I'd be willing to put gil down that this is either a typo, or traits kick in automatically at that interval. Namely, you're first attack every 5 seconds gets an Att+. I'm leaning very much toward it being a clerical error though.

Piety got changed AGAIN?
Shame we can't reallocate after we've done it once in 1.20; better make sure you get it right the first time. I guess this means I won't be switching between PGL and CNJ during 1.20 too because my stat allocation won't allow me to change. Could be me misreading things, but sounds like we won't be able to reallocate stats changed in 1.20 until 1.21 at the earliest? (or 1.20b, whichever).
My main concern is that there honestly doesn't seem that much for us to DO. Couple more GC quests, new Primal battle and...that's about it. I'll have to try 1.20 myself but not sure on what I've seen in the notes yet.
Well, I've some comments, mostly good.
New quests and Grand Company ranks: Yay! \o/
Mogfight: Why does the music remind me of Halloween Town in KH? Brrr.
Attribute points: I'm so happy to see these returning. It's a little thing, but it really makes your character feel like your own.
The effects of Protect and Shell: If that means you can only use one or the other, I think that sounds like more interesting play. Currently, Protect and Shell almost might as well be one effect because few people have one without the other. This way, one would have to choose which one will be more advantageous at any given time. If that is true and not a mistranslation, sounds good.
Interrupting spellcasting by movement: On this one, I am disappointed. Running by an enemy to turn around and "fire" is cool. Standing there, not so much. This is something I considered to be a feature that other mmos do not have. Not only would I not like to see it gone, I'd like to see it improved. In lower levels, it might not make sense to be able to do, but in higher levels, I think it makes perfect sense (maybe it could be a trait). It reminds me of a scene in Scrapped Princess when Raquel completely bested another mage because she said a short three or four word chant while he was gearing up with a long and dramatic (and stationary) one. It was really funny. :)
Achievements: I love the achievements, and I really like how you have to unlock them instead of it just being given to you. I love that we get real rewards for them. I'm really excited for this one.
The Seeking Party feature looks real nice, as does the micro menu. The new emotes made me laugh. They're cute.
Last but not least... I still have the same reservations about conjurer and lore that I did before, but the classes do look real nice, and I look forward to trying the new combos and the conjurer class abilities in of itself. I just still think it doesn't fit right with the lore. :( Will the conjurer story be changing with 2.0?
I also can't help but notice that there is no mention of the jobs. Are there still going to be jobs, or is this getting re-thought? The classes seem like they will work just fine in a party setting without jobs. Just wondering if anything has changed.
Oh, btw, thank you for naming magic attacks fire, fira, firaga, etc. You guys probably had that in mind to begin with, but thank you anyway. I'm really happy to see the names retained. I hope the rest of them make their way in eventually.
Overall nice job. I know you guys are working hard. Thank you to all the dev team. :)
I'm very excited for this patch.
Like most sneak previews of patch notes, we have quite a few typos and/or unclear descriptions.
For instance:
Lominsan Guisarme requires ARC and LNC?? (obvious typo)
All THM elemental spells are exclusive except fire spells? (not sure..)
The Protect/Shell issue. (Maybe Shell will be a WHM spell?)
All Traits have recast timers of 5sec except for the 'Swift' variety (Swift Bloodbath, Swift Foresight, etc..)" which have 45sec timers. Do traits trigger automatically when you use the corresponding action? If so, what about traits like: Ehhanced Physical Defense II (sic) and Auto-Refresh? What would trigger the +10 def and MP refresh?
You tricked me Yoshi.
This patch has far more content then previously indicated.
Hahaha I thought the Lalafell's head was a shield.
Hey gang,
Just a heads up that we've been working on correcting the copy and paste-related errors that appeared throughout the "Item"-related section of the patch notes. We'll continue looking through the list and making fixes as needed.
As for the questions related to specific parts/changes/adjustments, we'll be working to get clarification where possible to pass along to everyone.
Looks like someone was up late typing all this out.
It happens, carry on, keep up the awesomeness Bay.
Hi Nakiamiie,
Good point. That might also explain this Pugilist ability (Taunt):
Taunt - Temporarily focuses the target's attacks on you.
This certainly creates more synergy between various classes and more coordination. It makes the Pugilist very useful to turn a Mob and allow others to get in Back Attacks. So for Gladiator, I could see Pugilist using Taunt, and then get in their Weaponskill Combo.
It certainly makes things more interesting (but also more dangerous potentially). It still is a bit sad that the Gladiator's biggest weaponskills seem to be very situational, and a bit counter to their main role (to tank and gain all aggro on a mob).
But if it works w/ Taunt, this could be quite fun. :)
Hi Bayohne,
Thanks for the clean up effort. :) One typo still appearing in the Items section right now (after your post) is this one under Items:
≪The Maelstrom≫
Storm Private Second Class
ItemDetails
Storm Private Second Class Unique Untradable Gladiator’s Arm
Requires GLA
Required Level 40Damage: 59 Delay: 2.5
Accuracy: +8
Parry: +5
I don't think the "Item" is supposed to be called "Storm Private Second Class". ;)
Thanks for the fixes.
I love everything this patch has to offer. It looks like a more balanced gameplay setting.
My one question however. As a Gladiator, looking at how stats work, it seems like I have four stats to focus on (VIT/STR/MND/DEX). Each give me a benefit to my class, I only wonder how I should properly gear myself. I guess testing the new mechanics will give me a better idea. Probably hold off putting points in my character till I get a better idea from others.
I forget if I posted how excited I am to see boar hide drop from more boars/hogs! Preferably the ones in Ever Lakes so that we can aaaall share. Rather than those two spots in Treespeak making up virtually all of the new boar hide in 1.19.
Yay for +success with secondary tools.
Aw man on the single yield for ore and matter.
Yay on the the bait/lure and fish combo +success and shorter wait. Shamelessly awaits Vespie's new fishing guide.
/happy is so happy!!! I can't wait to see a lalafell do it! /grovel looks like someone got hit in the nether regions. I imagine some combination of /grovel and /disappointed will be used to make candid shots.
Gladiator 14 ~ Flash?! Increases target's enmity. Ineffective during Mardi Gras and nudists.
I'm curious about the damage boosts for Pugilist on things like Blindside, where MND seems to play a factor?
Lowered requirement over all on cross class abilities with later abilities being exclusive. I like this. Don't have to cross-level up as much to take away the abilities. New players usually want to stick with one class and be able to perform well. When they have to switch to level up sub-jobs or other classes to perform on a decent level, it's a bit discouraging (regardless of the XP pace).
It's like playing MMORPG X, but to tank on my fighter, I need to make alts for champion, breaker, berzerker, and house master.
Anyhew, I like these patch notes! Think I forgot to express that earlier.
Hello everyone! I just wanted to make an appearance in here to let you know that the Square Enix Music Blog was updated with some samples of the new BGMs from patch 1.20!
http://blog.jp.square-enix.com/music/cm_blog/soken/
Just hit the play button on the bottom of the post to give them a listen. Enjoy! ^_^
Thank you for the clarification on point 8. I will definately be practicing with it to find out for sure.
As for point 3....it has been my experience that people will always stay with what has worked unles change is forced upon them. So long as the current popular party set ups are effective that is what people will want. I hope I am wrong and you are right, we will see.
By giving Mrd Provoke SE is going back to their roots. In FFXI Warrior was the only job to have Provoke. Paladin only got it when it subbed War. I am assuming that the same thought processes are involved here.
One note here:
It seems like the item:
Rainmakers Tunic (Blue)
Is not in this list that is being renamed. Will this item still have it's bonus stats on it? Did the developers just miss this in the post or is the Rainmaker Tunic gettting the bonus that the Blue one had?
If a developer is reading this can you please check on this. Thank you.
Also, there are numerous typos, you might what to re-proof this post.
So much good music, I hope these replace some of the zone music :D, no like mistbeard music in thanalan!
Certain parts of the 1.20 patch music sound rather like "Nightmare before Christmas" (starting from 2:45).
Has it been mentioned yet that all the traits in the CNJ section are missing the "Exclusive" tag?
look like puglist will finally be a real DD now :)
then next year monk :)

Kind of figured they would be making CNJ a bit like a SCH. I just wish we would get this update already so I can continue leveling/relearning.
Maybe someone has already brought this up, but I would assume that Bard is the reason for archer losing their distance/accuracy equation. It would be very difficult to maintain proper attack distance when you also have to be running around singing songs to everybody. In general I think the ability adjustments in this patch are a nice little preview of the coming job system.
