You could just take the summoner soul stone off and play as a lvl 70 arcanist, I don't see the point in that, but that would get rid of all the summoner aspects of summoner that you don't like.
In RP I can just glamour over the egi with a carbuncle, problem solved.
In terms of actual content, no I'm not going to take the stone off and go into duty finder as an arcanist because gimping myself in that way would be very selfish and a detriment to the group. I may wish that arcanist was its own job separate from summoner, but I'm not going to make other people suffer for it.
When I got FF14 at 2.0 I was hyped to play SMN expecting a job something in the vein of Yuna..... then the realization we get egi....
Now I'm a healer.
If there are Warring Triad summon options I would get over my intimidation of summoners and actually learn to play them.
Also, honestly if there was an option to shift Egis to feel material and have more visual detail that would be really cool. Imo the Ifrit minion looks more like Ifrit than the Ifrit Egi currently. And I mean toy Alexander, OMG, those look fantastic as minions. Having Egis at least be able to visually compete with minions even if they're small seems like it shouldn't be a crazy expectation.
I wouldn't so much mind the egis maybe if they looked better. I don't mind the idea of summons as WoW like warlock pets, but the three egis just look so lame. More glamour options for better looking egis combined with maybe being able to glam bahamut with Alexander, Shinryu, Giga Carbuncle etc could be an interesting way to add more visual variety to the job without having to greatly change the gameplay and spells that already exist.
Totally agree the more summons the more funny to play there were these summons from a game called Megaten Imagine from Cave creator you would have to work for the summons and it was so funny you wouldn't imagine how many you could make with different spells each.
If they could implement a system like that in FFXIV for summoners everyone would be playing summoner.
The MMO was closed so now you can't try it but they made a single player game based on it since PS1 called shin megami tensei.
I wonder how many people would be pacified if summoning Bahamut was given a "Summon [Primal] roulette" treatment? No actual change to the mechanics, just a chance to summon Demi any-primal-you've-beat.
This - I started out as summoner, seeing Carbuncle & being tickled hoping we would get larger summons just like in FF11, only to see another summoner with Garuda & I had actually asked them what mini that was... Decided to not continue summoner & moved onto more satisfying things like Astrologian.
Nah, SMN is not a dificult class to play. It may seem that way, but even with the cluster of mechanics/abilities from ARR/HW/SB (since it may seem to go in diferent directions each one of them) the class is actually easy and rewarding to play. Death punishes a lot on SMN, but once you get how to play it you just roll with it naturally.
maann. that video really brought back memories. I definitely would like to see more egis closer tot he size of Bahamut
Remember Belias Egi from the quest? I still of course would love some more detailed options (more demi, which are a bit like FFXI's) but when I first saw Belias Egi I had hoped maybe some day after we grew stronger that'd be something for us (bit smaller probably lol). Like if you use rouse they gets larger and spur causes new particle / energy effects (so together its a mega pissed off egi).
Of course I wouldn't mind if there was something else especially if the ideas conflict (like a strong upgrade/glamour system) or new rotation mechanics. Just a thought as I went through the quest "ooo... thats nifty".
I like SMN but yeah the summons could be better. I've make longer posts way back talking about my frustrations with SMN's core design and how Egi are not only weak-looking, they're also not good in functionality/game design. Demi-Bahamut was almost there being in the right direction but it also has problems like following you after only two steps, which causes attack interruptions and taking way too long to even use, which makes PvP SMN feel better because it's more frequent.
I just hope in 5.0 they go further with the Demi-Bahamut concept further and just ditch Egis. It's the only hope we have for larger and stronger summons.
Just saw this :'( made me sad. they ruined the summoner potential in ffxiv 100%
