I'm surprised that there are a decent amount of mentors are going through so much hassle to see the NN staying on course. I commend you, and feel bad for you. I entered the Novice network for about a week and it was honestly just too nuts. I keep my Mentor flag up but left the NN and in my search info include that I can help you if you need it.

Balmungs NN for the most part, is fine.. the 5?? cases I had with people though it, the GMs took the calls fine, and did not reply to me like they did to the TC. As others pointed out, I am sure the GMs know the TC by now and was basically saying stop making mountains out of molehills and kicking people for small reasons. If the TC gets so easily offended, the blacklist is there for that. Kicking people should be reserved for spam and harassment.

We are not supporting ERP or harassment in the NN, the situation the TC made this thread was based on kicking someone for making an innuendo. It was a small joke on a comment of being destroyed something, it was not .... a big thing... till eve made it a big thing, started drama with the NN, and when people disagreed with Eve, eve kicked those they where not happy with, so someone kicked eve so they couldn't keep abusing the kick in that moment.

No one is saying we shouldn't kick people that make the NN an unfriendly place, everyone on balmung wants Eve to stop the excessive kicking.

I can't say for certain myself, never seen it or heard it happen to anybody, but I'm just suggesting since it sounds like the easier solution Balmung's Novice network problem.

Why are we trying so hard to mollycoddle new players and protect them from "bad words" anyway? There's a lot more to this picture than what's being told. I have reported players for obscenities in channels. For reference I'm talking racial slurs and other derogatory speech about specific groups of people. If they're talking about sexual things like various anatomy being inserted into various other anatomy and so on and so forth. Considering a good portion of FFXIV is probably people in their later teens and early twenties when humans are a little more hormonal. That isn't anything punishable.

Now if it was derogatory or racial you should have quoted that to the GM or be more direct about the nature of the obscenities being spoken.

Until these questions are further laid out, the GM did his job to a T.

The ToS are purely subjective and every GM will interpret and enforce them differently.
This GM has decided to let it slide.
Other GMs will suspend you for dropping an f-bomb in party chat.
It's all part of the horrible customer service that SE provides alongside their products.

The GM seems right to me. Jesus Christ I thought I was gonna read some juicy story about GM corruption. But this is it? You are blowing this way out of proportion. Blacklist the people who offend you and move on like the GM said. It sounds like you were upset that you couldn't change how people interact with each other, even though it had nothing to do with you.

I feel like FFXIV has the most overly-sensitive people in the online gaming world. Everyone gets their feelings crushed as if you have never left your house and met someone with a different personality.

The key words here are "reasonable person." Judging by the posts made here I'm not so sure everyone fits that description.

It honestly sounds like some players are just overly sensitive (even to something not even being directed at them) and feel the need to abuse power to comfort themselves in some manner.

I can't believe people are actually supporting vulgar talk in Novice Network of all places. How do you like your 7-year old daughter's teacher at school sharing his sexual fantasies of making out with a goat or whatever, during recess, or after school? I'm sure you're going to support the teacher and tell your daughter that this is free speech, right?

TPO. Time, Place, Occasion. It is clearly inappropriate to do what the op described in the NN. In Shout? In Say? In Yell? Sure, blacklist the player. But in NN? It's not the right place to do it.

If comments from past interactions with GMs are to be taken at face value.The guide lines that seems to be in place in this game is ignore and move on. While OP thinks they are on some great crusade to clean the channel. If the policy is filter and move on, they are just being a nuisance to the GMs. Ans the way SE has handled most issues in 14 as I don't have any personal knowledge the idea that blist and move on is probably as close to guide lines, as I doubt they actually have a real policy. Sure you might get the odd GM who takes a moment to slap someone around.

Also from the comments from the GM amused me. It is basically when someone comes in again and again and complains. They get labeled and get vague promises to move them out the door. Their words literally have zero
weight.

Isn't an online game literally the TPO to have fun and say odd stuff. It is way better in discord on a crappy raid night. But it sure spills over into other channels. As long as no one is being discriminated against a little vulgar language is nothing. Specially considering what goes on in the background npcs in the game. I do prefer when people are more original being vulgar. But maybe they are having an off day

Also were the comments just sexual in nature. Did they pass over some decency line? It is clear that adult conversations are allowed. If people want to type "(hot)(galka)(meat rod)(rear thrust)(do you need it?)" ffxi joke. It seems like that is ok

I got a permanent black mark for joining a Nidhogg Trial and then calling Nidhogg (an NPC) a bad word. And this GM is telling people that he can't punish people for saying vulgarities!?

did this "bad word" perhaps start with an N and refer to a specific race of people? .. because hate speech is usually dealt with more harshly than just bad words.
