A chakram would be cool. Like Tira from Soul Caliber
We don't have throwing weapons yet and there's a lot of Chakram type weapon names they could draw from.
Valkyrie
Rising Sun
Oritusuru
Conformer
Boomerang
Cardinal
Moonring Blade
Pinwheel
Shooting Star
You guys do realize this is the healer section and the thread at hand is about Dancer?
Besides most players that have wanted/want Dancer in FFXIV want it as a healer, past FF games it was able to offer some form of heals.
As for DPS, why? We have enough dps jobs until 6 or 7.0
Anyhow, this was just my opinion just like both of you that quoted me have the right to yours...

That concept is basically what I'm hoping for, or at least draws from it. Really though, just a healer Dancer would be enough.
I don't expect them to be in melee at all if they are a healer, however. It doesn't really fit in with the broader concept of a fantasy dancer, though there's certainly some wiggle room for it given FF's previous titles. The main reason is simply because of what is expected of healers in fights in this game. They stay away from the frontlines, but support the party from the middle, which does fit Dancer perfectly.
Even the wiki says they were essentially front line healers.
I can very easily visualize them being healers with some melee attacks in FFXIV.
Dancer wont be a healer role.... they have a major problem trying to balance the 3 healers we currently have.... or did people forget the mess in heavensward between the healers
Dancer will most likely be a Support role like bard/Mach to balance out bard abit more..... bard have a total of 11 support skills where mach only have 5 and i would like dancer to take away bards "crit up on songs and battle voice" away from bard and put them on dancer
Mach = Physical support
Bard = Magic Support
Dancer = Buff Support
Mach
Hyper charge / Dismantle/ refresh/ tactician / palisade
Bard
Foe Reqium / Troublejor / Palisade /tactican/ refresh
Dancer
Song buffs 3% crit / Battle voice / palisade / tactican / refresh
this way we have split up the 3 range support base on your group
mach = drg/war/ninja/mnk/drk/sam
bard = smn/blm/rdm/sch/pld
dancer = mixture of caster/physical
dancer suites the support role a lot more then a healer role because when you look in game we have the following
tanks = 3
healers = 3
Melee = 4
casters = 3
support = 2
Solo = 1 (blue mage)
the odd ones are caster and support roles.... so garentee the new job in 5.0 will be a caster or support job..... And no its not gunblade there is a major reason why thancred is using a garleon gunblade which is a MCH weapon to help him use aether since he has NO aether inside him (poor guy cannot even teleport or wield magic anymore)
They'd be crazy not to introduce a new tank and healer, its been 4 years since we've had any.
And the leaker was right about blue mage so there's no reason to doubt them about the gunblade tank job and dancer as a healer.
Meh, I wouldn't call the current state of healers a major problem. It's definitely not so far out of whack that they can't bring in another healer. If they want to keep WHM as is, all they need to do is make it the SAM of healers, and not let SCH or AST even compete with their personal damage output. Done.
How DNC would fit in would matter most in relevant content. Content will be designed around its abilities and all the new abilities introduced for our current jobs. For everything else, it simply needs to be able to get the job done, and that's ezpz for the dev team.
Not to mention the outrage if more DPS jobs are introduced in the next expansion when healers and tanks have gone the last two years without a new one. It would literally be better to not bring in DNC at all if it isn't brought in as a healer.
I *personally* don't care if we get a new healer for Shadow, but, it really seems very unlikely their won't be a healer. DNC could be a dps if they were going to shock everyone with a third job, which seems highly unlikely. But in the end, it's all "wait and see", including how the new jobs will be conceptualized for gameplay.
It's highly unlikely that Dancer will be a ranged support dps that's akin to Machinist and Bard. That is the least fitting role for them. A Dex-based melee DPS that's analogous to NIN (whose numbers fit a support DPS, albeit a melee one) or a Healer are the most likely options, and of the two, Healer is deigned to be more likely on these forums due to the connection to FFXI (and it's the Healer forums), but I personally doubt that it will be a melee-range Healer, if it is a Healer at all. We have yet to see what will happen.
Maybe it would share gears and weapons with ninja class, solving a lot of problems. Pugilist level 30 might also be required. See: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/D...nal_Fantasy_XI) for the ideas. They use dual wield daggers for weapons.
Nataraja (dancing form of shiva) a fearless celebration of the joys of dance while being surrounded by fire, untouched by forces of ignorance and evil, signifying a spirituality that transcends all duality.
That embodies a healer archetype.
The Zar, the healing dance of the Middle East/northeastern Africa.
The bushmen in Southern Africa have healing dances.
Dance played/plays a significant role in the healing rituals of indigenous Americans.
Dance is being used as a treatment for ptsd.
Just a few examples, I’m sure I missed some.
They've gotten rid of class requirements for other jobs so I doubt they'd ask for PUG for anything other than MNK in future. As for equipment, it's not outside the realm of possibility it would use Scouting, but that would skew things like loot drops and maybe even balance as they'd have a much easier access to Direct Hit and less to Piety. Loot drops is something they're at least considering since we had that greed only alliance rule a while back. It fell through, but it shows they're looking into it somewhat. Having one healer rolling on DPS gear would make things really awkward.
Well we got rid of the TP-based healer now, so Dancer could pretty much be a casting healer and use that gear. Healers must have access to Piety (at least in current stat pattern), so sharing a DPS gear would not make sense in that regard.
I'd see the dancer focused on channeling healing spells and positionning. So a mobile healer that would have to stay close or facing targets right to be able to unleash good healing and that would have some good mobility to help... add some instants healing for "oh shit" situations and you're done.
For the weapon i would have seen : Dagger in the main hand and a fan as a spell focus.
well with tp going every job might like piety who knows if do dancer can go on scouting be interesting to see
?
However, none of the caster DDs has access to piety, so why should all jobs use piety when TP is gone, when not even the current casters use that stat?
Furthermore piety is the role exclusive stat for healers. It would be strange when they add a healer wich does not have his exclusive stat on the gear, but has with direct hit a stat wich does not affect healing at all.
There are also the healer role actions:
Largesse increases healing magic potency by 20%
Cleric Stance increases attack magic potency by 5%
Swiftcast and Surecast only affect casts
Lucid Dreaming is a MP regeneration tool
Then there are Break, Protect and Esuna, wich are all casts wich costs MP
In other words: Everything healer related caters to casters who use MP. They have to rework a lot to fit a non caster healer in.
Agreed. But Esuna costs as little as 600 MP@level 70. Protect and Break doesn't have any MP cost. But that doesn't change the fact that healers now are basicly casters (all of them are Disciples of the Magic).
An healer who's Disciple of the War would really means some major rework.
LB should be summoning a pole and then pole dancing to heal the party.
i hope the achievements are "Private Dancer I-VI" lol
We’ll need to wait and see what the system for MP is gonna be like at the next Fanfest, since by Japanfest they should probably be teasing jobs and going over new mechanics coming soon.
