Probably Cancelling My Subscription

While I won't be cancelling my subscription, I too feel the pain of the Housing crisis right now from Patch 4.1. My guild and I were working hard to raise the money for transferring our house plot to Shirogane in one of the Large plots (16 or 30) and my Guild leader was on in the first 30 seconds of the servers being up but by then it appears all plots had been bought.
What's really the issue is the fact that per character you can technically own two houses; 1 for your fc and 1 for yourself. Now if you're paying for up to 8 character's that's 16 houses/account you can purchase which is half a district. The reason that many people are getting by is they just make an FC for themselves and be the only person in the FC allowing them to buy that house.

There really needs to be more restrictions or open up more wards. I was looking forward to eventually being able to buy myself a plot somewhere. But when housing was bought out in Shirogane (be it new or transfer), no plots seemed to really open up in the other regions. Now we got people using PF to sell or buy plots at extremely high prices just killing the housing market. It feels like real life!

My boyfriend and I have both cancelled our subscriptions over this. There's little to add that hasn't been said hundreds of times already, but it felt important to show what this is doing to XIV's loyal playerbase.

My big problem was the fact that the patch was released in an extremely poor state for PC. People got a LONG and SLOW download for the patch. Many people were STILL downloading the patch when the servers came up and the patch even error'd and closed the launcher. Some people even had to start their patch over from scratch when they received the error. That is inexcusable. If they wanted everyone to have an even shot at getting a house, why put housing on a timer to unlock a few hours AFTER the patch goes live so everyone has a chance to log in and get ready?

Same here. FFXIV was a family affair for us: three accounts. We scrimped and saved for every gil to try and get a place and got screwed by the queue. We've all since unsubbed. Losing money is probably the only way for this company to really finally address the situation. I wonder how many people unsubbed yesterday alone.

Likely not enough to impact overall profits significantly. Also should note that at the same time, people may have (re)subscribed, or are subscribing now for the first time during this debacle, thus shrinking the gap of actual loss of players. I do not think there has been a large scale MMO where people unsubscribing has forced the hand of a company as large as SE. Their profits span a multitude of IP's and titles. So all their eggs are not in one basket for profit, and as far as just the FF franchise goes, this is just one smidgen. I believe it's the eventual realization that the total population actually impacted by this housing crisis is much smaller than perceived. I don't recall this being HOUSING MMO ONLINE to begin with either.

honestly they could mitigate this by making apartments less of a half-measure even tho thats still not enough

EDIT: things that would accomplish this would include adding balconies so we can appreciate the scenery of where our apartment is. let us /share the apartment/ with friends or partners.

another thing square enix could do is provide an alternative to needing a house to do FC crafting stuff

they will do none of these things and at most implement three more wards someday

My husband and I will cancel ours if square doesn't make some kind of official announcement soon.
We expected it to be rough and that we might not get one despite saving up for so long. We didn't expect to have absolutely no chance thanks to login lottery

I agree that would help a lot.
Heck even an instanced roof top garden would be an improvement over this. The aparments are a joke. Its not that people want a house just because "ooo shiny" no we want the content locked behind it.

I am with you guys. just cancelled my sub as well . i still have 6p days on my account. (will probably sub back when game time is up)

but still this sends a message. I hope. if enough people do this maybe it will pop on their radar. make a dent large enough for them to notice.

to think of it.. I wonder if other people cancelled their sub just to send a message without the intention of totally quitting the game

I'll have to agree with the unsubbers - SE pushed the housing like it was THE thing of the expension, when they new they were only releasing 720 plots per server with hundreds of thousands subscribed. As people have said, this is business - money talks. Short term they should be doubling all 4 wards as a matter of urgency. More long term they should be adding similar in other major ports. It's all possible - they need to take that subscription money and add as many servers as necessary to make sure their paying customers are properly serviced.

If housing is what is all about for you in FFXIV then by all means feel free to unsub.

But remember when you are unsubbed you can't access the official forum and that means less voice and eventually this whole fiasco will die down and it will be a repeat of 2.1, 2.4. People will then shift their focus to "male bunny suit" or what not and housing will still be the same as it is.

Well considering that when you cancel your subscription, it does not end on that very day that very minute. It has to play out the remaining days. With everyone's final day on their sub being different, no level of statistics will show a spike concentrated around a single moment. So probably not.

When you unsub' on mogstation, you have to choose a reason like "not interested by the game anymore", and then you can cancel your sub. So maybe the chosen reason is sent to SE at the moment you decide to unsub', and not at the end of the remaining days.
If that's the case, there could be a spike of "not interested" players in their statistics.
