It is some places in the US I think, but I don't think it is any sort of majority.

Earth Day!

Edit: And this is what I get for not reading through the entire thread :p
was already perpared for this and did all my catchup on the holiday weekend so no skin off my nose the others can cry all they want servers will be up tuesday morning.
Because its totally OK to expect a company on the other side of the world to cater to a different Religion's Holiday and delay plans that were made last year.
Yeah sorry, not a valid argument. Japan's main religion is Shinto. Any Holiday SEHQ takes is centered around the special days of that faith. Just like how here in the US we have our special days.
So please excuse a different country for having a different spread of holidays that happens to inconvenience us. But hey, at the time of this post there's only 10 hours still servers are back.
A holiday not officially recognized by all countries; keep that in mind. Easter Monday is not a thing in the US, for example. Everyone got up and went to school/work today like normal.
It’s not SE’s job to cater around holidays—especially those that aren’t even officially recognized in every country.
Take the L. Talk with friends on Discord. Play other games. Read a book. Heck, take a nap. That’s what I prefer to do on my days off. Not whine on the forums that a video game went down for a maintenance announced months ago.
I live in the Bible Belt, and I’ve never heard of Easter Monday being a thing.
Yo guys the server is still not up yet? I thought it's 1800pm to 0300am HRS for the maint? Sorry anyone knows roughly when it will be up ? Thanks ^.^
I love you folks, i really do, but sometimes...
...sometimes...

It was obviously long enough announced when this maintenance is happening so there is absolutly no reason to complain about it. Suck it up and play something else.
I think that everyone understood by now that the US don't have this holiday, too bad for you but that doesn't mean that other countries, yes there are other countries than the US on this planet, don't have a this holiday. :p
The majority of the continent doesn’t have Easter Monday off. It’s not something Square-Enix even considered because it’s not a real holiday.
The only reason I’m pointing out that Easter Monday isn’t a thing in every country is because the OP doesn’t seem to realize it; and they seem to want SE to cater to a specific holiday that isn’t even officially recognized by everyone. That simply won’t work—you can’t cater to everyone’s holidays, so you pick the common ones (e.g., Christmas, New Year’s, Easter Sunday) and go from there. You can’t pick every holiday or random ones that some countries do or don’t recognize. We’d never get anything done if SE tried to cater to every holiday in existence.
While I haven't read the entire thread.....if people are this annoyed about 24 hour maintenance to split the servers, how are they going to feel before early access, when it's at LEAST 24 hours, and can possibly be more, like right before Stormblood.

So in the words we all love to hear:
Please look forward to it
Every. Single. Maintenance.
Yet another reason not to live in any one game. Go clean your house or something, I'm sure it could use it. I know mine could.
So what you're saying is SE shouldn't run maintenance because some people have a day off over a religious holiday that falls on a different date every year, a great deal of the world don't celebrate it, and those that do don't all celebrate it on the same day (Easter is a week later in the Greek Orthodox Church).
Right
I disagree, there is honestly no better time for them to do this than during a content lull several months before the next expansion launches. There is no way they can accommodate every single player on NA servers who just happens to have the day off work, that is literally impossible for them to do.
Sadly can't please everyone. Had they done it tomorrow or yesterday other people would rise up saying "Its a bad time".
Today: It's a bad day
Tomorrow: It's a bad day because in this country it's X
May 8th-9th: It's still a bad day because I'm off work for Y
I think most everyone would agree that Wednesday is the best time to get the painful stuff over with in preparation for the weekend. Isn't Monday painful enough already and any later than Wens too close to the weekend for comfort?!
Today is an observed federal holiday in Canada, an observed holiday in a good number of states in the US.Quote:
Today is a normal work day here in NA
Its also an observed holiday in many European countries, as well as some Oceanic countries.
Being one of the major worldwide observed holiday weekends, its among the stupidest days to have extended maintenance, especially given its the only major observed holiday from January 1 to the end of May.
The date had already been announced, however. What about the people who actually planned ahead based on this maintenance. Imagine if they pushed it randomly just because some people are not fine with it.
And is there a date everyone will agree is fine for a 24 hour maintenance? As far as I know, everyone hates downtime, but it is a necessary evil :)
Easter Sunday isn't observed as a holiday at all in Japan. Easter Monday isn't observed either.
Just because it's observed in some places doesn't mean SE is required to cater to these "some places".
People can find other things to do instead. It's really not the end of the world.
I mean, you can announce you're having a 24 hour down time spanning December 23-24, and you'd probably be considered an absolute moron for doing it then instead of the 16-17th.Quote:
The date had already been announced
Thats pretty much the point of this entire thread. Why in the absolute fuck would you schedule an extended downtime over the ONLY internationally celebrated holiday for that (and other) regions in the first 40% of the year?
I'm annoyed because the announcement was confusing. My wife and I just started playing a short while ago and had a goal before maintenance. We were going to get all the requirements to get a home in-game. We busted our butts the last couple days because the last updated announcement was this:
-----------
In order to reflect data of the North American data center expansion as well as to accompany Patch 4.57, we will be performing maintenance on all Worlds at the time below, during which FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we thank you for your understanding.

The last thing we needed to do was get one more rank, which we planned on doing this morning before the servers go down at 6:00pm. So WHY did the servers go down at 3:00am this morning???? That was an OLD announcement! The newest one was above. Why did they start early?
I didn't know the day after Easter was considered a holiday in NA. I've never gotten it off, and businesses around me are all open.
They didn't start early. There are two separate maintenances going on which overlap.
The NA data center maintenance, which was announced as 3am Mon to 3am Tues PDT. SE had warned us well in advance that it was going to be a 24 hour maintenance.
The patch 4.57 maintenance for all worlds to implement World Visit, which is the time you listed. SE for whatever reason decided to have this maintenance at the same time as the NA data center maintenance (probably to minimize overall down time for the servers).
I'd absolutely agree that they should have been combined into a single announced instead of posting 2 separate announcements if that's your complaint. I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to remind players in my FC and linkshells about the extended maintenance for NA and some of them were confused just as you are.
As I said it was confusing. I always thought that the newest announcement was the correct one. I guess it's not that way in other countries. I'm not the only one that was screwed up by this. The newest announcement was 6:00am, the old one was 3:00am. I, and others, thought it was an amendment.
Generally announcements are static unless a later post specifically says "Correction" or mentions a change. One referred to the NA servers, the other says all servers. I understand the possible confusion but that's been a standard for a while (I also acknowledge you say you're relatively new so maybe that wouldn't have been apparent).
The problem is that it wasn't clear that they weren't an old and a new announcement. They were both different announcements. One for the patch maintenance and one of the data center split. It could've been clearer for sure but at the same time, both announcements did have different titles.
