There's also Hien and the vast enjoyment he seems to get out of being the target of interest for male Xaela.

Ew. Terrible rewards. I wasn't expecting anything amazing but these are just... so low effort to the point that it's a bit embarassing.
I...the housing items are nice to look at, the cake would especially look nice in my café (and the mammet is DYABLE) but... even the promo image shows the lalafellin CUL just...crafting lol because that's the only way you'll see the knife.
Also, the promotional page also hints that the maze is making a comeback... I loved doing that last year! :D
The one with the tonberry slaves? I did that one. Rip that mamool ja at the ending cutscene though. That dungeon was about freeing the slaves while the copperbell mines was about killing slaves. I did do the Perfect Woman quest. That one was pretty funny.
From the new event picture though it seems like they might rehash the duty from last year but I don't know. I didn't hate the duty but every time the game paired me up with a guy character he instantly left LOL. But I guess it didn't help when I mentioned "Oh cool we're both guys." Then I had to wait until my hp ran out and duty failed...
On the other hand, there is so much to do in WoW's events (if you want to fully complete one) that you can play all day and still have stuff to do the next day. FFXIV holidays are more bite-sized. These two games have a different approach to seasonal events, both have their pros and cons. Sadly one of the cons for FFXIV's changing events is that sometimes they are not as good as the previous year's. I still enjoy them though, especially for the aspect that they usually don't involve grinding or RNG.
Trash rewards. Garbage. I only hope they add the same mini game from last year. THAT was a good Valentione's Day.
"Love and affection-its not just for couples!"
I don't think it's really implying the elezen and the hyur on the art are gay but if people want to believe that then ok.
They must have forgot about the event and reused the first assets they could think of that were planned for Golden Saucer.
This is true for some holidays, Brewfest can be done in a day as with Winterveil. Only a few holidays have multi-day's worth of things to do that aren't due to a 24 hour lock out. The year up to Legion was the most active I'd seen these events since Vanilla and yeah... they died again because we pretty much did everything. I prefer the model of each year they change it up with new stories and rewards. I will admit I am glad I don't need to farm/grind current content to just to try and get a Santa hat. (which wouldn't be so bad if WoW was even a half way decent game anymore)
Given the lore of Nym, it's so fitting that we see a Lalafell wielding the Tonberry Knife.
I tend to prefer SE's event style too, although I would really like to see a traveling circus like Darkmoon Faire. Was hoping SE took inspiration from the group that travels around the winning cities in FFXI and mix that in with elements of like Darkmoon (and their own twist of course).
Dear DRK's,
We are so sorry we made you utter schite for an entire expansion compared to your tanking brethren. Please accept our humblest apologies with an exclusive great sword obtained during this year's Valentione's holiday event!
Sincerely,
The Dev team

/facepalm
In all seriousness, if they would have made that sword to reflect the valentine's theme with a heart shaped pommel, elegant blade design, and/or giving it a pink-ish hue I would have been all over it. The event rewards of late are like giving vegetables to the Cookie Monster. I honestly believe the dev team has grown tired of having to put these events together. Not much time passes between them, and when they are on the horizon, they are probably sitting back saying, "The next event? Already?!"
That's a lot of hearsay, but it's definitely the vibe I feel. I really miss the days when events were so fun, I would continue to do them even after obtaining the rewards. Now it's, "Let's just get this over with so I can continue catching up."
While it would have been nice to have more general reward like an outfit as well, I support class specific rewards being a thing. I’d like to see rewards for specific jobs that fit for them without SE feeling pressured to create 15 other thematic weapons for “fairness” sake.
That said, gigas sword looks really bland and not really thematic for valentines at all. Not sure where that came from. Maybe testing the waters of adding job specific rewards with some junk weapons to see the kind of backlash they get for it?
These rewards are pretty terrible. I think this will be the first even I'll skip!
If they released heart shaped weapons for all the jobs that would have been nice! Or maybe an emote like kiss or holding hands idk...
We've spurned Dark Knight thus far, why can't we keep doing it!?!?! /s of course lol
I think it would have been nice if we could have that pink mammet as minion as well, that responds to dote emote (hearts appear above their head or something).
Just to sort of "everyone gets something", "some of you get something special", "house owners get stuff". To be clear I'm not against some class specific rewards, just think it might be good to make sure everyone (like a minion or "all" item) is part of the reward (houses are not for everyone because.. well they're not enough for some servers, too expensive for some, or not in the right place or size for others lol).
Oh ho ho, next valentines day we get introduced to Yotsuyu's little sister - please look forward to it.

Did one of the developers get stabbed in the back by their spouse this year or something? lol... ahh well. Can't really beat 2x mounts from last year no matter what you do. Would have been nice to have the CUL be a mainhand glam though.
Oh good. x2 new consumable food items that we'll only be able to buy for $5 per item on the Mogstation after the event is over. -__-;
SE, seriously, if you're going to put seasonal food housing items in the game then for the love of all that's housing... PUT THEM ON THE SEASONAL VENDOR TO RE-BUY.
Someone was saying they're positive the rewards are bad this year to force people to buy last year's rewards from the cash shop just so they'll get something decent.
I pointed out if the goal with the seasonal event rewards is to encourage players to buy the previous year's items from the cash shop, SE has blown it big time for next year because no one would pay real money for either the sword or the knife.
Last year's rewards were completely uninteresting to me. I have absolutely no need or use for a half-a-heart chair mount that is designed to be used alongside another person. I did the quest on only one of my characters, and didn't even bother activating the mount. I just stuffed it in my retainer's inventory and wish I could properly discard it.
I think the complaints about "Why aren't the stabby things even thematically appropriate?" are kinda funny.
Like, maybe wait to see what the story is before judging?
Because a Valentine's event that rewards stabby things sounds to me like it could be pretty amusing.
I’ll treat this event as no-reward quest.
The story better be good.
Just wish that tonberry nice was for Paladin and we got a matching hoodie and tonberry mask so we could look just like them and stab our enemies to death. Imagine the 100s of lalafell that would dress like that! XD ....I'm a make my own glam based off this. 8T
I'm a bit disappointed with the quest rewards, however I look forward to adding some more housing items! Hopefully the story makes up for shellack of decent rewards.
The main problem with food furnishings is once you place them they cannot be removed from that house. At best they can be stored. Another issue is you can't set permissions for others with access to the house to be unable to use the food. I have heard of incidents in which a fc member ate all of the stacks of event food and it couldn't be bought again until it reappeared in the Mog Station several months later. They basically destroyed a furnishing that couldn't be replaced for a very long time.
So what the above means is you might have to buy quite a lot if you want to make sure you don't run out. There is a lot of event food in the game. It adds up fast.
I'm at the point in which I am annoyed when SE give us food furnishings for events. They're awkward to store and unless you are the only resident in your home someone else can literally ruin the furnishing. SE need to give us an option to prevent others from eating it, or to turn the food into a normal furnishing without storage limitations and cannot be consumed.
This year's event rewards are disappointing to me and a large reason why is the food. I don't play drk and I only lvled cul to get cross-class skills so I don't care about the class-based rewards. What's left for me are the furnishings but two out of three are food...so basically the doll is the only thing I can actually look forward to getting. Yay.
I would have been fine with a minion. Valentines and hevensward are the the only events that dont have one.
i'm not impressed with this years valentione's day rewards. the drk weapon doesn't look that great, the tonberry knife (while neat in concept) feels wasted being used as a CUL off-hand, and both look more like mgs prizes than actual seasonal event rewards. the food, while looking nice, is yet another case of "limited time food furniting, either place it and hope no one eats it or hope no one tries to remove it". the doll is okay, i guess?
While I just stopped playing it - since you asked - WoW's event has the same items each year unless they add something. It also has two mounts and a title that you can try for and purchas, and if you do certain achievements as part of a meta achievement, eventually you can get another mount, too.
Things in their Love is in the Air holiday that you can obtain:
Title of the Love Fool
Bouquet of Ebon Roses offhand
Love Rocket Mount - low RNG drop from holiday dungeon
Swift Lovebird - purchased from vendor with holiday currency
Cosmetic head items
Neck armor items
2 shields
3 toys
1 pet
1 shirt
and an item which lets people click on it and dress up in dinner suits temporarily.
I think that's everything. I had heard that there were going to be new things added this year, but can't confirm that because they haven't updated the guide on their 3rd party website yet.
As it stands, I love FFXIV and look forward to participating in the event this year. I do wish that there were at least an outfit or minion - if not a mount like last year - but hopefully that means that the other holiday events will offer even better items. It's probably not their focus with a new expansion looming, but it would be nice if they could give more holiday-specific rewards.
2017 Valentione's had a minion https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...lentiones_Day/
2015 Heavensturn had a minion https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...5/Heavensturn/
I get the feeling this is meant to be a test of the idea of glamouring crafter off-hands. The issue here is they opted to try it on the one you see the least.
Its underwhelming, to say the least... maybe the next event will have something decent. but I doubt it at this point.
