And no its not a 1 to 1 ratio but if you are a good tank or healer and you run any content if you didnt have unsync runs clouding your instances you would or should have more commendations than instances based on role and performance, dps are just there like I said you could easily take one blm put them in any instance or dungeon aside from trail and clear every dungeon in the game just fine.
You cant have 3 dps and a healer or 1 tank and three dps and clear hardly anything in the game. So its a mixture of both performance and playing important roles in the game, to think people just are so nice they are just giving out commendations because your there is just simply not true. Because they will surely let you no when your screwing up , so why would they not let you know if your doing your job correctly. -

Commendations don't mean you are good at the game nor can they be used as a guide. That's just simple fact. The game itself is not the one giving the commendation. The commendations are coming from other players with a subjective view.
Some players commend simply for glamour/nice character look.
Some players commend simply for saying hello or chatting.
Some players commend for no real reason at all just to get the challenge log.
Some players commend on if they feel you did good (but this is subjective and unless you know this player has credentials to praise you then it means nothing)
So yeah sometimes you might get a commendation from someone who thinks you did good, but that doesn't mean you factually did good.
You would have to find someone with a lot of knowledge about the game and also a lot of knowledge about the class you are playing to get feedback on whether or not you are playing properly. Random PUGs in DF, unless you ask them, you don't know how much experience they have and being commended by someone with unknown credentials doesn't actually mean much.
Like if you were a medical student and you did a simulation operation as a test. Your friend (who is not studying medicine, is not a surgeon/doctor, and knows nothing of medical practices) and your PHD holding professor who has been a surgeon for 30 years is watching your performance.
After the test is over your friend cheers at you and tells you what a perfect job you did and that you didn't make any mistakes.
Your Professor on the other hand says he saw you make many critical mistakes.
Which one would you listen to?
I would think obviously the one with the credentials, your Professor.
In DF you don't know if any of them have credentials to tell you that you are doing good at the game or the job you are playing and like myself and others have stated some people give commendations for completely arbitrary reasons so any commendations you get doesn't mean you did good.
Some might commend you for skill, but how would you know when someone commended you for skill and not simply your glamour and if they have the knowledge about the game/job to actually be correct with their praise? -

Frame of reference is important here. You're talking about your friends, I'm talking about mine. Neither are a representation of the community on a whole. People comm for different reasons. Sometimes it's to pat you on the back, sometimes it can be an appreciation for something small, others it can be challenge log. -

Ok, as a DPS main, I have commendations slightly over half the amount of dungeons I did, and most of those were because of picture macros, my "Holy hand grenade" reference macro during AV runs, talking to people and also because I used my skills like many ignore. People tend to pick tanks and healers because they usually have to wait on them, among other reasons, not because they're more 'important' than DPS. Try using a full team of tanks and healers in recent content and clear through Enrage, since DPS is pointless according to you.Quote:

Giving someone commendation is subjective. I have given players who were funny or talked with me a commendation over those that preformed better. I have given commendation to someone who has nice glamour and to those that are kind towards their follow player. The whole giving commendation to someone is silly, we can only reward one player our of the 3/7 party members. If you get a tank that is stance dancing and doing a good job at both roles or a healer that is healing and dpsing very well and dps that is giving it all. Who should I give a commendation? Tanks, because they are rare? Healers, because they preforming two roles or the DPS that is showing you that not all DPS are clueless or lazy.

How can you judge whos is contributing the most, there are no tools to see this ingame. What about if there is more then 1 player that is contributing the most? Lets not forget alot of players just give the commendation to the tank or healer, because they value those roles more then the dps ones. So even if you have a tank that is never using defensive cooldowns, a healer that is not dpsing and just standing there or a dps that is preforming very well, odds are alot of players will still give the tank or healer the commendation, because of the negative stigma that the dps role has. -

If stuff dies fairly quickly and you avoid avoidable damage, thats not you being an exemplary dps, thats you doing basics. If no one dies, thats not you being an exemplary healer, thats you healing.
You don't get comms for this. You get comms for being different. -

Dps speeds up runs, they pass dps checks, kill before enrage timers, support, debuff and buff, help mp starved healers, help raise TP, help with enmity and more. Guess all of these are meaningless in the game though?
