Can we as paying customers agree the lack of Housing is simply unacceptable to SE?

Same here, got a house myself but still find the situation pretty ridiculous. Ideally having infinite wards with active community is the target but that won't happen ever, or at least in the near future. Granted instance housing might remove the "community" feeling some of you might be enjoying (if it isn't a ghost town on your server), but having instance housing will theoretically provide much more players with a chance to get their own personal house.

I still think the current warding should be limited to FC house only (not gonna touch on one-man FC), then implement fully-instanced, upgradeable plots for personal housing. That would probably serve as a nice middle ground to keep the delicate balance between a lively community ward and enough dynamic resources for a good portion of players to obtain their personal house. Hopefully SE can consider this.

I really think their opinion is skewed by the JP servers. Correct me if im wrong but they have 3 datacenters and a majority of their servers are MUCH smaller than the EU and NA servers, which means less competition for housing to begin with. I'm not saying they don't have a housing shortage like us but it surely effects their opinion on the problem.


Yes, they instituted housing demolition over time. Yes, they added more wards. But were these solutions to bigger problems ( Not enough houses for each customer, People buying more than 1 house on an account, people not even using their houses, People sniping houses to resell them at 2x-30x the price, I could go on )? No this didn't solve any of these issues.

Do I want a personal house? Absolutely. Will I ever get it? I'm not even going to try... I was lucky enough to land in a house for my FC and until the problems are fixed I try not to think about it too hard. I understand the squeaky wheel gets the grease but this subject is always squeaky...

As much as some people are annoyed to see ANOTHER thread about this.. I'm not. Unless people do keep speaking up about it, they'll do nothing.

If people are annoyed about same threads being made in this Housing forum section, then they should really not be here. When people make multiple same topic threads regards to what they are upset about, there is always a good reason why it happens.

Housing system had issues for 4 years and it has not been fixed and instead they always made excuses about how they don't have luxury and budget to add more servers into the wards.

The only reason I am kind of being lenient on their excuse for 12 wards only in Shirogane is because they are too occupied with new swimming system into all 4 zones. Otherwise, I'd be infuriated.

I hope to GOD they don't do instanced housing. That would make everything so inconvenient, and I couldn't show off mine and my wifes gardening skills either.

Try harder. If you try hard enough you will get a house. If you slack around, hope for a shout or check once a week you won't.

I and my wife haven't even been playing for half a year and we both have houses. This is just people that are not willing to dedicate complaining that people who are willing to dedicate actually get houses and they don't. Checking residential areas once a week is not dedicating. Checking reddit to illegally buy houses is not dedicating. Waiting for a shout is not dedicating.

Instanced housing is by far one of the worst ways of handling the housing problem. The only way this can possibly be fixed is to simply add more wards. Instanced housing, pff. Get outta here.

You really would need 50+ wards at this point for anyone to not complain and also it requires small housing to be upgradeable to med/large for everyone to be satisfied.

It's a really BASIC math problem. There are more players than there are houses. That's it. That's literally all you need to prove that the housing system is terrible.

Lol right? It's pretty typical in these threads. It's sadly common to see the "Lol I have a house and you don't, you must totally suck at the game! It's not SE's fault it's totally yours!"

There doesn't need to be housing for everyone... there just needs to be no content locked behind it... SE screwed up adding content that can only be accessed from something like housing... adding public workshops and flowerboxes that allows crossbreeding of plants for apartments would help alot... it would also take much less work than totally rebuilding housing from the ground up...

The housing system is far from the best no argument on that one. For those who want a house depending on your realms population, the best suggestion I can give is this. Log out in your housing ward next too the npc who shows the ward list. Then log in once a day and check the ward list for open plots. Make sure too keep the gil you need to purchase a plot on you. This is not the best answer too the problem but if you set on getting a plot its one of your best options. Last spare me excuses as too why you can't log in for 5 minutes too check a list, no one is so busy they can not do this simple task. Not trying to offend anyone but saying you can't spare 5 minutes is not acceptable.

And about showing off your yard decorum, the wards are practically dead anyways so, who cares? Less than 20% of the current active population will ever own a house--if everyone only owned one and not multiples it would only move up to 23% of the active population, assuming the current census of 800~900k active players is accurate. Instanced housing is the way to go since SE always talks about how their servers can't handle more than 12 wards per housing area per server; no one really cares about your yard decorum more than they would care about having an equal shoot at a house.

Right now, the only way to get one is if you have obscene amounts of gil to purchase one "illegally" (not buying from the placard but from another player) or if you just happen to be lucky enough and come across an open plot. Or, you know, play on an SSD and don't get thrown in a 1,000-person queue on days when new wards go live.

There have actually been a few people with housing who still said the system sucks. Please don't make sweeping generalizations. I own an FC house and I still think (and have always thought) the housing system in this game is garbage.

You do realize that they boot the players out of the Housing Zone when they are unlocking the purchase option, right? There were people who tried to do same attempt for 2.3, and they were sent back out of the zone.

Also, even if it did work - this only works for Ward 1 for Shirogane. Not for other 11 wards since they are just completely locked.

Welp, I'm putting my money where my mouth is. If I don't score a plot the instant ther servers come up, I'm just going to let it lapse and not care.

Things the dev team care about:

A Cash Shop where you can now buy Jump Potions for RETAINERS and eventually a flaming Segway from the Chinese servers.

Perform emotes that no one asked for.

Failed content like LoV and Diadem (twice failed)

Things they don't care about:

Actually implementing solutions that solve the Housing issue after 3 Years of inaction and silence while even allowing 2 people to buy an entire ward, therefore fostering a black market of house flipping.

You want to know how little SE cares about the housing situation that most players are asking they fix? With Shirogane housing coming and something most people are worried about? Then look no further than their priority above and the date.

The community team considers DYEABLE GEAR something of worth to pass on to the dev team ASAP for consideration and not anything related to solutions for Housing for the VAST MAJORITY of the player base. This is how you know anyone at SE does not care about addressing housing in any meaningful capacity.

You're assuming people don't already do this and you're assuming it's just that easy to spend 5 minutes a day and boom you have a house. I check all three housing areas multiple times per day, every single day for months now and have literally never seen an open plot on Hyperion.

I was refering to the lavender,mist and Goblet. I am aware trying to do what I mentioned would not work with Shirogane yet. As before its not the best option but if you are determined that's one way too approach it.

I did state depending on your realms population. If you are on a high pop realm then there is no point in doing it as open plots vanish too quickly.

I find it boggling that they keep pushing new housing features over dealing with how little of the player base can actually acquire a house. I really don't want to hear SE pleading poverty over server space: what are we paying our subs for? Where'd all your cash shop money go?

And I suppose any kind of scaleable system so housing supply can scale with demand would just blow the developers minds as being too complicated and hard.

The ONLY reason I am a bit bitter about 4.1's update in regards to housing is because they didn't add wards more than they needed to. But their excuse probably was related to swimming + relocation system being implemented. So I am hoping they won't say something like this again for 4.2 or 4.3. They already relocated their data centers for better stable connection and server base. So they need to start working on this.

The relocation feature actually made housing even worse. Not only are you competing against people who don't have housing at all and giving them a shot at possibly getting a plot, but now you're competing with people who already have housing and who get a baked in advantage in the form of a 30% discount on their existing plot. Why are people who have been denied the ability to own a plot due to SE's inaction actually at an even further disadvantage because now they are fighting with people who actually have housing AND get a 30% discount?

All of 4.1's Launch Content can be completed in 8 hours or less. I'm simply going to complete this patch's content, let my subscription lapse and wait until SE decides to actually fix their housing issue if I can't get a house because of their lack of solutions. They bragged about having triple the budget of Heavensward but yet why are we not getting more housing? Did the marketing campaign for Mrs. Freshly's really break the bank?

There is no reason to support a dev team that basically has shown utter contempt for their player base by not addressing this issue but rather prioritizes DYEABLE GEAR, Chinese Cash Shop items that will come here (only if you beg them enough), Jump Potions for Retainers and just today the below. Was it mentioned before that the EU data center exists because of the extra income that was earned through the MogStation's shop? If so, perhaps SE should add another set of wards with that and change things around like not allowing level 4 alt characters to own a house.

With the celebration of 10+ million accounts, building more wards should be a huge priority for Square-Enix.

So you believe that Jump Potions for Retainers, dyeable gear and Chinese Cash Shop items are more worthy of dev time/money rather than additional housing wards or fixing a broken housing system they have had over 3 years to give an answer on? If they were responsible, they would prioritize Housing over a Perform emote that no one asked for. By judging their collective silence and ignoring the overall issue of housing, they allowed a situation to occur in which 2 people were able to buy an entire ward and it garnered not even a thought from SE at all.

JP might have asked for it and they have about ...well, a few thousand players on us. So they are appealing to their largest audience. Nothing wrong with that.

Adding more wards will not really help the situation... the same type of players will buy them up on alts and flip them for 10x the amount... as for instanced housing I hate the idea... I enjoy my yard... I enjoy my housing locations... I enjoy looking at other people's houses and yards... what they should do is make a free mogstation item you need to own a house that restricts an account to 1 personal house, one fc house.. you can choose which character on an account gets the item... accounts with multiple houses are given a month to demolish all but the allowed amount of houses so they can choose which to keep.. if they don't choose it defaults to the first properties bought on the account

The problem is that the moment they implement this, people who own multiple housings might automatically get their plots removed without getting the chance to choose which plot they want to keep. So that's no good on that side either.

Why is Square Enix so stingy and doesn't add new wards? People from distant places and other countries will have bigger problems trying to log in and quee for 4.1. In the end, SE will reward those who live beside datacenter, and punish who doesn't. I live in South America, and I'm gonna try to buy a house in shirogane, if Yoshida allow me.

Keep the "neighborhood" wards for FCs only, put membership purchasing limits on bigger FC housing (50+ members to buy a medium, 100+ for large, maybe some kind of small 10+ or 20+ limit on small houses to diminish the amount of individual players buying them).

Allow players to buy an instanced house with a yard that you can invite people to come visit. Exact same as a small house but instanced instead of in a 30-plot ward.

One individual house per account, shared between characters.

Automatically add an additional ward when X amount of plots or less are left in the highest ward. Put housing on a separate server if necessary.

There. Housing is fixed.

I still stand by the fact that allowing people to purchase personal houses in the same areas that Free Company housing exists was the thing that truly ruined housing in this game. Yes - housing would still be a fairly rare commodity in the game if it was limited to FCs in the major housing areas, but the problem would not nearly be as bad as it became once they allowed private land ownership in the same areas.

Honestly, private houses should have either had their own housing areas or they should have been made instanced with the ability to invite people to them.

That said - I do think the ability for people to purchase more than one house on the same account should be implemented (One FC house - if they're an FC leader, and one personal house) as well.

What bothers me is how absolutely silent the dev team continues to be on this despite knowing that housing is a MASSIVE issue in the game. I don't understand the silence - their playerbase is super not happy about this situation and they just keep asking patience for them to add more wards but the game keeps growing and they don't do enough to solve the housing shortage on the larger servers. I'm kinda tired of excuses and "Well small servers still have houses left" - well that's literally not good enough for 90% of the game's playerbase because most of us cannot or will not move servers because it means leaving behind a ton of friends or convincing those people to pay for transfers as well. That isn't a fair system whatsoever. It punishes people for being on higher population servers - which is absolutely not the thing to do.

My friends and I moved to a smaller preferred server when they opened up the free transfers because we wanted to help alleviate the problem on Balmung - we still ended up leaving some friends behind who didn't want to transfer off. And even with all that - the housing on the new server was completely sold out by the time we arrived, and now we're going to have to try and fight against hundreds if not thousands of other players to attempt to get a house in Shirogane. It's mind boggling how terrible this system is and continues to be and the game is four years old now. They've overhauled so many major systems but they haven't overhauled the one that is actively a major problem and levies one of the greatest amounts of complaints?

Back in 2.1 and stuff I wouldn't have cared, but the second they added Company Crafting Workshops and Airship Ventures and made them ONLY available to companies with houses? That's the moment I had a problem - because now you have crafting content that makes companies money and a TON of Free Companies can't even access it due to the terrible housing system. They need to work on fixing this - this needs to be the next major overhaul.

And more than anything -

They need to address this with the playerbase because this silence is unacceptable

I'm obviously on your side, housing needs to be addressed but people have different priorities than you first of all, and making the game come to a screeching halt until they "fix housing" isn't going to help at all. The constant complaining about oh no, perform, oh no, jump potions for retainers (something people have asked for), and oh no, glamours (another thing people have asked for) just kind of makes you look bad. :/

They should implement this but let people choose what plot they want to keep. Once a good enough amount of time has passed allowing people to choose, then they just relinquish the others to everyone else.

Personally I would wager to you that the majority of the player base cares more about the availability of housing than they do the Perform Emote. I wager they want Housing over Retainer Jump Potions and Housing is the penulntimate glamour, so giving them a dress that is female character only rather than Housing that is universal has more value.
