Ehhh, the Calamity Salvager one is maybe a poor argument. Most of what you can buy back from him can also be put in the Armoir. Tbh I always thought it was a little strange to have both options.

I wonder, what brings people into a thread where users are discussing the flaws of a new system just to suggest not to use it?
Well that's a great suggestion, don't you think? Imagine going into a thread were people are complaining about the new raid tier being too unbalanced and tell them "well, then don't play that". Because, you know, the old raids are still there. God forbid people being excited about a new glamour system and bummed that it has a fatal flaw, let alone discuss that flaw in a completely civil manner.
It is more freedom but not much. Especially for people who buy off the mog station. I don't really but anything off there except $5 old event stuff but for people who buy 20 dollar sets they can't use this system on more than one job unless they want to risk losing it. I think that really sucks for them. They should have at least added all mog station items to the armoire. That strikes me as odd why they didn't. They know people are not going to want to risk losing items they paid good money for.
I pity the fool that puts their Anima Lux weapon in the dresser before reading patch notes
I'll reserve judgement until I see the system for myself, but I do have high hopes for it. For my personal use, it will be much better than the current system. Yes, 200 slots is not enough, but it's a start. They have already said more will be added later.
Doesn't help if, like the last time, you can turn in your completely upgraded relic weapon to make the first few steps of the new relic easier.
Beside, I'm not 100% sure, but I think we could only buy replicas of all steps before the one you're currently on, so there's probably no replica for the Lux stage. I might be getting confused with the 2.0 relics though.
Right now thy only things I would put into the dresser are items I can craft or easily replace from a vendor. Any unique or hard to get items will stay with my Retainer.
the dresser thingy is silly i won't bother with it and please remove glamour prisms altogether like carbonzied matter ty v ~v;
Wait, our Squad can't get in on the dresser system?
But what about my plans to put the Manderville gear in the dresser so that no matter what gear I'm wearing I could easily have the appearance deserving of a true gentleman? I wanted to be able to have my Squad in the same gear, so that we could run command missions as a team of gentleman ...
Now I have to pick one or the other? :(
Edit- Wait, can you rebuy Manderville gear? If so I'm all set. Seeing as I only tank (all between 50 and 55) and I'm only just recently coming back to this game I know that most nice looking things will be useless stat wise by the time I'm 70. If it's something that's only useful for glame, dresser it. But I would like for there to be no amount limits ...
Complexity for the sake of complexity. :/
It wouldn't matter if the item was destroyed EXCEPT we have this retarded 200 limit. Hit the limit and need to remove something... too bad, you lose it. -__-;
Why the dev team would even spend time on such a cobbled together solution boggles my mind. No one in their right mind is going to put anything valuable in this thing. I'd hazard a guess that the majority of people won't even really use it as it is now.
If I read it right, we also can't even assign Plates to gear sets (yet)... so if we want to swap jobs we're going to be left with unglamoured gear unless we make a job switch/apply plate macro.
Complete and utter phail.
For the shoe example: You can use a combination of both the normal glamour system and the glamourtoiletdresser. The corresponding item slot in the plate has to be empty though.
For the glove example: Just edit the plate. It will cost you 1 glamour prism to change it.
Exactly. I originally suggested destroying the item to convert it into a glamour (to avoid weird market problems), but you can't do that with limited space.
Maybe SE doesn't realize how much MMO players hate losing things they work for?
Item destruction, or limited space in the dresser (I may go back to calling it a toilet).. not both.
As someone with 4 retainers and half my inventory full of gear I've collected through the years, I'm very concerned about this system. I was excited about it at first but now... I'm not so sure I want to use it at all if it's going to destroy the things I've worked to obtain.
While the concern is valid, I don't think it's that bad.
Destroyed as in , you'll never get to use that item as gear again. If you ever see yourself using a particular item as gear and not glamour, do not dresser it. However, if you have a hat that looks good but is level 1 and you don't think you'll care about using it on retainers or Squadron members soon, go for it. Keep in mind they've announced plans for it to be usable on your NPC friends eventually.. but that is also "Soon™", so I wouldn't hold your breath on that part.
The doom and gloom crowd still mystifies me , the system is usable . Agreed it's not optimal, but it's not unusable by any measure.
I'm super bummed that you can't take anything out of the dresser once it's in. :( Combined with the item limit, it really restricts what I feel I can do with the system. But, the more I think about it, the more I think this might be a "beta" version of the feature. I'm hoping so, anyway. A few important upgrades would make it more usable.
1) Remove restrictions (200 item limit, 10 glamour plates) or make them much, much higher than they currently are (or allow items to be retrieved).
2) Allow plates to be applied anywhere in the world.
3) Allow plates to be applied to retainers and squadron members.
If you assume this is a feature in its beta stage, then these limitations make sense - they want to see how it works and how the system performs before opening the gates on one or more of these. I'll go the optimistic route for now and hope that future enhancements are coming. In the meantime, I'm going to be putting all of my job artifact gear into the dresser - it's easy to re-obtain if needed and I can't use it on squadron members anyway. I want to try making some glamour plates so that my summoner has a unique look from my red mage, and this will help with that. Maybe in the future I'll have more freedom for creativity but time will tell.
This is exactly how I'm seeing it. Initial foray for numbers and impact study. I would be surprised if this didn't get expanded at all. I'm actually expecting to see the armoire phased out and just added to the dressers inventory once it's applicable to all glamours everywhere (squads, retainers) since there is little to nothing in there that affects stats. There is the few "under *blahblah* level +% XP" things that would need to be moved or accounted for, but 99% of it is looks only.
I agree. The doom and gloom is confusing.
But I also see that it might be a case of perspective at play here. For example, I'm a tank just getting back into this game. Now that I'm back I'm trying to progress through this game with my highest being a currently 55 PLD and next a 51 DRK and next a 50 WAR.
So to me this seems super cool. NOTHING I come across will ever be of much use to me for anything other than looks unless it's Bis until I'm max and I really only have to worry about tank stuff that's around the same level.
But for someone at max level with like 5+ maxed out jobs with different gear needs and more than 2 retainer they have to take care of? They may not like the idea of throwing out something that could be useful even if it's not bis for this or that or the 10 plate thing. They have far more options than I do and more to take care of.
Of course, but saying the system has NOTHING to offer that "veteran" is false. There's still inventory mitigation available and potential for even the person who needs alt costumes for every single job. More options is better than no options. And before someone chimes in with "but they did it all wrong", I'm going to stop trying to convince you of the dev side and just say: This is what we have, we might as well see how it works and provide feedback based on that since it's coming anyway.
Oh I agree, I'm all for it. I never liked the current system cause I was max level for maybe a month a long time ago and saw how fast gear gets outdated so I mostly never bothered. This is a step up for everyone and a step in the right direction, no doubt about it. Like everything new I'm sure they will expand upon it.
Well I’m officially scared to use this system. I put a piece of gear in it to test and it felt like throwing my hat into a pool of acid to see how fast it dissolved. You know a system is broken when you’re afraid to use it for its intended function.
We can’t even glamour things from the dresser with the old system, you have to use a plate, I had high hopes for the glamour system changes but as it is I can’t see myself ever using it.
Well Yoshida more than once stated that people should just throw away dungeon gear if they have no storage left...glamour gear that might be hard to get since its no guaranteed drop thus can take quite the while to farm it again even unsynch.
And wait you cant use the old and new system? Didnt they just said the complete opposite in the liveletters? So if people want a complete glamour they need to either only use the old system or the new one but not both? Thats just bad..
And honestly I would accept beta versions more if we get a true promise that more would come..but there was no hint that this was only a beta version. They only said that they will increase the limit but not when and not how much..
The plates apply the glamour onto the gear itself so if you want to use the old system too, you need to keep reapplying the glamours on individual pieces. For example: 1) glamour RDM the old way with 5 prisms, 2) glamour SMN the new way by using a plate, 3) use another 5 prisms to glamour RDM again because the SMN plate overwrote the original glamour. The glamour plate doesn't go "over" the old glamour appearance, but rather replaces it. This means wearing a unique outfit on each job is as cumbersome and expensive as it has always been, i.e. you have to re-glamour every time when changing a job.
Actually they have said they intend to build on this system. For example one complaint, that you couldn't use gear in the Dresser to glamour squadron members or retainers, was something they said they wanted to address by making it possible to use stuff stored in the Dresser for those glamours.
The Dresser definitely needs work but its not a complete lost cause. Its limitations are frustrating though and I hope they can address those somewhat. Even more plates would improve the system a great deal.
I'm sure they'll grow on the system overtime... Lets sit back and see what will happen.
They probably will, but that doesn't explain why they started by making it both overly complicated and needlessly restrictive at the same time.
Plenty of other games have better systems that they could have copied instead.
Personally I wish they could have copied LOTRO's wardrobe and outfit system - which is superior in almost every way.
(WoW apparently also has a good system, but I have no personal experience with it.)
Don't know if this has been asked or anything said in patch notes: but can we convert the old prisms into the new one's? have a handful of cloth and leather which now aren't useful.
Item destruction pretty much means I will not use the glamour dresser, and will glamour manually. It should be used as a storage device, simple as that. But currently, Im just goign to get another retainer.
Can we not remove items from the glamor chest?
If not, I want a roll back and get my gear back lol.
