How do you feel about Dancer not being added with this expansion?

Yeah, I know it said Doma lol, but after the trailer panned and passed Doma, it then went to Kugane? The underwater city. Then the camera moved to Shishu(?) where all the event about our samurai is in. The trailer doesn't show anything about Doma at all from what I see though. I'm not sure where people claim from the trailer that Doma wasn't burnt to the ground...but the city we saw isn't Doma in the first place?

I am relieved, I wanted Dancer to be the first melee healer and if Dancer was added in Stormblood, it would have become a DPS. I think Samurai was a good class, it fits with the Othard setting.

I'm glad it was Samurai.

Dancer was never hinted at, so I have no clue why players are complaining because it wasn't a new job.

A bit disapointed cause I saw it as a new healer gameplay and I realise I'm stuck with WHM for the next 2 years :/

Let me just start by saying ultimately I want all of the classic jobs in XIV. That said, though I think it will be cool when/if it comes, I'm just happy SAM is happening right now.

I feel the same way. I'm getting so bored with the healers we have because they are so simliar. I would love something new refreshing. Depending on the game play changes, I may switch over to DPS or tank main to spice it up.

I do not think there is an actual reason to have thought it was a Dancer to begin with. As MNK is currently my main DPS many of her animations were completely recognizable not only to those that have leveled MNK but to those that have any interest in eastern martial arts. I'm disappointed but not surprised either. The evidence pointing towards DNC as a job was a bit reaching in my opinion so I wasn't having any high expectation of it actually occurring.

To be fair to the OP, Yoshida did say that his team has 2 jobs ready, and is almost done with a 3rd, so there's a good chance a 3rd job might make it for stormblood.

But as we saw, they either didnt finish, or decided to hold off on it for the next expansion.

Did people really want that to be dancer? It moved, fought and acted so much like Monk I would have been horribly disappointed.
I don't want new jobs solely for the name. I want Dancer, whenever it comes, to be it's own thing. Not some shadow of a previous job.

I mean Yoshi P didn't wear a third shirt, nor was there any hint of a dancer in the trailer. I.E. there was nothing there to give them hopes of a dancer. We all knew that it was going to be RDM and SAM even before they were revealed at the fan fests. Is that too difficult to understand?

We all 'knew' before they were announced? We 'knew' it? Really?

As for being difficult to understand, of course it's not difficult to understand that RDM and SAM were announced. Nor is it difficult to understand that some players who wanted Dancer in StormBlood are disappointed about it not being there. In which case I have to wonder whether you're intentionally picking a fight in this topic, since it can't possibly harder to understand that disappointment than it is to understand others' expectations.

SAM was datamined last month, bro

I am sad, I really wanted Dancer but oh well, it'll be in the next expansion I assume because so many people wanted it after RDM/SAM in terms of popularity.

The underwater city was unnamed, Kugane was the city where the Samurai was shown.

While the trailer itself didn't show anything about Doma, it was one of the areas discussed in the Keynote itself, complete with screenshots. It did not look "Burned to the Ground" at all. Why? Maybe because time has passed and it's far more likely that the Garlean occupation force would repair and repurpose the city than just leave it a smoldering ruin.

I feel fine about not having Dancer yet, if only out of some lingering hope that combat will eventually becomes less narrowly defined in the future, and that Dancer might arrive after or as a vehicle of that change. /shrug

So here's what you do to both speculate the next new job(s), and not hype yourself up for disappointment:

- Pay attention to characters in the story suddenly exhibiting new/surprise abilities, or changing their combat styles entirely (Thancred adapting Yugiri's style back in 2.2, Illberd's use of swords and magic, Alisae and her swordsmanship, etc.)
- Pay close attention to any jobs literally name dropped. Rogue/Ninja, Red Mage, and Samurai were FREQUENTLY mentioned til now.
- Make no assumptions, but instead try to connect the dots for what you see and what's been seen (FYI, Dancer has never been mentioned. . . but Blue Mage has)

That last sentence went beyond an observation and into questioning comprehension. No one's comprehension was in question, just how they *FEEL* about Dancer not being in Stormblood.

It seems some people - including yourself - have some need to prove a point about whether or not expectation of Dancer being included was realistic or not. Why is that exactly? It's completely irrelevant. What is relevant is whether people are elated, disappointed, indifferent or whatever to the fact that dancer was not included, that was the point of the OP, how do people feel about it.

Asking "Is that too difficult to understand?" is neither a simple observation nor a statement of how you feel. To me, it feels that your question comes quite close to suggesting people are not smart enough to understand if they don't agree with you.

Do the feelings of those disappointed by a lack of Dancer cause any problem for you or others? Does it affect anything material?

Personally, I'm disappointed at the lack of inclusion of Dancer, I think Dancer would have been a nice change of pace. I'm happy about the inclusion of Samurai since Yoshi mentioned Kurosawa's Seven Samurai as inspiration, I don't know about Red Mage, but it's aesthetic looks cool. I hope that reading my opinion and feeling about Dancer caused you no harm.

Doesn't matter if wasn't hinted or anything, the first trailer gave off an impression that the girl was something other than a Monk because of Dancer-ish clothes and using the clothes as part of attack. Jumping as Featherfoot means nothing, Dancer could cross off monk or whatever, idk.

I was really hoping there would be SAM tank, RDM dps and DNC as healer (dance to aoe heal/buff/etc, whatever).

How can you say this? when we have no clue if it would be tank,dps or healer or anything about how it would work in 14. If you are trying to base it on FFXI version then it's a waste of time as it will probably be completely different. For instance I absolutely loved BLM and SMN in 11 whereas in 14 I can't stand either.

I can say this because that is how I feel. I never played XI, so I am not comparing anything against it. As far as being a change of pace, well, all the tanks are specifically melee fighters. Physical DPS are all pretty standard melee or ranged physical attackers, and all the casters are well known variants on the standard 'mage'. Dancer doesn't fit those existing archetypes, while I'm not sure exactly how it would be implemented in FFXIV, I think it would be a clear departure in style from existing melee and caster types.

Well before any new jobs were revealed, even before the fan festivals, Yoshi P noted that adding 3 new jobs all at once (and then having to balance them) proved to be a bit too much for them. He again said this at fan fest recently. It's an easy miss, especially as hype and speculation built up to the reveals, but expecting more than 2 was a bit far fetched. Easy, considering we got 3 in Heavensward, but if it was too much, why repeat that and have issues?

I'll take 2 jobs done and balanced well over 3 just to satisfy numbers.

Didn't and still don't care.

Always knew it was two Monks in the opening so the Dancer thing held no weight to me. A dancer has never matched a Monk blow for blow in any game, and they don't fight barehanded.

I actually hope 5.0 has DNC + a new tank, but for 4.0 my disappointment is zero. Dancer hype started because people misunderstood something and then just kept running with it.

I'm more disappointed that the Spiderman shirt actually meant Sam Raimi and not BLU. Would have like to have seen 3 or 4 jobs:

-BLU tank
-DNC healer
-RDM (and SAM dps)

I'd say I'm pretty disappointed, but to be perfectly frank? I'm *used* to being disappointed by now about jobs and when we get them. For ages the dev team was talking ninja AND guns and I was so ready for guns! Then it turned into a 'lol just kidding, y'all get ninja now, gotta wait for guns." And I had zero interest in ninja. And then musketeer didn't materialize and we got the bleh that is machinist. So yeah. I watched the trailer, I saw the dancing in red and the weapon fly out of the sleeve and my thought was WHOO! We are back to using battle silks for dancer a la FFT! :D :D

I should have known better.

I do feel that Square had a great opportunity here to introduce dancer and it would have made every bit of sense. The Corpse Brigade (out of Ala Mhigo, remember?) out in S. Than are dubbed Fistdancer, Swordancer, and Firedancer. It would make sense in that context for Ala Mhigo to have combatant dancers and mesh other disciplines with it as well.

So yeah. I'm disappointed no dancer. I'm not surprised that I'm disappointed yet again. At least with them adding two new dps jobs, me and the hubs can offer dungeon runs for the poor sods leveling them as a tank/heals team.

As one who has trained in traditional Kung Fu, which includes practicing forms, I never saw the girl as anything but a monk. That said, while I was somewhat hoping to see Dancer in, I have no particular high or low feelings about it, because what I cared about most is that I'm finally getting Red Mage.

I see, I didn't attend the fanfes, so I based it off the trailer, and the enlarged map someone posted. Thanks for the information andu correction.

I am indifferent, because i knew from the beginning that there was not going to be a dancer. From the moment the teaser launched and people were screaming about the dancer being revealed in the trailer. I tried to explain that she was not a dancer, and she using the same fighting style as him, and that she was practicing her forms before she initiated combat.

And people retorted with "the base class must be pugilist". Even though they specifically stated that they were no longer doing base classes, and they were certainly not going to have two jobs tied to the same base class again.

People clamoured about how she had a blade sheathed in her dress and that must be the DNC weapon, even though NPCs get stuff we don't all the time, and a cinematic is nothing to base actual gameplay mechanics on.

People like to revel in their denial, rather than observe the facts as they are presented.

They only did that for ninja because the job was not going to be ready for launch, and rather than delay the launch of the game based on one job, they decided to add it later.
