To be honest Black Mage is already Ifrit in a Can. It does the better job of summoning Hellfire on enemies then the Summoner can.
Me and several people just refer Fire 4 to "Balls of Ifrit".

The Pet system is too limited (and by design, since SE have long said they won't make Pet micromanagement any more complex) for new Egi to be worth it. I don't think Pet Glamour is worth it either. A simple solution could've been to just tweak the existing system to encourage Pet swapping during battle (e.g make the Summon spells oGCD, but with a shared CD among them), so at least they'd be more involved than they are now.
Agreed on this. But to be honest I would like to see the summoner be a summoner. A bit like the one in FFT and many others where go invoke the creature and actually fights by your side causing a big chunk of damage.
I just don't feel the summoner is actually doing a summoner job if you know what I mean.
I was never really fond of FFXI for many reasons but the way they handle the summon image was great. Something like this incorporated into XIV would of been ace

hope Yoship and co are paying attention
Well I'm not going to call it PS3 limitation but the pet micromanagement decision is really because of controller limitation.
There are many creative methods to make it work though. One is to have carby as a blank summon. Then you cast get 6 egi summons; 2 tank, 2 single target, 2 AoE. These Egi's will take the place of carby for 30 secs with a minute recast cool down. They have a basic 3 sec attack, buff/debuff, and signature attack that cast right before they disappear. Then drop trance and make it second, non controllable, pet that last for 20 secs.
i wouldnt blame controllers per se, its the entire battle system and aoe dodging and such that make this sort of thing complicated, i would probably bash my head into the wall if i had to worry about controlling my pet and my character out of harms way while keeping dps up personally, at least thats how i see it - in some fights i rather prefer to be a one time blast summoner than to watch my pet die several times in the same fight(looking at you first boss of hullbreaker(hard))
They are, they're listening just that I can understand how they want to keep you feeling like Ifrit is all powerful..but would it really diminish the way we see them you think? Right now think of Ifrit, now think of how easy he is for his HM / EX modes due to how high of a level we can be when we fight him.
For a while I backed them up for saying they didn't want to make the primals feel lesser due to everyone running around with them. For me though, they already feel like that due to me going in and destroying them with ease now. It made more sense that you got a fraction of their power in the world of XI, I think it might be time that Summoners have the knowledge to summon these fractions of powerful beings with a few adjustments.
Besides their looks though, their abilities need some tweaks too I would think.
Eight days til we know whether or not they can deliver on the Egi glamours =0
