There is the carrot on a stick and then there's a carrot on the world's longest selfie stick. Most of the debate on this thread is with regard to the latter, and on rare occasion, on how the carrot is too tiny or unappealing.

so AGAIN they nerfed the requirements to get a mount, wich wasn't even that rare.
6 ixion horns for gold, means you need only 2 fates instead of 6. i camped whole days to get my Ixion, over 2 weeks. that was a joke compared to the tiger, but still i invested some time and now they hand the mount out much easier.
just - WHY?
why can everyone have my Fenrir, my Ixion, my Ex Primal Mounts now for much less work but i can't have the PvP and Hunt Mounts?
no i don't ask to hand me out that PvP and Hunt mounts, i ask to stop hand out the rewards from all the other content.
So? I invested time into Ixion as well, and I'm actually glad they increased the rewards. Weeks of camping wasn't fun. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. The EX Primal mounts? Old content. Fenrir? Not even hard to get. Just a really long grind. What a ridiculous sense of entitlement. Sorry, not everything in this game needs to be rare and for the few.
Now, this tiger mount is one I don't see myself ever getting. The requirements are just way too much.
Same, I sank a good amount of time camping for ixion but I don't mind others having an easier time obtaining it. It doesn't devalue my ixion mount or anything. I find it a good gesture now that the other players who haven't got it yet will have a easier time getting it and less congestion on the map for players that need to be there for any other reasons.
Do you want those mounts because you genuily like them or because they are "special"? Why is it hurting you that they're easier to get?
I grinded my Fenrir-exp for four months or so (because it became as easy as it is now) because I fell in love with him the first time I saw him in snowcloak. I wanted that mount because of the mount - not because to feel special in any way. Same with all my EX-primal-mounts. They dont lose value for me because someone else can have them too. I have several PvP-mounts aswell and I love my little horsie - not because it makes me special but because I like the mount itself...
(also: in a sense you've got an easier time now to get certain PvP-mounts. PvP itself got "nerfed" and made more attractive, so now your queuetimes are down to 5 minutes instead of the 2 hours I used to wait back in the old days... there you go: you still have to put an effort into it, even though its a little less than I had to do. Same with the other mounts you've mentioned. A person still has to do the FATE for Ixion. A person still has to get a million MGP for Fenrir. A person still has to clear an EX-primal 99 times or get lucky with the drop for the birds. Everything got a little easier - or rather: less time consuming.)
And specially in the case of Ixion its a very good thing that will hopefully help to get people out of The Lochs and make it possible to remove instances soon - they're more of a hassle than a few people feeling less special because they have to share their mount...
At least with most of the other mounts:
1) Ixion horns were increased (and there are still several instances / chances to get it)
2) MGP rewards were increased, making Fenrir more obtainable
3) Ex primals used to not have the 99 token option - that was added if your RNG was truly abysmal
Those are a step in the right direction. Now if they would look at the Tiger achievement and the mentor one along these same lines, that would be admirable.
I like grinds. I got every anima relic weapon completed before SB. I pounded my way through 2000 mentor roulettes. I cleared sophex 124 while it was current content. I'm well on my way to hitting level 70 on every class. I'm casually grinding tank clears out. I'm very efficient about how to go about grinding things out and how to fit everything together in such a way that I can grind out multiple things at once. I like to wow and amaze by having cleared not just one insane grind, but multiple.
I live for grinds. I am an achievement chaser.
I took one look at the requirements for the tiger mount and the time it would actually take and decided that even for someone like me, who literally grinds stuff out until it's done, that it was impossible. You don't get the tiger mount if you're just getting into hunting now. You get the tiger mount if you've done nothing but hunt since hunts were a twinkle in daddy yoshi's eye. That's the problem: I'd grind it out for three months (like I did with mentors), or plan my resources carefully to maximise progress (like I did with anima), or I'd do literally nothing else until I had enough tokens (like I did with sophex), but the tiger mount will take actual years if you do anything but chase it, and still take over a year to get, which is way too long.
Pretty much. I'd had gotten the mentor roulette too if not because I didn't like the design of it. I love to grind for stuff, but this is on another level. The biggest issue with the tiger mount is, there's an artificial time gating behind it and you will more or less be tunneled into a single content while grinding for it. And with the recent change to veteran program, it really makes me wonder why SE decided on this achievement which put fresh players/hunters at a disadvantage when they finally decided to add the tiger mount into the game. Contradiction much?
And let's be real, hunting doesn't need any more incentive if it follows the previous pattern.
What irritates me is that S-ranks don't NEED an incentive to bring them down. Even during times when the hunt-hype dies down, there's rarely difficulty wrangling enough folks to down an S-rank mob.
A reward like this should be granted for doing stuff like megaboss FATEs - Coeurlregina, Behemoth, Odin, and so on. Right now, once folks get their fedora or whatever, they tend to have little interest in hunting the kitty. Lock a mount behind 2000 wins, and folks will be more likely to join in. Personally, I'd keep the requirements loose (2000 wins of ANY megaboss, so that folks will be as hyped for Odin as they would be for Ixion).
But a reward for long term hunters? Unnecessary. If anything, hunts could use some DISincentives, since popular hunts are already way overcrowded. (Or, more ideally, make hunt marks tougher.) At least Astrope had the advantage that it got more mentors doing roulettes (even if the quality of those mentors took a sharp downturn...).
While I agree with your suggestion, if the tiger mount was to be moved to mega boss FATEs, they will have to drop the number sharply to like 200 or even 100. Reason being there's much lesser mega boss FATEs than S ranks and they too have artificial time gate.
Personally I still think we should get an alternative way to obtain the tiger mount. So if a veteran hunter got it by hunting, good for them, but for late starters perhaps they could obtain it via another method that will hopefully have a beneficial effect or something. Like one I suggested before; reward for getting all 3 SB tank mounts. That's a whole load of time sink and effort required, you CAN do a verity of content to obtain it and best of all, it help shorten DF queue time. A small bonus where the tiger mount also fit in the beast theme for tank mounts too. Or perhaps 1000 mentor roulette? It's a good mid-way reward for those farming for Astrope, additional bonus on top of the previous suggestion in that you can run any job instead.
in regards to this matter if there is to be a solution then i would have SE put the original tiger as a hunt reward obtained through centurio seals which can be used to buy the veteran clan mark log to obtain the whistle. then have a re-colored tiger for the achievement say like a gold or white tiger? then that would make people happy to have at least one of the tiger mounts in favor of the other. this would greatly alleviate the tension and struggle of obtaining this mount.
i like special stuff. except it's really ugly like the chocbo for 3000 commendations xD
the harder the work, the more i like the reward. i work hard and get a special reward and i can feel special too because of this. now someone else get the same reward for much less work. now that reward is not special anymore, anyone can get it without much effort, wich means even me, who worked much harder and was special because of that reward, is not special anymore. all my hard work is wasted.
i agree with the problem in the lochs with the campers and stuff, but i don't agree in general that they nerf all those rewards. i have to dump my gear every few months in the trash can. at least mounts and minions should stay.
Ok, I have no real dog in this topic, but this statement kinda irks me a bit. It is still special, your hard work wasn't 'wasted' because you still put the work in and got the thing. Just because someone else can get it for less does not change the fact you put the work in. In fact, that should make it MORE special! Because you put the work in when it WAS hard to get. You put the work in when it was a pain to farm. The only thing making it less special is yourself, the only one devaluing the effort you put in is yourself. The people who get the thing from the nerfed instance will never know the same joy you had when you finally earned it. That is why it is still special, not because it was hard to get. Exclusivity doesn't make things special, it just makes them exclusive.
I have the answer:
SE1 - What do we do? Hunt is as crap as always! We need to get player back on it to not feel like we did it for nothing!
SE2 - What do players want the most lately?
SE1 - Hum... the tiger mount?
SE2 - Then put it in the hunt. In a way it would requier decades.
This dialogue is worth for mentor roulette too
The requirements are admittedly insane, but not to the players who are and have been into hunting. They are seriously committed and should get some kind of crazy reward like the tiger mount, because there are WAY too many deadbeats and leechers out there who join a hunt LS and apparently prioritize other shit more and ignore hunt calls 99% of the time.
As a person who would love to have this mount, but will likely never get to have it...
I'm OK with this.
It's a shame that the "everything should be available to everyone" cancer has leaked in to other games..and we all know where it's coming from...
Its just so annoying since first people wished for the hellhound mount and they put that beyond PVP with a very small limit..and next to that people again wished for a tiger mount and instead of making it a tanking achievement (like get all the three tanks achievements and you will get this one..just like Kirin in a way) or let us buy it with tokens, they put it beyond another big wall which will not take months if you started it but years of constantly getting all the hunts. At the same time most of the old hunts can be done solo or with a very small group.
I rarely see people actually doing hunts these days. I go by so many A ranks just sitting there, I call them out and no one shows. Heck, even the hunt LS I was in disbanded.
Players are probably skipping A ranks in favor of raid and/or leveling. I doubt S rank will have the same issue, which is the part most people are pointing out in this thread. Once SE add upgrade items to hunt vendors, you will see the return of the horde. Of course, that's assuming that they follow the previous pattern.
I actually thought of the hellhound mount when I was typing my previous comment. I understand the frustration. I was never in the camp of exclusive rarity, and I do want the hellhound mount but I know I won't be getting it due to the lack of skill and interest in a competitive pvp mode. However, in the case of the hellhound mount, I find it easier to accept how it was since I understand rank pvp do need a shiny incentive, and the mount is SE's answer to it. Of course this is subjective to one personal view on exclusive rarity.
The tiger mount though... I don't know, personally I think it's better to utilize it as carrot elsewhere. Maybe be a overall tank mount collection like we both suggested, be a healer mount that some players has been asking (lore wise a tiger for healer mount does raise the eyebrown a little), or maybe put it as the new 24 man raid roulette achievement that SE spoke of creating in the future? I just don't think hunt need further incentive if it follows the previous pattern of putting upgrade materials for purchase with hunt logs. Along with the poor combination of high requirements behind an artificial time gate, you can't really blame some players for questioning how it even ended up here in the first place.
Yeah, how dare people try to get anything else done in this game. If you don't instantly abandon your DF parties the moment you hear a hunt call you obviously don't deserve your spot in the hunt LS.Quote:

It's just mind-boggling to me that, in order to revive stale, broken or otherwise skewed content (hunts and PVP - particularly before its current changes), they lock much-wanted mounts behind insane and practically unattainable conditions for the majority of the player base. Of course, that's not to say that hunters or extreme PVPers don't deserve rewards -- they do. But don't lock them behind "no-life" requirements like Top 100 per DATA CENTER (not even server!) or 2,000 S-Rank hunts + 1,000 A-Rank hunts.
I get that you want to make subscriptions last, SE. But let players work toward it on their own time so that eventually, whether you're into the grind or you're not, you can actually and realistically attain these things. Why could the PVP mounts not be bought with a high number of Wolf Marks (what good are they, anyway?) or the tiger with Centurio seals?
Kinda tired of every new mount being gated behind either a impossible achievement, or savage clear.
As an aside, a lot of people aren't complaining because of 'entitlement'. They're putting forward legitimate complains because quite a lot of people spoke up when they saw the tiger model when it it was added to the game as an enemy and made it clear that they thought it would make for a neat inclusion. Instead of being made into something that those players could work towards, though, it is locked behind a pretty ridiculous grind.
grind in an MMO??!?!? by the twelve! =p
I wouldn't even mind the "grind" - if it were something you could work toward when you have time - like with the tank mounts, most of the PVP mounts, etc. If some other tank in the party kills Garuda first during a trial, it's not like you didn't get credit. Or if they were one of the first tanks ever in their data center to kill her (but that time has long since passed), it's not like you don't have an equal shot. But that's exactly what has happened with both the much-desired Hellhounds and the Centurio tiger.
They just need to create badass unique looking pvp gear or weapons (with they did this season) and one should have enough rewards for a relative small group of dedicated PVPers. Also hunts always had lots of carrots to do. You will have mounts, pets, items to increase your gear and more locked behind hunts and since SB you will also have to hunt to unlock mount speed. IMO that its already way enough as rewards. No other content imo has that much of an reward than those two. Heck even the most difficult content has only the dyeable version of the normal gear set and maybe a mount.
I just dont understand why those two parts of the game deserve so much exclusive stuff which is often also limited or really hard to get (like the two wanted mounts) yet you wont find such a limit in other content. You will always be able to get the mounts from extreme versions or savage if you either buy a clear, be able to clear it when its still recent or you just wait till later when the drops rates are higher and you can unsynch it. So why do hunts and PVP deserve such an extra treatment? And before someone says it: No I dont mean that they should not have their mounts and stuff but PVP already has lots of mounts behind their maps which need a bit of grinding and winning to get them and hunts have a mount and pet too. So imo already way enough.
I understand grind in an MMO, but this particular grind takes over a year minimum and that is if you have no-life and can be logged in 24/7 and get every single S-Rank ever. This is a far harder grind then even relic weapons were way back when in FFXI first came out.
A reasonable guess for the major player base would probably be threeish years at the current requirements. There is no gaurantee that the game will even be running still in three years with the way that the player base fluctuates so much after each expansion.
