This "cat" lady in the art has a femroe's or highlander's body with a bigger backside so I guess it kind of represents more than one race at once.

I want to see some Femroes!
I suspect the marketing here is exactly what others have outlined in this thread above. Cats are sort of an instantly and easily recognizable race of FFXIV; Similarly wow uses Orcs in a lot of their promotional material. Mixing things up a bit could be fun and make the world of Eorzea seem like a wider, more versatile place than Catgirl: the videogame. Even wow's fanbase gets tired of seeing Orcs on everything. So give us more Femroes Squeenix! Give us variety!
As an elezen woman, I'm feel that femezen's show up on event posters enough for me, but I absolutely want to see more femroes. Seeing skimpily dressed catgirls repeatedly betrays a lack of creativity in the art team that works on them. If there's one thing I don't want to see in any part of the majority of my entertainment it is a lack of creativity. I want to see more femroes in art and such like because it shows that the team actually think and use the full range of options available to them, rather than lazily and hurriedly defaulting to female sun-miqo ladies with huge breasts. Give me something varied and unique, and I'll sit here happily considering how rich the world we play in is. Give me the same thing over and over and I'll sit here thinking about how the art team would rather pander than do something interesting and distinct.
I'm loving how it's mostly catgirls getting their tails in a twist over other races getting the limelight though, that doesn't smack of "but I want it to be all about meeeeee" at all.
The Miqo'te is the freaking highest ranked Maelstrom, aside from Merlwyb and her right hand man.
No, it's entirely relevant.
I understand a race wanting to be relevant and treated fairly and equally.
But to >ATTACK< the representation of the most popular race in the game and to try and erase their exposure just reeks of jealousy and only makes me disappointed in the Roegadyn players.
I DON'T want to bring politics into this, but it's literally akin to the extremist African-American people attacking Caucasians simply to get back at them over the decades and even centuries of years that they were abused.
Also much like radical feminists that simply want to attack and kick men down because men have been doing it for CENTURIES to them and the women of history.
We can't change the g'damn past, but we sure as hell can rally support for the future.
Kinda off-topic but everytime I see the event artworks I'm here like "why are they drawing those nice bodies but not allowing us to have our characters look so sexy in-game ?". They always draw artworks showcasing different races with nicely big boobs/butts and beautiful thighs, almost like a Blade & Soul character would look like, but we're absolutely unable to do the same with the game's character creation. It's almost false advertising at this point. I'd really like them to upgrade the character creation to at least give us a butt slider and widen the range of the booby slider a little bit. I like curvy girls but I'm forced to play as a flat one whatever the race. Even female highlanders lack butt (boobs are fine on them), and FemRoe got very beautiful faces but their bodies are just muscular, not really curvy except for the bust. If they're afraid of making female characters too sexy, why do they keep drawing hot girls all over the place on their event artworks ?
Back on topic, I'm all for more FemRoe on artworks. I think that they look really cool even if I don't play as one. I just can't stand playing tall characters just like I can't stand playing tiny characters. And look at her face. That's definitely not a miqo'te face. Looks like a midlander.
When it comes to representation, it's not about attacking one particular group. It's about trying to include everyone.
Think of it as a pie. Right now, catgirls have the largest slice of pie, while roegadyn women have the tiniest sliver.
In order to make it fair, we'd have to give roegadyn women a larger slice, but that in turn makes the catgirls' slice smaller.
When the group that has had the largest slice all the time suddenly discovers that their slice is getting smaller, they become resentful. They need to understand that it's not an attack, but rather an attempt to include others.
Why is representation important (especially in real life)?
Because it is a sign of a progressive society, one that paints a truer picture of the people who consist of it, rather than an unrealistic and uneven ideal of someone's imagining. And that's the reality we live in today. Yes, while catgirls make up an overwhelming majority of the population, it doesn't mean everyone else is non-existent.
Toxicity from the extremists (of both sides) shouldn't be tolerated or condoned. Toxicity only serves to further divide us.
That being said, we shouldn't allow the antics of extremists discredit actual, valid issues. Nor should we let our dislike of them sway us so easily as to blind us from recognizing and understanding these issues.
EDIT: I'm really talking more about real life, but this thread's topic shares parallels to them. Just wanted to give my two cents.
There are literally zero man cats in the main story. They are only background characters.
The U tribe males also appeared in the main story, and there's a strangely wide variety of male Miqo'te in the class/job quests given how rare they're meant to be (not that I'm complaining).
Even if there are a lot of people playing female Miqo'te, I suspect a portion of that group is still happy to see more variety in the artwork from time to time. I especially like group shots!
Not pc enough
This topic is making me want to Fantasia into a Roegadame.
Minority = less representation. Fair.
That's not actually the case, midlanders actually appear more often - just. But the overall appearances are broadly in line with the proportions of race and gender. That doesn't excuse the exclusion of particular combinations, but does reflect relative fairness of representation based on player population.
I honestly don't know why you act as though the Crystal Tower quests are less significant though.
They're just as involved as most segments of the main story and are important to the lore/background of Eorzea.
Swapping G'raha and... Pipin for example would not have really been an improvement to his role/prominence in my eyes. He'd be in the main story, but he be no more significant a character, so... eh.
The point of mentioning it being referenced in the main story is, it's canon. It happened. Crystal Tower is part of the story now. And not an insignificant part.
Likewise if there were a prominent Female Roe in the Sky Pirate saga and that whole endavour ends up being brought up in some main-scenario discussion (journey back to Mhach?), I would consider it just as valid.
If it were a class quest or a side-quest, you could say that it is merely a what-if since players can skip it and it doesn't necessarily integrate to anything else in any way, but the raid story-lines should not be shirked off.
But moving beyond that, who would you have replaced in the main scenario then? I guess you could argue Pipin, Kemp, Fordola, or M'naago are replaceable. Other than that though, there's not much choice that would make a lot of sense.
Leave Pipin alone. With luck will take a more active role. It's all I have to say.
