Oh my gosh, YES. As an Au'ra, I would totally love to wear the Miqo'te version of the Hempen Camise. I know it's unlikely, but my glamours would look so much better!
I can understand your argument about starter gear. As that actually qualifies as “gear”, but Hempen? I can’t understand. Hempen is simply glamour, it is not “gear” and was not intended to be so. But we will see what Yoshida says.
Also, we will support Hempen sets to be unlocked. :)
Not much need in the unlock of starter gear
All of them are pretty much the same besides Au ra,viera and hrothgar
I'd be down for this. I know it won't happen but I'd really like the starter gears to unlock as well. Part of my reluctance in going Viera is the inevitable loss of the super versatile Elezen boots and pants.
I wouldn't mind the starter sets being unlocked, but they're all kinda bland and samey except for Au'ra. The hempen sets could be used to create a wider variety of looks. The female miqo'te and elezen tops in particular don't have analogues that you could use instead if you wanted to recreate a style.
I wear the camise on my Her, but I'm not crazy about the belly exposure. Would much prefer the femqote one.
I made a thread asking for it five years ago, so it's pretty easy to believe it will never happen.
And technically it's more like 14 glamour sets since it has different male and female versions for every race +highlanders.
"We" will probably not agree on what to support, I'm afraid. I think our ideals differ.
But to answer about the hempen set, it's just part of the collectively small amounts of RSE that we have. It's effectively one set per race, plus the hempen gear. We need more. Not less. My lack of support for unlocking these for all races is simply part of my support of having more race unique gear in the game.
Pretty much all this.^
I'd love to see it happen but it doesn't seem to have ever been a priority for Squeenix. I suspect they like having some stuff race specific too else they'd unlock other stuff like the hairstyles for everybody. From a business standpoint, why would they spend resources remapping old content when they can make new purchasable/earnable things. Also in the financial realm, racial differences give people more incentives to buy fantasias. Not saying I like it this way but I don't see them changing any time soon.
I support this petition!...
I would also like all the running, standing, sitting and sleeping positions/animations to be unlocked to every race, as nature doesn't forbid wearing what one wants it shouldn't forbid positions or animations either!...
From what I vaguely remember there was some technical limitation thing about the hempen set being essentially a "layer 0" to all races, so it's harder to replicate the mesh and adapt it to other races. That said, I only very vaguely recall that being Yoshida's response ages back and idk how that leaves the Emperor's New Set since THAT seems like a real "layer 0" but what do I know?
...Still would like the Au Ra male set unlocked <.<
That kind of greed doesn't help the cause, Square Enix will never unlock anything race-exclusive!...
I dunno, I kinda like having some outfits be race specific. This game is really lacking in racial identity .
Well, to be fair, this game is lacking in *many* aspects. Content, crafting content, customization, primals, and more. It’s really up to the devs at the end of the day. For example, so many people want a male Viera, but will they actually do that? I personally don’t think it’ll happen, as much as I would love to see people enjoy using it. SE’s FFXIV division just doesn’t seem to have the same priorities as us.
The one thing I'd really want out of the actual starting gear being unlocked is the Roegadyn/Miqo'te 'gloves' for adding long sleeves to any body item. I hope we can eventually get something similar but generic.
The starter gear would actually work well for Xaela. I'm surprised we didn't see any of the pieces used for any of the tribes, considering what a weird mix of sources they drew from to assemble the different outfits.
"Gear" is not a community-established term (although "glamour gear" to describe Lv1 all-classes gear pieces possibly is). It's used in the game - eg. as in "gear sets" which can include glamour gear.
I can't understand your argument why the hempen sets are somehow "not gear" compared to starter gear. Both are level 1 gear with minimal stats, sold by the same suppliers.
Looking at the stats:
Any starter shirt: DEF = 7/9, MDEF = 15/18
Hempen Camise: DEF = 6/8, MDEF = 13/16
(No, I don't understand why there are two numbers for each stat.)
"Gear" means any equippable clothing item, and the hempen sets function exactly the same as any other gear piece in the game. I'm not sure why you have an objection to the term.
I think you're confusing the terms "homogenisation" and "variety".
Letting everyone wear everything gives an individual character more variety.
Only giving everyone a single option (where that single option looks the same for everyone) gives us less variety.
But right now we already have variety. There are 14 (soon to be 16) varieties of race-and-gender-locked hempen sets, unmixably split up into different strands or sections (Hyur + option A, Miqo'te + option B, etc.). They are heterogenous, the opposite of homogenous. A simple example is water and oil in a container - they're "together" but they don't mix, forming separate layers.
But taking something that is currently heterogenous and mixing it together so the substances are evenly distributed (everyone can now wear everything) is exactly what "homogenisation" means.
That's the male version of the "hempen camise" that's mentioned in the title of the thread. It looks different on all the races, and does tend more towards harnesses than the tank top that male Midlanders get (and is used as the unchanging icon).
Welcome to the pain of a female character who keeps seeing nice pants on icons, then tries them on to find they're yet another miniskirt.
