This is absolutely unacceptable.
I hope you know that your decision is the worst sex discrimination.
FIX IT PLEASE.

If lore is the excuse for no male Viera, what about female Hrothgar/Ronso? Female Ronso exist and have been seen in game. Not the best model ever, but they do exist in lore and we've already seen them. Having no male Viera is just lazy, and an excuse. Like male Viera aren't going to notice that the girls are leaving? What's the lore reason for that? I'd rather they just said something wiped them out, or female Viera were just born from the wood. Instead just 'nobody sees them so, yeah, doesn't matter whats going in the world. Doesn't matter if females are leaving. Male Viera refuse to come out of the hidey hole.'
This is just lazy. It was an excuse to not add Viera. Beastial race is bullshit, since it really doesn't fit in with anything else. There's lore reasons why beast tribes aren't considered to be races, and are considered to be 'beast tribe'. Also there is no way female Viera could count as a beast-like race.
I am disappointed about no male Viera, but I am way more let down by this poor excuse.
Adding my voice to those in favor of Male Viera and Female Hrothgar. Gender locked races ended with 2.0 and should've stayed done there.
If this is sass: Rich coming from a male miqo'te.
If this is not sass: Literally just an "oops expect it in 5.x please look forward to it"
If you don't have a horse in this race why are you trying to drag down those who do?
Sure resources are finite, but they are the "fastest growing mmorpg." I'm willing to bet they can splurge a little. (especially how much they're saving on not having to do a night theme for each zone or work night lighting!)
And they literally didn't have to add a whole other half of a whole other race. They could've just finished the one they announced first. And nothing is stopping them from making any more races outside of the game shutting down or creative bankruptcy.
Use the 'Gender Locked Race?' thread since it already has over 3k replies.
Yes please to male Viera and female Hrothgar!
I want my bunny.
But how are the resources finite? Not saying they aren't, but the amount of time and effort it probably took to create the Hrothgar could of been used to make male Viera. People even requested another dimorphic race with a cute male when Au ra was announced. If you wanna be a cute Male, your stuck playing lala, but girls have more options, again.
Agreed.
The development team's receptiveness regarding Miqo'te and Roegadyn's genderlocked status in 1.0 gave me hope that they listen to their playerbase's requests on self-expression; I think it's important to be able to present yourself as what you'd like in a game that's inherently a power fantasy. That being said, it just feels a bit tone-deaf to repeat the same mistakes made previously under the guise of lore - male moon Miqo'te are rare in lore yet they flourish in-game because people like to play them. Female Hrothgar and male Viera would have felt like natural additions to the game's environment given the story of 5.0 involving shard-hopping and the like.
While I'm still very excited for Shadowbringers and will play it on release, I hope you can give some consideration to your long-supporting players as well!
if this is all it takes for you to quit the game I can image you cared that much about it in the first place.
As a girl playing this game I am *sad*. So sad. Not only for male viera but also for female hrothgar. Is it so much to ask for a non sexualized (and non lala) female race?
And why genderlocking races *again* after ff11? Didn't you learn?
I can't believe this.
Good job, SE, I'm seriously considering unsubbing for the first time since the 2.0 beta over this. Time and time again we've told you what we think about genderlocking, and then you go and genderlock an entire race, and stick to the decision after over a month of watching people freak out over the possibility on these forums and reddit and in-game chats. If it weren't at the cost of male Viera, I'd honestly be happy for the people who wanted Hrothgar also, but getting them instead of male Viera, and not getting female Hrothgar, is absolutely unacceptable, lazy on the dev side and hilariously stupid on the marketing and PR side.
I was planning to go for a physical CE for the first time, but something held me back, and I'm honestly really glad I waited. I haven't pre-ordered any version of the game as of now, and I really don't know if I will. I play on both PC and PS4, so that's two sales lost.
I've been a faithful fan of Square Enix through decades of delayed games and bad business decisions, but this might just be the last straw for me.
how is it homophobic? it sounds like you are, the hrothgar could all be gay for all you know. but because they arnt bunny eared twinks you think its misrepresentation
Where do I post to show my support where "I'm fine with it as is?" opinion?
The problem with that is that the OP of that thread doesn't explicitly support the addition of male Viera as a playable race, so in general people have not been liking the first post. In order to get attention from the community team, ideally you would have a lot of posts/views and many likes on the relevant post showing support for the request.

Registered on the forums for the first time just to come and voice my disgust that we're seeing gender locked races in 2019.
Please reconsider SE, we've been hoping for months for male Viera.
We do not want gender-locked races.
I want male Viera!
Please and thankyou!
This. The big manz and sexy wumenz is some sexist garbage that I honestly thought this dev team was above. Clearly I was mistaken. With not even a new healer, there's really nothing in this expansion to look forward to at all for me. If the expansion after this brings male viera, female hrothgar, and a new healer, maybe that'll bring some hope back to the game for me. This has been the most depressing expansion and fanfest, and I'm disgusted with who ever made these new race decisions.
This is in no way homphobic in the slightest. If it is, it is because you have decided it is such. Simply adding or excluding males of one race and females of another has nothing to do with your avatar's sexuality. The perception of homophobia comes solely from your own projections onto a race that didn't even exist in the game beyond some lore that says they are about as rare as Bigfoot, and your preconceived notions of how the community would treat them. So ragequit if it makes you feel better but just know that that's on you, not the dev team.
Furthermore, your conceptions and outrage have completely blinded you to any sort of reasonable explanation such as professional courtesy to the original creator of Ivalice.
It just seems like a HUGE wasted opportunity to expand on a race that's been so entirely mysterious in every other game it's existed in. There could have been a huge expansion on the lore for Viera by allowing playable males and an opportunity to answer for that mystery. Additionally the way a Viera male operates isn't that unlike male Miqo'te so I don't see it so much as a lore reason but trying to follow tradition.
Not only that but there are definitely female Ronso in FFX and they definitely are out and about in the world. Maybe it will be different for our Shard's version of them, the Hrothgar, but it's still a huge disappointment.
I really hope SE sees people who are so upset by this and fixes it. I'm expecting the huge level of backlash to at least get some response, and maybe one day we will see the races with both genders.
+1, Male Viera needs to be a thing. I refuse to accept gender locked races.
If this doesn't happen; those amazing T3XT00l$ m0dd3r$ will do it for us.
here's to hoping the dev team listens and unlocks female ronso and male viera
Male viera sounds like great idea! Why not make it into reality, I heard there is lot of support for that decision ;)
I actually now curious... where is that 220+ page thread about male Viera and wot not...?
Registered just to plus one this. I wanted a tough tall lady not another member of eyecandy race.
I didn't know I wanted male Viera until I saw their official art on the concept!
While they're at it, it'd be great to get the Butler and Maid outfits gender unlocked! It'd be super cool to see both M!Viera and F!Viera in those Butler outfits!
Ungenderlock the new races. FFXIV made this same mistake in 1.0, it's frankly embarrassing to have this happen again in 2019. Limiting player choice is a godawful idea, and the fact that we now will have a Big Buff Male Beast Race and Sex Doll Animal Ear Female Race at the same time is even worse, since the devs seemingly can't be happy with an effeminate male race and a beast like female race. I can't believe that this kind of homophobic and sexist garbage is going to be in one of the biggest MMOs on the market.
I know it's probably too late in the cycle to address this by 5.0 launch but I think it would be a great service to its fans if Squeenix listened and made the push to include both male Viera and female Hrothgar in a future patch. This does double the amount of work needed for future glamour model creation but it doesn't feel right to have two half races instead of one full race. But since there are two halves already, complete them and give players more options to realize themselves in game.
Unlock implies there is a switch they can flip and suddenly the secret content they were hiding due to their nasty sexism will become available instead of a year or more of dev time to actually create it. Additionally, sexism can be argued but homophobia is solely on anyone's own projections onto the avatars and the devs trying to cater to something that nebulous would never work. There is a conversation here but buzzwords and grandstanding will make sure we never have it.
Definitely very upset that Male Viera and Female Ronso were excluded. I was personally drawn to this game because there was no genderlocked races, and to see it happening now after what happened in regards to 1.0 with Miqo'te and Roe seems like a repeat of a past mistake, and just feels very silly.
Hope to see this corrected sometime in the future.
Maybe lazily sexist, but I don't get where the homophobia is coming from. FFXIV is probably the most homo-friendly mainstream MMOs. Not adding a male race doesn't make them suddenly hate queers.

Its on the front page of the General Discussion forum :p
But yeah, this seems... slightly sexist? Why can't i be a bunny boy? Why can't girls be leopards or tigers or w/e?
I support making Viera and Ronso both as non-gender locked races. They made male Miqos among other changes for 2.0 despite lore so they can do so again. This simply comes across to me as a lack of resources for this expansion that I hope they rectify in the future. Please SE, I need to see bunny boys in my life! <3
