Many LS's from different servers are choosing to stay together by claiming server numbers. Like the example above Selbina (5elbina) is moving to server 5. The 5 looks like an 'S'. And so on and so forth for many. (Trabia > 7rabia)
You should speak to your Linkshell members to determine if you want to move together as a group ^_^
Eh, not following that naming schema. 3utai makes sense and all, but I think I'll stick with #7 for obvious reasons. Going to be a bitch to get everyone I know on the same page seeing as several of my friends belong to different linkshells.
Actually that most probably isn't going to happen. From what I gather SE went "Okay so we got about 8000 active players. We want about 1000 players per server, so let's reduce it to 8 servers, each one capped at 1000 players. That way, we get 1000 players in each server!"
Remember, those numbers came from my... Secret number stash, and do not correspond to factual numbers, but take into mind the proportions
There is no balance in names being hidden! If I can't see the name, I'm just going to pick server 1 like half the total community. That doesn't sound like balance.
This annoys me. I'd like them to name the servers now and allow people already on the server with that name to remain on them. This way of doing it is a complete kick in the gysahl greens.

How is this rational or at all explained? There is no balance with this. Servers are already being claimed by the whole community from existing servers. What if said server is maxed out? I'm FORCED to then give up on my LS? My friends I've made who has helped me thus far?
I'm infuriated as well. Being forced to transfer is NOT my idea of rational.
First and foremost the reason they're doing this is to try and even out the servers. Do any of you want to play on a server that's a ghost town? I'm going to guess that most of you will say no to this. How should they achieve their goal of more even distribution?
Is it really so important that you end up on your *insert favorite name here* server that you'd forsake people who'd like to have more then a handful of people to play with?
So what is in a name really. They gave you numbers, Tell friends and family, your LS's and friendslist to decide on a server, like server 9 or something. if your really worried about RP, why not use there very forums to organize the migration, those interested in RP will listen and move. I know it may sound tough but alot of people love to RP, it all starts with you> How much action are you willing to take to get what you want. You cannot change that there are going to be server merges, but you can change what servers you select, so get it together you have qhite a bit to organize this. Spend this time thinking of getting what you want, and not complaining about how surprising this is. I have faith you will all band together and find a solution.

I think your overthinking this, I am pretty sure by march they will have elaborated on how it will work and even give the server names. despite what everyone rages about with posts , SE really dosnt let us down that much. everyone thinks its the end of the world when they implement X but when ti happens everfyone ends up happy with X. besides the migration to the 2.0 servers were gonna be like this anyways, if anything it gives you a what to expect feeling and it lets SE notice and correct any difficencies tehy encounter with a server merger/Transfer. All in all things will be fine
I do not call that balanced. I also do not believe that's what is going to happen. They have stated that you will be able to switch during a period of time. If your LS gets on a server that fills up and decides to leave you behind maybe they didn't like you very much. If you really think that everyone is just going to randomly pick 1 then 2 then 3 and so on... I think you've not taken a very close look at the forums today.

I would like to offer some insight into why we decided not to display the World names.
The operations and development teams held many internal discussions regarding how the Worlds were going to be merged. We discussed displaying the World names and allowing players to choose their destination and we also considered having some Worlds dissolved and merged into other existing worlds.
We did consider deciding on the World names beforehand, but the problem is that players often choose which World to go to based on its name (to be more specific, currently both Selbina and Gysahl are highly populated due to the popularity of the World names).
Therefore, when merging 18 servers into 10, you can imagine that there will be a rush to choose the Worlds that have popular names. These would fill up quickly and we would have to stop letting people in, and then it would end up being something of a lottery. Taking into consideration the time difference and what day etc, it was really hard to decide, but as we are making playing together as a community a priority, we have decided to hold back the World names and let people choose this way.
We are aware that some players may be frustrated at this, and we apologize for that but please try to understand our reasoning. We haven’t decided which World will get what name yet. For, things like drawing lots and other methods, we want to think about this separately.
Which is perfectly logical and what some people have been saying all along but well...
I would prefer it if we could see the world names before the merge, if for example I end up on one with a name based on FFXIII I will be really unhappy because that was by far the FF I least enjoyed, as people have said I see the server name as an extension of my character name. From what has been said by Rainhart (sp?) I believe the Japanese side also agree.
There will be the possibility of numbered servers filling up when we choose for people that are too lazy to go down the list, and if I cant play with my ls because of it I will be very annoyed.
At the very least take this feedback into consideration. Asking alot of people to choose thier server based on a number is like asking them to choose thier character name based on a random number.
I am perfectly fine with not knowing the new name of a server. Still a bit worried about how they are merging servers together though.
Fair argument; will it be the same for new players who buy the game after the merge?

People feel passionate about something, lets remove the reason to be passionate and stick them with some random shit they don't want rather than what they want. I get the reasoning but its flawed, 1 and 2 gonna be a lottery folks, and its in direct opposition with everything I've known of this game in the last year. I am constantly defending this game to people and the one thing I could always rely on was a dev team that was sympathetic to the players and this has seriously ruined that in my eyes.
I just its baffling to me. Choose your Grand Company and nation based off what you love but SE knows best on this?
For those going its fine the way it is, would it really bother you if it said names? Really are you that concerned if a server is just slightly higher?
its just a server name who chars what its called as long as you are still with friends thats all that matters tbh they should just keep it numbers to avoid it all
What I don't understand is, why you're making people choose at all?
I mean, without server names available, there's no real point.
Why not just merge low population servers with mid and high population, then change the name from there? It's not like we'd be any more upset with what names you choose for that than the names you choose for these servers we're randomly picking. I already have to drop one of my linkshells because they're choosing a different server than my main linkshell.
What's the point of that?
To me at least, a server name is nothing more than a tool that makes you more or less favorable to picking a certain world. I don't see whats keeping someone from starting a thread that says, SERVER NUMBER 5 WILL BE THE UNOFFICIAL RP SERVER. I mean, once your on the server, how often do you use your server name in conversation throughout your time playing the game. If anything, this gives people that want to play on a RP server but didn't go to besaid because they didnt know what it was the chance to join up. Instead of posting a thread complaining about something that isn't going to change, why not start one now while you have time that brings the people together that share your view onto one of the new servers? You certainly have a few weeks to get that going, and from the posts I have read in other OP's, there are a TON of people that would get onboard with that. Try to focus more on ways to turn what you perceive as a negative into a positive. As long as you accomplish your goal, who really cares what they end up naming the server?
Wedge let me level with ya here, ill see it everyday associated with my character, every time i log in, and every time Im talking to people ya know, outside of game. What we are focusing on is reversing this before you know, we get stuck with something we don't like.
