I think this would be pretty cool. I'm seriously sick of caravan runs and SOLO LEVES for company seals.
But it can't make it super easy to get seals. There should still be a little grind for them.

I miss conquest all the way around to be honest. Matter of fact, a conquest system in this game seems like it would have made more sense than it did in XI. There is pretty much ZERO sense of national pride now as it is. Years from now when the Garleans finally get off their ass and invade in full, it seems like a Conquest or Campaign style system could add a lot depth to the game. To those of you like Vedis that are against any good idea simply because its taken from XI, maybe if this game was more like XI it wouldn't suck so bad. CHocobos are in just about every FF game, yet I don't here people whining that its ruining this game.
I am all for anything that gets people proud of their nation and out of Ul'dah as long as it adds more depth to what feels like a rather hollow game right now. I don't give a S@#$ if the ideas are from other games. People need to get over this notion that no good ideas could ever be taken from other MMO's. Its that kind of thinking that got the steaming pile that was this game at release.
So, people don't want to go to a town to get signet, because they aren't already in the town all the time. If you honestly can't go to a town ONCE in a while to get signet, you are extremely lazy. But I digress, in an age of Amazon.com, give-it-to-me-now industry, it doesn't surprise me people are so vehemently against doing anything besides teleporting straight to a dungeon, fight one boss for five minutes, and then afk until you can do the boss again.
inb4ffxi clone, inb4too hard, inb4i want everything in front of me or I qq, inb4formalities are stupid in an army, inb4this game sucks cause I don't have 99999999999GCS instantly, etc
edit: SE never even said this will be added to the game. I don't understand why people are getting so extremely upset about a zero percent chance of signet being added to this game.
I think what you are saying is cool and all and I will let you finish but...
Really all both sides can really do is go back and forth at each other... most of the people in this thread and I'm not pointing who is in this category out those know who they are... erm well quite frankly need to pull their heads out of FFXI's proverbial butt really. You are stuck up there pretty darn good and it is either for the reasons you so hatefully go at those who bring up FFXI systems at all or you are the other side constantly pushing and kissing the FFXI systems so much you head is stuck up there!
Really I should have waited till the end of my idea to put that since I'm sure that is the only thing that will get a response... Anyways here goes a thought into the darkness...
Ok humans toss out the idea of any other game system right now!! Ok got it? Good!
If you look at the Grand Companies they are what? Military structured command system with units and such to be moved and deployed in the defense of the city state.
Correct so what would you think would be a good system to allow players to earn GCS instead of XP or lower the rate XP is earned but also allow for a small flow of GCS?
Oh I know a TDS or TOS... erm what are those you ask? A TDS or Troop Deployment System and a TOS or Troop Operations System that is what!
The TDS and TOS can be set for all the different areas around where beastman camps and strongholds are located. Sort of like how leves are at certain camp points and such only these would be split out to all the different beastman areas. Though don't think of them like leves because they are not!!
Here is how it would work ok. You go to your GC office and pick a TDS or TOS. The initial fee of GCS for a TDS or TOS is 100 or so seals which grants you a 2-4hr buff in which your XP is converted over to GCS (sort of 1000xp = 1 GCS?).
Now you are thinking erm but only 2 or 4 hours? really? Yes for the standard TDS or TOS only 2-4hrs. You can buy the longer duration TDS or TOS for more GCS that say extend it out 24hrs to a week at the most. The buff you get is only active in the stronghold of camp area you picked from the TDS/TOS list and if you are not in said camp/stronghold areas you do not get the buff. Also the only mobs the buff works for are the beastmen... if you pick a camp and are still within the camp area but you kill say some sheep you get xp not GCS so all kills for this must be beastmen and their allies.
Later on the system can be improved to add in different Empire camps/strongholds when/if they come into play... and also there could be TOS missions setup for some of the dungeons and such.
Does this sound like a better idea? maybe you should think about it some more... I also suggest when you are going to post something about a system from another game do no mention said game and try to put a your own twist on the idea. This way if someone says oh you mean like from here you can say um did that game have a system just like this? and you are not instantly into the whole no this no that because it came from X game...
And I typed too much...

I think the idea of a "Signet" type system is rather dated. I'm content to wait for Hamlet defenses.
If I'd want anything from FFXI in order to get GC Seals It would be Assault. I thought the system was like a better thought out Leve system, and found it to be rewarding and entertaining.
Signet is just a really dated idea, that adds absolutely no content and supplements grinding.
I would love a signet. I'm all about "a little more effort" to get " a little more reward", people who don't want it are too lazy to talk to npcs, think about that. It doesn't have to be like XI's exactly, its can be obtainable at aetheryte camps. But instead of trying to work with the idea, lazy people just say no, and secretly they say yes to more awkward hand holding. Maybe people who say no to signet, just hate the idea because it was xi, instead of us wanting it because it was in XI. XI was there previous mmo, this mmo sucked at launch, fan service is now necessary and that it was they've been doing.
Wooo First Post!!!!
Now that that's out of the way.......
Implementing previous systems to add content to the game is nice and all, but like a few have said; why not just use/build on what we already have. GCs exist already and, supposedly, are there to organize adventurers and countrymen to fight off national threats like Beastmen and the Garleans. Beastmen already drop an item that is considered useless as of now, Beast Coins/Seals . Why don't we just have the option to turn those in for some rewards? Isn't that kinda proof enough that we're fighting off the threat? Stealing their money and cultural artifacts seems like a good way to prove we "Stuck it to um".
Assault would be awesome too. :) But signet is really not a new type of content. You said it yourself--it just...

Grinding is going to happen. The end. So why not get a few seals (I'm not talking 50 a kill, like 2-3 a kill) for doing it?
So wait. Every 1000xp I get a seal? X_X" I know I said I thought the gain should be minimal, but... that seems like a good reason to continue doing solo leves. However, I'll just pretend that those numbers are an integral part of your system. ^-^
I mean, other than the numbers, this kind of sounds like what someone sounds earlier--that it should only work on stronghold mobs--but with the limit of only picking your stronghold. Someone else already said that you should suffer an exp penalty to get seals instead, and tbh I'm all for that idea. Rather than signet (required to get seals) why not get an "active duty" kind of buff that switches your xp gain to seal gain? Like switching to meripo mode, except you can't do it from anywhere. Hell, I don't care if you could switch it from the main menu--would that please the anti-signet/anti-XI/anti-town-running people? It would also solve our "OMG LEVEL SYNC? BUT I'M LEVEL 50, I CAN'T GET ANYTHING!¬!££%(¬*£(!$*&^%" issue, by allowing level 50s to at least get seals. Heh. For a random idea, I kind of like it. o.0Quote:

I'm really bummed out at the lack of national pride, too. In XI, we could change nations, yet there was a stronger sense of connection. I think part of this comes from the lack of story, though. FFXI cutscenes made me cry the first time through. XIV cutscenes make me use the skip cinematic button sometimes. FFXI bosses took dedication and effort. XIV missions have lame battles that are mostly soloable. There's very little to get you in character, so to speak.
XIV is more like a big sandbox full of disconnected events that get you different rewards. Few people bother getting into the story, and I don't blame them. When it takes a conscious effort, it's hard to keep reading.
I'm officially completely off-topic. I'm stopping now.
why are you here infesting this game go play xi
If they put in something like signet, it needs to be different so it doesn't come down to remembering to grab it on the way out of town. Maybe make it so there are different kinds of signets that stay on your character at all times, but you can switch between them whenever you want. Or just give everyone a permanent signet that acts differently depending on which region you are sided with. The fact that they removed shell and combined the effects with protect already goes against the idea of bothering with a signet like ff11s. It either needs to be permanent or there needs to be a downside or gamble for using it otherwise it won't add anything meaningful.
this is good idea, but ppl will max seals in like 1day.... can go to wolf camp in thanalan and avg 500k exp an hour just thming it
signet & conquest points would defiantly be something i would like to see :)
1:1 ratio is a bad idea. 1 seal for 1000 xp was also not necessarily a good idea. There's definitely something to your statement... but hopefully, as people get higher ranks, the cap will go up, and getting even the insane amounts you'd get from a 500k xp/hour party would be somewhat small.
Or possibly, there could be a cap on how many seals could be earned in a set period, just to prevent this.
I was thinking x amount of exp = x amount of points, with those points you can trade them into GCS or other things, like warp scroll and other things. idk.
This is an excellent idea as well, though it would seem simpler to keep them tied to the company. Though we all remember our starting country, it doesn't seem to be set as our "country of allegiance" in anything but our minds and the first few main scenario missions. :/ What seems to determine our "home country" is, if anything, the companies. That said, I would love to have more ties to our starting country, and another point system could definitely fit into that. The way most NPCs speak to us as of now, none of us adventurers are actually from any of the three nations. It would seem like this would be a good place to say that I'd love some quests that would allow us to formally pledge ourselves to a nation--however, this would make a problem I whined about earlier even worse, as NPCs would continue telling us how little we know of (for example) Gridanian customs (though they've been explained 3-4 times by overly assumptive NPCs).
My 1000xp - 1GCS was just a number tossed out to have a number... It would probably be a lot less then that but not something that just super easy to just grind out and also why there are different levels of the orders you can get in the system I put forth.
I guess we could go with Rokien and have the xp pooled into a set of points that you can then use to buy GCS or maybe other little things or the points can also be used to extend the time on your orders if you wish to keep going with that set. Also in the system the same type of orders would be given by all the GC so that way everyone can fight and help each other and you don't have to worry about being in the same GC.
How does that sound if you look at what I posted before? Much better system hmmm? And it does fit into the whole military group sort of thing...

Bye.

I can't agree more! :D
When the grand companies were introduced I felt attached and proud of my company/nation. Sadly that didn't last too long because you aren't able to do much for your company or nation.
Some sort of competition between nations and or companies would be really fun!:o
Do we get ta kull lallafels?

I wouldn't really like this all to much, I do like the thought of more exp buffs but they could easily remedy that with something more limited like pay for more months and they give you some Exp pots/rings make them so usefull but not easily accessed by being able to be bought. As for something like the def buffs and other small things like that I think that should be left to jobs.
Wait... more exp? You are joking right? You can get 40-50 in no time.... why do we need even faster exp....? Are you crazy?
OMG please yes... signet!!!
Idk why people would be against this D:
Crystals drop from enemies automatically.
PvP is probably going to be what conquest points were.
Signet has no place in this game. I don't need a constant buff, unless it was exclusive to hamlet defense/pvp/etc.
I enjoyed XI's conquest with signet, and hope at some point they bring something like that into the game. What I mean by something like that is, a type of system that really makes the player feel like they are effecting the world in a way, be it for the companies, cities, etc.
Does it need to be just like XI, no, as I'm interested in what the devs can come up with, but needless to say more content would be welcomed. :)
Sure, what would you like me to sign? Get it? Signet. Sign it. Huh? Right?
...I'm sorry ._.
I actually like that idea. For instance, pay a small fee to the Grand Company representative (like you would do "using the facilities" at a crafting guild) in order to activate the Signet. Then you go out killing monsters which are at least 1 level higher then you. The Seal reward doesn't have to be much, just a few Seals for each monster you kill. Combine that with an escort quest and you might get 1 1/2 times the Seals you would normally get.
