I don't get how we would get sample names / auto-generator but not the rules themselves.
I guess I'll be keeping my Au Ra name for a while until they deliver.

Thank you for letting us know! That's a pity, but it's also understandable.
And I guess using the auto generator would work, but I fear there might be some meaning behind surnames (if not names themselves) that us RPers would need to know in order to adjust our character's stories.
I would just like to point out that there are now four naming conventions for every race and not just two anymore. So there is essentially double the work to compile a list of Viera and Hrotgar names.
And that's not counting all the other races who now have new naming conventions we will probably want to know too.
Regardless of what you RP as, your Viera is technically a Rava or Veena and your Hrothgar a Helion or Lost.
The naming conventions of the 1st could have come later when the dust settled and people had time to sink their teeth into the 1st lore. A delay for the playable races's conventions until after regular SHB launch is pretty disappointing.
They need to format it for us and also writte better the lore details, and that takes time. If they just released it as they use it internally, I'm sure that we would be even more confused.
Anyway, it seems that I was 99% wrong (lol) and they won't be able to release them even tomorrow. Well, no biggie~ Thanks for the heads-up, Sicycre!
Wait, so you won't even be releasing them during maint? Or even before official launch? This is kind of a big deal to much of your player base. This feels like a pretty big oversight.
Still smarting from the lack of male Viera, and now from this. Knowing that the parts of the expansion I was most excited about were given such low priority is disheartening.
Aww! Well, I still have kind of grown used to my 'best guess' name, so hopefully I end up being somewhat close. Sjel does sound suitably Viera to my ears, anyway. :)
In the character creator you have the option to choose a random name which follows the conventions. By this point they have to have it all prepared and integrated. So, I wonder why there's a wait?
Because the info is probably existing in a series of spreadsheets, handwritten notes, and random scriblings, and needs time and effort to format, collate, and distill that info into a meaningful and player-friendly post. With the whole team all-hands on deck for launch (yes, even the lore team) they probably didn't have time to get it ready. Which, to be honest, sounds like they are taking this launch more seriously than Stormblood's - which means it may be a (slightly) smoother launch this time. I'm sure most people would trade a smoother launch for early access to the naming conventions; so that's the call the team probably made.
Just speculation of course, but those kind of things are exactly how the industry works.
Well that's a little disappointing.
Ah well. Random name generator still is a thing, and the specifics of it can be worked out from that if you analyze it (unless there's a conlang in there like with the Roegadyn).
Disappointing, but it mostly just affects roleplayers, as most people will ignore the naming conventions and do whatever.
I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.
This kind of rather sucks and I'm hoping that at least the random name generator will be in place and not missing for some reason as well. I was actually planning to start a new character, because I'm weird like that, and having a lore-fitting name is kind of something I'd prefer. The name generator providing a basis to work from though would be plenty, just hoping they didn't skip on sorting that as well. >.> But at the very least I can stop checking the lore forums relentlessly for an update on this. :P
Wait, is the generator even in place?
Thank you for update! It's a little bit a disappointment from my site, but it's understandable. Is there ANYTHING you can tell us abount the names? Some direction for the ancestry? Nordic? celtic? Only a little help for us roleplayers would be very helpful for tomorrow! :)
Here's hoping the names dont come with the baggage that xaela or sun seekers do.
You expected people to commit to new races. People are buying fantasias, and name changing tokens, but you won't even let us in on the naming conventions ahead of time?
This is a waste of money. What if I name my character and then the naming conventions come out later after I've purchased my token. I'm not made of money SE. As a roleplayer this will affect me should I choose to go with a lore friendly name. I have my token for my Hrothgar waiting for my next log in during early access, and now I'm at a loss for what I'm going to do.
You'll still have the name generator in character create if it's that critical that you change races immediately. The only details you won't have are what the names actually mean, or if there's significance to the last names. If that's what you're worried about, and I totally get why that's a worry, then I'd suggest sitting tight on the change/creation for the first week or so until the launch frenzy has subsided. It's disappointing no question, but there's no need to spend more money than you already have.
I too got excited and burned 10 bucks on a name change before waiting to see if the naming conventions would be released during maintenance. Yeah, I'm bummed, but I think I will do what I can with the random name generator, for now. When the conventions are up, I'll adjust it. I think it would behoove everyone to take a step back and breath. The dev's are doing their best. They listen to their community's input, they put out information when it is 100% ready, and they are also People--I think that last part is kind of important, because while they are obligated to put out the product on a schedule; even they can slip up or have to adjust fire. Hang in there everyone! We will get our hands on everything soon enough.
P.S. If we ask nicely, maybe we can get a refund on that hastily purchased name change, or get a free one once the conventions are up. If not, we'll just have to skip a lunch to make up for it and buy another! Because determination! *v*
Man, I was hoping at the very least they would give us a basic point of origin for the names... Hopefully the name generator will provide that or something. This is a HUGE bummer though, I was looking forward to brainstorming names during the downtime. :(
Agreed, at this point due to the way it forces you to do your name change before the fantasia, I'll have to create a new character, look at names using the name generator (hopefully they're updated), then switch to my actual character and put in the name I decide on.
Randomizer names have been datamined:

source for this one? I mean did you datamine it yourself or someone else did this?
The names linked above seem correct, now that the early access is out. The Hrothgar names are generally Slavic or pseudo-Slavic. I gambled on [Old Norse given name] [Danish surname] and lost. Oh well!
