if you want ez commendations, play tank or make good calls or be witty and funny. thats how i got most of mine
Good lord, I've been playing for a little less than ten months and I already have ... let's just say more than enough to earn the gilded magitek armor. Full disclosure - I earned them mostly as PLD; RDM being a more recent addition.
After reading the OP's first post, I can't see why people aren't showering him with commendations...
I only have a few common sense tips:
1. Don't be a jerk. People don't like jerks.
2. Linger after the instance is over. You're more likely to get commendations if you're one of the only ones still in the party! :D
3. I always just give a simple "Evening/Afternoon, all" greeting when one starts.
Weird. I get 2 to 3 comms a run, sometimes 7 on 8 man stuff. I play a tank...I must ve doing something right
Is this a git gut thread?
I've been playing off and on since launch, I main dps jobs (though I play everything), I have almost 2000 commendations.
@OP: You're doing something wrong. You aren't owed commendations just because you think you are.
That. People keep saying that you get more coms when using support skills like tactician or refresh, but that's far of being true. I dont count anymore the number of times where i did save a run by repeatedly verraising several people, mana shifting one of the two ressurrected healers so that he can begin to heal again right away, even sometimes at the cost of becoming out of mana with lucid dreaming and mana potions still on cooldown, and end with no coms at the end. And the run after that i get some of them doing nothing special, just spamming my dps skill like a retard so automatically that i could have watch netflix on a second screen if i wanted to.
It can be so random that a good advice not already said to the op could be that he need to pray RNGesus more XD
As a Tank who doesn’t get that many commendations. (Which I understand why. Healing can be stressful.) I don’t really mind.
But then again, I already have every commendation achievement in the game (currently)
Only 107 comms in 4 years?? Sorry, I have to call BS on that. I got past 120 comms within the first 3-4 months I started playing this game AS A BARD! You might want to study some guides and be nice to your fellow comrades in dungeons and then you'll start to see an upward trend. But it's commonly known that comms primarily go to tanks and healers. DPS? Just sit your booty in the back seat and enjoy the ride! :D
2100/3000 for my free fat bird, don't u dare try and take that away from me good sir.

My achievement history.
Something seems way off about the OP's experience. I started playing in Feb 2015 and main'd DRG through ARR content and most of HW. Post HW MSQ I switched my main to BLM. Then at the beginning of SB I switched mains again to PLD through SB MSQ. Post SB MSQ I mostly played WAR and DRK.
So yah, I got most of my Comms after switching to Tank, but it would seem I managed to get x5 as many Comms as OP in half the amount of time when I was playing DRG/BLM as my main...
The Vonfiebryd Guide to Commendations:
1) Be a Hero. Que up some old ARR/HW content and be ready to get some ppl who don't know how to do it, thru it. Best if you are healer but if you call out mechs or are otherwise just awesome you'll get the comms (I've literally gotten 6 of 8 comms doing the Crystal Raids--multiple times from being healer hero/SMN hero).
2) Be Funny. Joking around in face-roll content, chat-wise will often get you comms--especially if you really connect with the group. Have fun with this.
3) Be Vocal (but not Salty). A simple greeting goes a long way. If typing is not your thing, make a friendly macro. Also if you know you're going to give a comm for a specific reason, don't be afraid to call it out. I comm for clever screen names and I like tell the person when I do. Many times they'll comm you back.
4) Be That Guy. One memorable time I put up a troll post in PF (Will do Miqote stuff for Gil) as a joke but when I qued for MSQ, the group had seen it and thought it was hillarious. It was a premade so I got 7 of 8 comms. Hasn't happened since but hey... Put yourself out there.
5) Always give Comms. Whether you believe in karma or not, you can't lose.
You can do it. I'm BLM main who started in HW and I have 2000+ comms. Hope this helps.
I can't believe people still fall for trolling as obvious as this.
people usually tend to give commendations to tanks and healers or dps->dps or completely random. however I've seen a lot of ppl wishing to get commendations or complain about not getting any. you guys really shouldn't take this system so serious and ofc not feel obliged to give any to anyone.
if you need them for any of the rewards tied to them i recommend using the heal/tank job more frequently.
I don't do any of that, and I've got 3761 commendations after 4.5 years of playing.
The absolute easiest way to get commendations...play your class competently. Don't be dead weight in an instance, don't try and pull for the tank, don't be an ass to the other players(this being the most important one next to competency)
Oh, and don't run with pre-made groups. I solo queue for 99% of the stuff, and get commendations almost every single run of whatever it is.
If a healer dies and wipes the group I will 100% com them because they need the encouragement the most.
Step 1: Play a Tank or Healer
Step 2: Know how to play
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit (commendations)
DPS can get them too, but you actually have to know how to play. Sounds like if you've only gotten 107 in 4 years, you either don't play often, aren't very good, or might not be very friendly. Just to give you a comparison, I've been playing since 1.0 (so played ARR since release), I main tank, and I have over 2000 commendations. But I have gotten a few hundred from when playing DPS.
...lvl 70...Archer
dps complaining about coms...
trollolololol
Wha...? How...? Only 107 in 4 years? I have 4515 in 6 years. I am at the point where I don't want people to give me commends because I already have all the rewards.
Maybe try playing healer or tank? They tend to get more commends in general, but you still get them if you play DPS well.
Honestly, I feel like you must be doing something wrong if you only have 107 in 4 years
So you're tantruming like a child, and you expect to be rewarded for it?
If you look hard enough into the matter, commendations do not mean anything.
well if everything else fail, maybe he can defense himself with "but look at my coms, people loved me!!!"
If there's anything I would give you a commendation for, it's spawning a thread that reached 11 pages in less than a day.
But in all seriousness, don't go into dungeons expecting commendations every run, you're going to have a bad time if you do.
Would be nice if they added more items to the System (would love a 2 seat mount *Cough*) but it really don't matter to them anymore it seems.. So many system get left behind eventually =/
If you seriously only have 107 commendations after 4 years of playing FFXIV, I think that's more telling what kind of player you are and given the entitled attitude in this post it pretty much confirms it. I started at Heavensward launch and I have over 1000 comms, which isn't exactly a lot compared to others. You aren't owed commendations for anything. It's simply a way to show appreciation to someone who left a positive impression on you.
I'm guilty of giving out my commendation blindly to whatever Green or Blue icon is in the list; not because of laziness....... but b-because of....
Okey it's laziness, ....b-but in my defense! -it is a kinda flawed system not because of what it is, or what it rewards, or who it rewards it to, but WHEN the system asks the player to make that choice, ... right frick'n after a Dungeon or Raid, when the person might be a bit drained or tired if it's been a long night.
The system itself is fine, it's the execution of the system that desperately needs attention. As a Monk all i can do is solely focus on my self, make sure i'm contributing, not getting hit with Damage/AoE's to overstretch the Healers... i am not paying attention to other folks performances even in the slightest; unless it's something really slow and laid back like early Dungeons or GuildHeists; and even then i kinda am not paying much mind to others unless it's a situation calls for it.
That's the main crux of Duty finders commendation system, it relies heavily on user behaviors, and habits, and what people lean more towards; -behaviors, or... habits; it's not a system that allows breathing room for critical thinking, people usually just want to leave the dungeon.
EDIT: In a perfect world, the commendation system would fit more comfortably as it's own independent system not tied to content, but in past games, I've seen commendation systems in older Korean and Japanese online game titles abuse that system, so i can understand why this one is where it is, i just believe it can do a better job at allowing people more time to think about that choice, rather then being in the time window it's in right now.
If i knew people wouldn't simple abuse it or use it to harass people, a quick performance review system- where players can actually write about the players performance, and rate them that way publicly, would be much more rewarding and beneficial to long-term play. -Again.... if there weren't so many terrible people in this world, that system could really work.
I give commendiations to green icons only, because its my favourite colour. :p
there is a really easy way to get comms just get some friends and que up for the same guildhest together at the same time but not as a group odds are if you will all get put into the same instance since no one really does those and you can clear it in less then a min and pass trade comms to get whatever reward you want its not hard sometimes you have to think outside the box
