a sudden I can't log in even though I'm still subbed and I hear it's because I HAVE to use the steam version which is currently uninstalled.
So yeah, apart from being extremely annoying I'm also getting the feeling that I won't be able to play anymore if I still have constant crashes on the steam version.
And also I don't know what compelled SE to do that cuz it's utterly pointless.
In my case, I started playing in beta and got the game. there was no steam option. I got the steam option (for perk/features that everyone else mentioned) once i found out about it. now I have to do a workaround to play the game and have no tracking.
but i do get to have a lovely "is playing ffxivboot64" now. so we got that going for us.
Please square revert this issue back to the way it was. I got the game for free through twitch then bought it on steam so I could track my hours and screenshots. Since I paid for this game I can't use it now on steam so we deserve a fix or compensation. I'd prefer the fix.
Oh dear...
And there was no warning? Even so, there's no reason for them to do this.
I'll stand by you all with this. The communication them and the players is appalling.
Even Steam reviews and going down because of this. Hopefully this was a mistake
and fixed ASAP, which should have been by now.
There's still people thinking they can't play at all so raising awareness to the workaround is a good idea. Good luck!
I think someone earlier in the thread said that "the change has been on something hardcore players read for months" or something like that but I just play the game and don't meta (I didn't even have a forum name until right now to add a me too on this thread and express my irritation about the matter). So even then, players like me wouldn't have know about it. I also think another statement said the post said the changes would affect steam players. Which I guess is technically true since it forces a steam account but it definitely affects windows license players like me who use the steam launcher so we can get steam perks.
i want them to change things back , this is not a good thing to implement especially without any way to change or game version cause i hate using steam and others want to. it was fine before , why must SE always mess up something
Figured out a bit of a workaround for this, once you have installed the Windows version and have that up and running and are able to login you can trick Steam into thinking you are playing the Steam version by first launching the Windows version through Steam as an added Non-Steam game and while you still have the launcher open, go ahead and start the Steam version. You will get a prompt that says The FINAL FANTASY XIV Updater/Launcher is already running. However as long as you don't click OK and leave this dialogue box open, Steam will still think you are running the Steam version and track your hours played correctly to the Steam version. Not ideal but at least you can retain all of the Steam features this way.
Well, I found out about steamedit, which edits your library entries rather straightforwardly, so you can edit the launch settings to allow you to play your windows account via Steam launcher.
So there is no way to login my non-steam account with steam app anymore?
Is there anybody know wether any solution?
So please how should I do? I just want track my play time with steam app.that mean you have solutions?
The only solution is for them to treat Steam as a separate platform, something Steam users have been asking for since they first mentioned this change months ago (we wanted to add Windows keys to avoid auth server issues should they arise).
so far, as a steam-FFxiv user, there hasn't been any auth server issues at all. in fact, if you are a steam-FFxiv user already, almost nothing changed.
The only significant change has been Windows-FFxiv users can no longer "easily" use the Steam App to open their Windows-FFxiv version. There are workarounds in this thread.
I have several performance issues with the steam client, even with overlay disabled.
So this change has been a sore thumb for me, and it would appear that the workarounds you mention have been somewhat moderated and deleted from the thread.
Edit: The performance issues are specifically for FFXIV run through Steam, i don't have the same issues with other games i own there.
I have tried to find a sollution to my specific issues but none have really helped so far.
Interesting, was not aware of the moderation. Im sure they can be found on the subreddit at least. the steam issues unfortunately require diving into your PC specs, drivers, last windows updates, etc. Im sure you dont want to get into it here, but steam uses so little resources its hard to imagine its the sole problem.
It's not that Steam drains resources, but i get DirectX crashes more frequently when launched through Steam, and global keybinds for VLC, Discord etc. don't work.
This is why i used the regular Windows client for several years, as it never had these issues for me.
Yep, SE just does not want to put in the effort to manage platforms properly. An example of how to do it right is what Bungie is doing. They are transferring platforms, migrating everyone for free, adding cross-save, introducing a free version all at the same time while moving from battle.net over to steam. Steam is not the limiting factor here even though it has its own issues, SE just does not want to.
SE you might be able to censor users on your own forums, but since there are such simple workaround and how annoyed people are, doesn't this surely not suggest perhaps you should reverse your Steam/non-Steam requirements?
