We understand that some players prefer to speak thier own language instead of english.

However, to be able to play and communicate in the game, you would need the minimum skills. Even a broken english will work. Not only that, infact, even players that dont like to speak english will still be able to play.

Take your case for example, you are a frensh guy and according to you "french people speak french period ^^". Yet here you are disccusing this post in english, pretty good solid english too. Not to mention the english games you prolly got at home.

French ppl will speak french only between them in their french LS but if they know you didn't speak French at all, they will speak with you in English. It's make sense.

The only reason you're able to say that is because a vast number of players in FFXIV speak English. But if a server has a vast number of French speaking players, English isn't a requisite.

Point being if World10 has a ton of EU players, English isn't needed.

At what point would English not be needed? It'll still be the most popular language if I took a guess, Frence and German people would prob. speak english to each other, also EU players does not = Frence/German, it includes many others of which the biggest would be English

Right, because EU players all speak European..NOT.
GB is a huge part of Europe, they speak English. And even if there were only French and German players on the server, how do you think they will communicate with each other? Way more Germans speak English than French.
Way more French people speak English than German. Obviously they'd chose English to communicate with each other.
And there are so many other languages in Europe, like Spanish and the languages of all the Nordic countries..

The most widely spoken mother tongue in the EU is German, while 51% of adults can understand English.

So you don't "need" English - you can probably get by with German.

For some reason Finnish are felt unfriendly even in most cases we are friendly people and like foreign cultures. Maybe it's our history to stand on the border.

I would say most people who can speak german live in germany, austria and switzerland.

I will move to world 10 and hope for the best. Worst case it will have a low population but attract many new EU players at the re-launch.

Think I will wait til 2.0 to move to the EU server.

Eeep! Didn't mean to start an argument here, sorry! Maybe I need to emphasis the 'not very common'. I run into many many (hundreds?) of French young adults who do not speak English at all (or just a few words). Perhaps those in University or living in the major cities may be more proficient, but my experience still shows that it is not 'common'. In other words: Do not take it for granted.

Saying all that, I would welcome a French/German server so I did not have to speak English all the time.

I am really hoping for a lot of EU people in one server. I am norwegian btw, so just wondering what server are all the scandinavians joining?

Part of me wishes SE would do a poll for EU players to see how many will transfer.

I don't want to transfer to server 10 and be worse off because of low population.

Yea yea I know Yoshi-p said we can second transfer if the population is bad but that doesn't mean we will get back to the server we left before.

Yeah my EU Ls doesn't want to go to the EU server either.

Atm my EU LS Kweh is considering server 1, but if no one goes to server 10 (which is EU) tha kinda beats the entire purpose of it.

Our EU LS doesn't want to go to 10. This is what I was saying at the start of this thread, collecting one one server never happens. Cornelia at the start of the game was suppose to be the "EU server".

Excellent, I'll have to look for them. I am in NA but often end up playing EU prime time hours. Looks like I was wrong, glad to see SE was finally able to consistently and clearly articulate the plan.

keep in mind only players who transfer there will be there. there is no starting population.

We have quite a bit of EU players in my shell, I hope they dont leave for the EU server because they are all kick ass. Though I can see the attraction of it.

Not sure if there is any other of us in there... <.<

I for one am a French player and have no intention whatsoever to move to Server 10. I will be sticking it through thick and thin with my Lindblum linkshells and whatever may come my way. Playing with other EU members is not worth me losing the community of players I have come to know and trust.

Besides...it's not like there are many "linkshell events" demanding a large group of players from any specific time zone as is. This isn't FFXI where HNMs were on major timers nor is lvling hard or challenging in any way so as to demand a "static group" to grind with. Lastly, despite me being in Paris France, there are always Americans and Japanese players on when i'm on.
