The solution to your problem is, again, a "Server transfer," limited probably by either a real money cost, or a limit on how often you can transfer. Not uprooting an entire server. I'm sorry that you are displeased with so large a percentage of your server's population, but many of us are not.

First of all, I shouldn't have to pay money to get away from the people on the server I dislike; I understand that's the 'MMO Model,' but this game is as far from the model as it is. How about this for an option: Everyone gets to scatter for free, but if you want to transfer with a lump sum of people, you have to pay, or you get a restriction to however often you can do it?

There's a lot of nonsense on these forums still. I could add a lengthy response, but instead I'll just list a couple of points.

- The merge probably won't be altered at this stage. You may continue to voice your valid opinion about why "___ method is a more appropriate alternative," without tearing down SE's and everyone's whom varies to yours. I know, sketchy.

- In the event that SE doesn't listen to your demands/requests, if these people to whom you share a connection with really matter to you, then do as instructed by SE. Follow them on the lodestone. Add them to your personal ls friendlist. Jot them down in a notepad document. Talk to them in game and try and work out some sort of cohesive understanding of everyones destination. Add them to alternative communication applications. (If this honestly bugs you so much that you have to respond with something abrasive and whiney as "I shouldn't have too!", then you've missed the point entirely. You should want to. They are your friends right?)

There's plenty of time between now and the merge. Both phases. Maybe, just maybe, SE will get the hint and change their tactics, but if they don't, instead of vehemently complaining and being a raging penis, you could use the plethora of time before you constructively, and work out solutions as best you can.

Thanks for being heartless. My friends aren't all in my linkshell, luckily every person on trabia I have spoken to so far wants to all, unanimously join the same server as each other.

Unsubbed people will be 'distributed' across the servers as far as the notice states.

I didn't suggest that you should have to pay for a transfer. That would be up to this hypothetical thread I've asked you to create that didn't trample over a lot of people based on you and some others' wants (I don't have accurate stats on who wants what any more than you do, so I'll say "some others"). You seem to think that you being happy cannot coexist with me being happy. And you obsess over the three words "real money cost," when I said "probably by either...or..." If they announced which servers would, by default, move to which new servers, I think most people would follow it even if there was an opt-out feature for free, just for people like you. :)

It seems that the people who disagree with what i'm saying do not have close relationships with numerous varied peoples, spanning multiple linkshells and groups. Just look at the forums, clearly a large percentage of the population is not happy at all with the way things are being done. Bully for you if the change doesn't affect you, but it affects lots of us.

I'm paying for a service. I'm entitled to voice my opinion as you are yours. I don't want to be split up from my friends. Is this really such an outrageous statement to be ridiculed over? Yeah, I could add all my friends on facebook, but what's the point if I can't play FFXIV with them. This isn't about RL. This is about the people I interact with on FFXIV, I have reliable groups of people, I can call on to help me, and me them with various aspects of this game.

There is no guarantee a new group of people will provide that same friendship and support in a game that I pay to play.

I am angry, so are lots of people. Feel free to make a post about how much your love the way things are being done, see how that goes.

I'm in quite large social shells, end-game, and static. I'll feel bad for losing those shells and the community that was there, but at the end of the day, my small group of close friends in mumble, and in-game, are going to be the decision maker.

Think about the way in which you portray yourself to understand why you're getting so many posts that are attacking though, and it will become clear. You're on the defense for no reason here. That chart is how it should be, that way those who will come back are not seperated I know a lot of people are still in wait and see mode.

Keep in mind, merging servers isnt all about jsut doing a "good deed" for the players on low pop servers, not running extra servers lowers maintance costs for SE.
I'd bet their main intent is to cut costs not to improve the standards of the current playerbase with this move.
The way SE set up this merger is imo one of the worst ways I've seen and they might as well done a full character wipe for as far as I am concernded.

Hey Bongeh, and all of you on Trabia.. My LS(Conviction) as well as most of the top LS's will be working together to try and find a new home for us. Were thinking 7(7rabia). Before the merge actually happens im sure there will be shouts regarding this. Some will not follow suit, but i believe many will. It is very important for those of us that have created bonds to stay together. I do think it is just as important to create new ones as the game progresses.

This isn't at all an attack. I genuinily want to hear how we could have both, as you say. It seems to me that by giving everyone the option to move where they want, along with the time to collaborate on who is going where, they HAVE given you both. As opposed to just slap dashing 2 servers together and hoping for the best. Explain how that is fair to the french and german people that have no one to talk to on the server they are on, but now have a place to go that increases their play experience. I see a lot of poeple commenting that they want it BOTH ways, but as of yet, no one has been able to offer a real suggestion as to how everyone (globally, not just in north america) can have their cake and eat it to.

Unsubscribed people are not part of the player base, so they don't have any say as what should happen to the accounts they are not paying for. Accounts are actually property of SE that we pay them to use. People who are not subscribed do not have posting access on the forums to voice their invalid opinions of a game they do not support.

Why are people more concerned about people who will probably never play again, compared to what is actually good for the future of this game?

Make new friends, did you guys even play old school mmos, there are guilds that have lasted 16 years hoping from game to game, some of us who are older would rather find a group of friends around our age, stay with those people and maybe hop to another game with them because we click. I literally hate everyone in FFXIV except for the ls members in my ls's and the people on my friends list. Sure I've been on the same server with the same people since CE so I've had time to develop this hate of the new "memememememe gimme me me me" generation of mmo players.

SE doesn't know HOT to foster a community, they eff'd up with XI, they server merged right before releasing a major expansion, So it looked like they were merging smaller servers together (at least we got names) log in to Valefor one day and its all kujata people, they've just overtaken my whole server, and how they operated there server WAS different.

A lot of you with no emotional attachment to the friends you have now, what are you, a solo player, or just heartless?

AND why do you say "people that will never play again" personally I have friends who won't be playing till a preset date, that's due to college, work, or whatever, there lives are hard right now, in time they won't be. Some people won't come back till 2.0. But they are coming back. I don't just play mmos with people I only talk to in game, I talk to these people on facebook, text messaging, or I know them IRL. I just love how everyone assumes they know what they're talking about but has there head up their ass.

I agree SE should have done it as 1 server to another as a forced merger. At the current time players should not have the option to choose what server they want to go to. If a forced merger was the only option yes we would lose the linkshell group that players are in, but we would all be on the same world after a forced merger, and could in fact find the players we normally play with or what not. As SE has given players the choice of servers we already know some will go to the same server others will not for whatever reason. Now that being said and players can choose what server, it seems very likely that some servers will in fact have more players than others. It would also seem that this will also create the same issue we have now to a certain degree, unless SE has something else in mind when completeing the mergers, and or a way to counter this effect so that all servers are as equal in population as possible. We could be trying to solve 1 issue but in fact SE could be making the same issue over again by giveing the players a choice of servers.

Phase 1: Merge servers, 2-3 into 1, until they get 10 servers with near balanced numbers.

Phase 2: Once transfers are made, 2 weeks later (giving people a chance to settle and decide if they like the new people they've been introduce to, along with their old friends. Open up server selection transfers, for those that wish to commune together on an FR/DE server etc.

I dont understand why that is difficult to grasp

Because forcing people to merge then giving them the option to move will undo the balancing of the servers as you mention above. Lets say they do what you suggested above. What happens when an entire linkshell decides the merge sucked, tries to move 50 or more people, and not everyone gets in? Better yet, how does the above suggestion become fair to those that would like to play on a server with a higher population of people that speak their language? If you merge 2 server with 12 french speaking people on them each, thats not really helping the issue at all. Even after doing so, its not like they would have any idea what server they should then choose afterwards to increase ther chances. I just think the issue itself is much more complex than both sides are making it out to sound. Slap dashing 2 servers together has just as many issues as the way they are currently going about it. They chose one, and it just happens to be one some people don't agree with. I think the best thing we can do is use this next month to organize ourselves the best we can so that everyone gets the most out of it. I would spend less time complaining about what won't be changed and more time changing things that are within my realm of control. I think in the coming days and weeks we will see a number of threads open up that have servers organizing themselves for the move. That, to me anyway, seems better than giving some people no option at all.

Also, it was my understanding that all of this is only temporary until the new servers are developed for 2.0, but I could be wrong.

The best solution is to show us what the New World # are going to be named before we make the decision. That way anyone who's already on one of the 10 most populated servers, can just choose to port to the new incarnation. Everyone else has to pick.

It's a bit too late for SE to go back to the drawing board on their implementation, but if with the huge outcry on all language forums, we may see some kind of change. I feel like what I proposed is the easiest, least obstacle laden course of action, but everyone usually tends to feel that way about their own opinion.

Honestly it's a vocal minority. The more I talk to people on Saronia, the more I come to realize that most people are just excited to be starting in a new place with enough people to make the whole ecosystem work =)

It's great that we have been heard and he makes a good address of the issue. There is a chance they will change the current plans.

These were the options: Personally I like ② the best out of all of them... This way we can stay together and still give those people who want to go somewhere totally different the choice! ... for all the reasoning in the post this one just screams out at me as the obvious best choice.

①A + B⇒A World to merge with B World
②A + B - X ⇒A World to merge with B World, except people that would like to move are able to choose a different World
③A + B - C ⇒A World to merge with B World, except people that would like to move are able to choose to go to C World
④Prepare 10 Worlds, set a limit, and give everyone the power to move their characters to a World of their choice.

Of course you do. You're on Gysahl, a high pop server. You won't be the "little guy" coming in and trying to fit in. If Saronia merged with Gysahl, it wouldn't be a new community. It would be Saronia trying to coexist with Gysahl. It'd be the same story if I took the option to transfer elsewhere; Server B trying to coexist with Server A.

Option 4 is the best choice because it creates new, cohesive communities-- not a coexistence. I do empathize with your desire to resist change and stay with what you're used to, but a new community is better for everyone overall. You can make something new and better with new faces. It's really not as bas as people are making it out to be.

I have been playing since launch. I never played beta but from what i hear at launch was just like beta. And it was full of ui lag. Poor tutorial. But I still played. I was actually quite into the game. Leveling up all i could. Basically all disciplines of hand, and land, and magic. I was not really bothered by all the lame nonsense. Item's not stacking high enough, UI lag, Transportation issues, no quests just leves just to name a few.

I believe several weeks after launch. SE came out and said basically we know this game is bad but we will fix it please be patient with us. I heard this and was utterly impressed and glad. They where not going to charge me a sub. and let me play this game as they make it better. As the months have rolled through one after the other, after the several players polls and live interviews, and the updates and letters on the lodestone. I for one have not had any bad thoughts on how the game is progressing. It may be lil slow in coming because of the excitement and anticipation of the new stuff. But it doesn't bother me.

I trust Yoshi. He has not let me down. There are many people that will agree with me in saying he is awfully too nice to the lot of you. You really do not deserve all the creativity and hard work him and his team are doing for us. You don't take any of that into consideration. All I hear whenever some new information comes out is people griping and complaining. It really is annoying. I log onto lodestone to check the news and see the server merge and i was like oh great the forums are going to go nuts today. I look at them and WTF 2 pages full of complaining and whining.

I typically use the forums to comment on some ideas that are actually good and should be atleast looked at by the devs. But lately all i do when i log on is look at mass amounts of crying. It just makes me not want to even log in and browse the forums.

Exactly man. Not to mention that most of the people on here complaining about this method could give a shit what happens to the few French or German players that have no one on their server to talk to. They stated that as one of the main reasons why they chose option 4 in the initial letter, and everyone convieniantly chose to overlook that while raging. Thats why I am glad they just made a decision instead of taking a player poll about it. I don't want most of the people raging in these world merger forums making any decisions on my behalf.

Got to be able to adapt, man. You might lose out on some old friends but I'm positive if you are a social person you'll find others. It's hard to do when you're level 50 all over the place, I'll admit, but keep your mind open and attitude unsalted and you should be fine.

With destruction comes creation. Hopefully this server merge creates a better and bigger community.
