[Request] Add alternative methods to getting old Feast rewards

It's a competition. Not everyone gets a prize. Wolf collars were introduced so people who participated in a season but did not place Top100 got a reward too. Those rewards not only represent that you made it to Top100. Those rewards also represent each season. So bringing them into another season is just...

The class balancing as of right now is pretty good and you see every class being played in top tiers.

There's one thing I agree on with non-Feast-people and that's Feast rewards should have no relations to PvE. I know Hellhound was highly requested by the PvE community and putting it into The Feast was not a good idea. Same goes for the Magitek Conveyor (the flying seat from the scientist in Ala Mhigo dungeon). I guess SE tried to make people play Feast but imo it was not a smart decision. I would have liked to see Hellhounds being the current primal mounts and the wolves as Feast rewards since Feast is wolf themed. But SE decided otherwise, probably because the wolf mounts are Okami style and match the whole eastern theme SB has.

My only problem with Top 100 Feast rewards is that they're limited by time.
I get it, it's a competition and all that, but when you can get everything else in the game with enough time, work and money having this one thing locked out does feel a little bad.

No. I wouldn't be mad. This exact thing happened in TERA for an exclusive minion and I just went "meh". I had already had the minion for two years before anyone else and my worth isn't validated by pixels. I was happy other people got the chance to use the cute minion.

Think about it - none of this kind of top 100 stuff happens for any other PvP game worth it's salt. Not even League has exclusive rewards for top players. The most they have is the Victorious skins each season for Gold + but the thing that makes that work is everyone can get to Gold +. Not just 100 people. And the seasons also last the entire year. And there is ranked decay. Feast reward systems are terribly designed.

I agree with this point.

If they fixed the way you rank, made the seasons longer, and make the PvP rewards NOT requests the PvE players make, then I would understand exclusive rewards the same way I understand the Victorious skins. SE does not realize they will NEVER get these PvE players into PvP period. End of story. I cannot get a single person in my FC or linkshells to play anything remotely PvP with me. No amount of rewards will, and putting the stuff they ask for constantly behind PvP just serves to deepen the hatred they have for it.

Before we going on I would like to say your point of view does seem fair, and understandable. With that being said not factoring in emotion or desire why is it wrong to make items available for everyone for different reasons? Just wondering.

People demanding these rewards for nothing is all emotion and desire. They see something they can't have and want. So they make demands. Don't act like the people who make these threads are doing it out of some pure principle. They see something that they might want and when they realize they can't have it, make thread and demand it for nothing. Plain and simple.

There is a reason there are not constant threads demanding things like legacy tatoos/chocobos and artwork contest rewards. People see what they like and they attack the mechanism preventing them from achieving it. In this case PVP has appealing items. It's all emotion and desire for them. Not principle

What emotion and desire? SE said these rewards are top 100 players only and only available for a limited time. Items should stay as advertised. Top 100 rewards for top 100 players. And if you are going to claim that is emotion and desire, then merely implying right or wrong is referencing a emotion and desire. You can't sit there and say without "emotion and desire" and then ask me how it is "wrong" when objectively right or wrong is based on how people feel about it. At that point your question is self conflicting. There isn't much more to say to you on this matter. Find another point to debate.

Great competition when there is no rank decay thus people can just sit on their ranks, when we have cheaters and rank sellers and when we have people that are using their alts in this. Lets talk about this as a competition if stuff like that cant happen anymore and people have to constantly play throughout the season to keep their rank..

Also in a way it is a grind. Just a very timed one. Because as far as I know you can grind x amount of times and even though you have less wins in it, the sheer number of the runs might place you before someone that played less but won them more battles. And thanks to no rank decay some can grind it out the first time it comes out, then sit on it and thus stopping others from getting to their rank because they simply cant get the amount of necessary battles to match them. That is not competition. You dont do sports in real life and get on top by playing a huge amount of matches with lots of losses and then just sit there till the end of a season to place high.

Maybe we can talk about it again if they have rank decay and/or a certain amount of matches per season which means that only those with high win rates will land on top..exactly how it is in real sports.

Should add other means to get those contest rewards from that current ongoing contest right now too.

At least the contest rewards are the same things made available through different events. Sometimes drawings...sometimes screenshots...sometimes poems or stories. That would be like making pvp rewards available through pvp, but also gold saucer, front lines, potd and so on.

You are getting slightly combative, I am being civil here no need to be combative. When I used the word wrong I was using it the context of breaking an established rule or agreement, no so much as emotion. Is it fair to say your established rule / agreement is based around an agreement between the PvP community and Square Enix? If that is the case in theory if square were to alter the agreement, would you have an issue with it? Or is Square not free to make alterations to the agreement? Would it be fair it the alternations were meant for future rewards only?

Edit: Not here to debate, more so have a friendly discussion. Figured enough people were being hostile towards you so why add to the crowd.

Since you're on Chaos I will only speak about Chaos. We had one rank seller that tried to get one account on the board last season and that guy didn't even place Top100 in the end. Spamming matches does not help you to get a higher rating. It does on paper but reality is it won't get you anywhere - exceptions prove the rule.

I agree with you on the "sit on a rating" last seasons but you still saw many people going minus and plus in points. The current season is quite different tho. You don't see people going minus because SE changed what the leaderboard shows. Only your highest rating is shown on the leaderboard atm. That doesn't mean people aren't playing tho. Jump into WPD Discord or check out streams at peak times (if you don't want to queue or aren't on a higher tier) and you will see the majority is playing alot. No one is blocking the queue by not queuing.

Going by the leaderboard as of right now [24.06.2018 02:45am] I can tell you there's only one alt in Top100.

Just because it isn't "as much" of a problem on one data center doesn't mean it isn't absolutely endemic on others.

Regardless of that, you stating something is wrong is inserting feeling. If something is wrong then you feel that it is wrong. And yes, SE has made it abundantly clear that these rewards are exclusive to top 100 players and time exclusive through numerous blogs and announcements and is still true to this very day.

Also, I find your questions rather rhetorical. Would breaking a promise be wrong? I think we both know the answer to that question.

You can view something is wrong without it being based in emotion. As in this example SE made an agreement or set a precedent with the PvP community regarding the rewards. I would agree due to current agreement any change would be wrong. Now the question remains do you feel SE is within their right to change or alter the agreement? I do think that if SE were to restructure how rewards are distributed in PvP it should be for future rewards only and not past rewards since that goes against the agreement / precedent they established before in the previous seasons. The question itself has very little with them breaking a promise more so do you think SE is within their rights to altar the agreement for future seasons.

So we are in agreement that SE has the right to alter how they distribute rewards for future seasons, as long they they adhere to the agreement from the previous seasons and do not make the rewards mentioned that would only be awarded to those whom were able to obtain top 100 available to non top 100 players? I do not agree with this, I do not believe one needs empathy to understand an action is wrong. I understand breaking the law is wrong in the sense that it is not my best interest to break them. Empathy plays no role it is more so an act of self preservation.

My social skills are lacking, normally when having a discussion with someone if there is confusion as to what is being said it leads to potential hostile exchanges. So I was shown if I do not understand something someone is saying asking them to explain instead of being combative leads more positive result and fosters a healthier discussion. Since miscommunication is often a primary reason for a misunderstanding. Going based off the comment regarding the high ground I guess this misunderstanding in this moment just boils down to that fact you feel this is a debate and I view this as a discussion. That is why I removed those parts from my post, was never my intention to get into a debate with you, just to gain understanding. :) At the start I was hostile, but watching the thread I figured all the hostility would simply halt the discussion, which would be a shame since the topic in my opinion does open up interesting avenues of conversation.

They aren't breaking a agreement if they change it for future seasons, if they remove the option for future top 100 rewards then they are just changing the system. Understanding the concept of wrong in the first place requires you to feel and have emotion in the first place.

Definition of Wrong:

unjust, dishonest, or immoral.

To understand wrong you have to feel that way. Immorality is based on feeling. If you don't feel then you can't understand the concept of wronging other people.

Would you consider it breaking a promise if they recolored or reskinned some older top 100 rewards and made those recolors/reskins available in some other content? This was mentioned by the OP as one solution and it has happened to many rewards already.

It's not breaking a promise because they never said it to begin with. Not once. Not ever. In terms of Feast rewards they have always been vague. The only thing that we have ever had any info to go by is that they said during live letter around Season 4 when they were asked about it, they mentioned they would cycle in rewards at some point in time. We don't know if that means the recolors every other season like we've been getting or if they literally mean to bring back all the old rewards? There was never a promise they made to players saying they were exclusive or that we'd never see them again.

If anybody can find a direct quote or link to a video of Yoshi or a Developer saying otherwise then I'd love to see it. Maybe then these threads can finally die since everybody will actually officially know S/E's stance on the matter.

I am talking about the whole of FF14 not only chaos. And there is at least one big european FC that sells high ranks and even has some of their member saying in a video that they are using cheats in PVP. I mean there is a thread in the PVP forum that exactly talks about the problem and that it seemingly got even worse. And there is a post on reddit that also talks about this.

I am not saying that 50% or something of the top ranks are cheating, but as long as even a couple of cheaters exist, as long as rank decay exist and as long as some people putting their alts in the rank..you cant call it a competition. Because every single one of those are people that are taking highly limited mounts away.

I think it's fine for exclusive seasonal items to exist in PvP. If you put in the work you should get rewarded. However maybe colour variants or slight model changes of the Hellhound could be added to PvE content/Mogstation. It could be called an Aetherhound or something.

Im ok with things being exclusive. In fact, this game needs more exclusivity in its rewards (and im not talking about regional exclusives or Mogshop greed-grabs).

Could someone provide the list of Feast rewards over the past seasons? I only know that magiktech chair mount for the recent reward which looks cool.

You can just Google for FFXIV Feast Rewards and see what they were in past seasons. IIRC:

Season 1 and 2: Eagle Coat/armor
Season 3 and 4: Hellhound mounts
Season 5 and 6: Hellhound Armor (and weapons introduced with the Wolf Collars system)
Season 7 and 8: Aulas' chair

TBH, ranked time-limited, exclusive rewards were a mistake. You just know people are going to cheat/boost/trade in order to get something so rare. And that sours the mode not just for those who take it seriously as a competition, but for anyone else who would like to dip a toe into the waters of PVP and try it as well.

It's easy to say "well just try it, make it to the top 100 and then you'll see how much time/effort goes into it, and you won't want to give everyone and their dog access to the same rewards."

(I don't...but I would like a version made available with collars...so at least you still have to Feast to get them).


You might be surprised to learn that it was the addition of the hellhound mounts that got me into PVP in the first place. And this was back when we had chat, so people could tell me what I needed to do and how things worked. Of course they also told me to go die in a fire, but I digress...

What they should have done from the beginning - knowing that people can and will cheat and circumvent the system and rules in place to get something so rare - was to rigorously watch those leaderboards like a hawk. Give priority to the first character on an account and boot the alts. Monitor suspicious behavior and boot the traders and cheaters. If you want to make it a real competition, be like a referee. Video evidence is practically impossible to fake, accept that in lieu of screenshots.

You cannot, cannot, cannot expect players to police a mode themselves. Some do try, but honestly, that is not and nor should it be their job. That's like asking students to manage a classroom.

So much of Feast right now is left to complete randomness. Who your teammates are and their respective skill levels. What class YOU are and how quickly (or slowly) you get to participate in a match. Add in lack of rank decay and your hands and feet are tied before you ever get out of the gate. If you still want to try despite all of this, then you've got to have luck on your side (at least from Gold and below) because you will be matched with people who don't know what they're doing, and your efforts will be a waste.

I've long advocated for Feast to either be a solely team-related mode OR to calculate points based on your own personal performance. The system as it stands right now is broken. It's the laughingstock of the rest of the game for a reason. And some players have tried hard to change that, but there's only so much we can do. Without intervention from the developers to say their piece on why it was done X way, and what's going to happen moving forward (or not), it's no wonder we feel like the mushrooms of the FFXIV world -- kept in the dark and...you know the rest.

I find it strange people get upset when the People selling those event items was trying to say #freeship wasn't free shipping. You know, as if a agreement or promise was broken.

And then you have the same people arguing that SE should break their promise/agreement with regards to Feast Rewards because they REALLY want those rewards. Can the community not be consistent or what?

What promise? You keep parroting that silly little word like a child in denial. When did S/E ever once make that promise in regards to Feast? I'm still waiting for that evidence. You wouldn't happen to be a compulsive liar and assumption maker would you? To this day S/E hasn't made an official comment on the exclusivity of any of their Feast rewards. The truth is we've all just been floating along under the assumption that it's just the way it is and you appear to have convinced yourself that it must be some sort of pact they have to honor you at this point? Maybe they'll go through with their and the communities assumption that they'll be added to wolf collar list after x-amount of Seasons?

My hats off to you if they do confirm your hopes, but if they say otherwise then you're going to feel quit silly about yourself if you keep saying sputtering stuff like that.

If they brought these rewards back as top 100 rewards, it wouldn't break their promise and would allow people who didn't get them before to try to earn them.

All it says is that you get it from only doing Feast. Not seeing any quote in that blog saying they'll never release it again in that particular content? Even the way it words the Weapons is in the same light that they talk about the armor. Participate, do good, get prizes. Play Feast.

So the only thing you're confirming to me is that your guess is as good as mine and we simply just don't know?

But here's more food for thought. Why is it that only the top 10 get collars now instead of super fancy stuff like earrings and crowns like they did in the past?

All players who finish this season of The Feast in the top 10 will be rewarded with enough tickets to exchange for the weapon of their choice. A daunting task, but trust me: they'll be worth it."

So want to explain to me then why the top 10 aren't getting anything exclusive anymore then save for #1? Sounds like to me they are getting ready to do something to the system cause if they would of followed their normal track record you'd be getting the helmet to that armor for getting top 10 and not just a freebie of extra collars. That's just an assumption though on my part.

Seems suspicious to me, so can you really act surprised when people keep asking this question as to which we haven't received an official answer to yet?

Nope. Just seeing that it says it's tied to Feast and people who get 100 get it for that particular season. Not seeing anywhere saying that it won't be released again from said content. Nor do I see anything referring to this 'promise' stuff you've been going on about. :cool:

I dunno man, it kinda feels like a reach when this sentence is your basis for SE GAVE US THEIR SOLEMN BLOODOATH THAT TOP 100 PVP REWARDS WILL FOREVER REMAIN EXCLUSIVE IN PERPETUITY..

And yes, that's exactly the sort of combative and over-the-top vibe you've been putting out the last few posts.

Not to mention we literally have an example from just last week where a developer's blog post was amended due to containing incorrect (or unverified) information, so it's not like they're inviolable promises to the players or anything.
