Take heart! I apparently stabilized somewhere around .20MB/s. It's not the best but certainly not the worst. I'm just surprised they haven't gone full P2P with patch distribution by now.

Agreed. Seems like this is all over the place and now we're getting into that range of having two hours left to patch and most of us are still showing anywhere from 120-300 mins to finish. If ever seeing as it crashes pretty regularly. You'd think they hadn't done this before. This would have been the sort of thing you probably should have released smaller patches leading up to finalizing it after maintenance started.
I'm on redo 7. Up to 900 then back to 0. Up to 900 back to 0... Gah. If only it could maintain its speed for 20 little minutes...
Crashed again and this time, reset the progress all the way back to the beginning.
What gives SE?
Communication, as someone else said, would be lovely right now.
You know what is utterly infuriating about these download errors? Is restarts from the beginning every time instead of resuming where you left off. That is just a kick in the teeth.
Got to 300-400 three times and 700-800mb thrice before crashing and deleting progress, fun.
They better delay housing or the server launch if this continues
Why is no longer saving the progress of the update? That isn't normal...
Mine just suddenly kicked into high gear and I am almost done
Looks like I am rapidly gaining speed, anyone experiencing this too?
I'm done! Finished! :)
i too am having this issue, and i am kinda in panic mode now because i really wanna get my FC the mansion i had promised.. members have been asking me why we don't have a house and i kept saying "we're holding out for shirogane because SE won't tell us how housing relocation works"
but yeah, it be nice if they told us whats up or even prolonged the server being down so we had a chance to patch it before the servers went up, ooor supplied us with a zip file that we could manually patch the game ourselves
All finished. It just happened randomly for me, and confirmed for a friend as well.
Once it finishes the first 1000ish mbs it speeds up. Seems like that gap from 500-1000ish is the slow part. Mine was going slow till that point then finished in 2mins on the rest of the update.
Finished here as well. After repeated errors, it just sped right up and was finished in no time.
Sooo is this the new trial? after the huge sucess of Raubahn extreme they give us the Launcher extreme? Should I git gud to play today?
More and more reasons for SE to improve their bloody launcher once and for all. They could have done so for Stormblood launch.
mines all patched now, just be persistent everyone, eventually it'll patch and goodluck to everyone... or give up and let me have higher chances of getting my house >:3
After nearly a full hour and about ten harrowing patch errors that probably shaved fifteen years off my life, it's done.
I had to restart no less than 5 times, but it went from around 20% to finished all in one go. The end only took about 5 minutes.
I got it as well.
May the odds be ever in your favor!
After about seven patcher errors it finally reached the first section of "updating" and I have since sailed past 1.2 GB total. I am sure I downloaded the patch's total size three times over by now.
Well, I'm on PS4 and the Update/Launcher version refuses to, well, update. I keep getting:
Unable to complete version check
[20458][24530][20457][410]
I've restarted the game about a dozen times but the launcher just won't update for the patch files.
Guys i think it fixed mine sudden jumped from over an hour to 22 minuets
edit 1: my mb's are slowly climbing back to its normal rate. finish time in 5 mins
edit 2: mine climbed back to 17+mb and finished patch. I wish all of you luck and hope the same happened to you.
Mine and a friends crashed several times then suddenly moved like a bat out of hell and finished in under 2 mins from the start. Keep trying. Might be getting past some of the build up from the initial download rush.
I just finished. It took 7 patcher relaunches, and it progressed slightly further each attempt before failing. Stay strong my brethren (unless you're even more metered than I am).
It took me about a dozen reloads and 40 minutes before it finally stopped giving me that error and updated. I believe its just a problem with everyone trying to update at once. Give it time, keep trying, sacrifice a lala, share some brownies, and it should work for you.
Good luck. I hope everyone gets their houses.
Also, I'm on a PC.
The bottleneck appears to be ARR files. Once you clear the first gigabyte it shoots back up for some reason.
