Then everyone who doesn't pvp would get mad and unsub because they'd feel forced into it. SE wouldn't do that.

The size comparison of the mapping in FF14 and the mapping in WoW is a little too vast. WoW is built specifically for both PvE and PvP, while FF14 is built specifically for PvE, with PvP being put to the side with its own series of modes. If you were to enable a PvP server, then you can forget about making any progress, as the areas are far too small to have anyone not resort to camping entrance points (intentionally or not), as any other part of the map is sprinkled with monsters. The fun is taken out of it, when you feel like you're being spoon fed handicapped situations, no matter where you engage a player from.
You could argue the exception of Heavensward. But who would make a PvP server, just specifically for a portion of what the game has to offer?
Why would you enjoy ruining another players game? Says a lot about what kind of a person you are. PvP is just an e-peen fapping contest.
Something about this felt a little comical. It's true that pvp now days is taken out of hand a great deal. But PvP in its true form is just competition between players in an online format. It's healthy, fun, and can be a great stress reliever if you don't allow unfortunate outcomes get to you.
PvP isn't a major focus in this game. We don't even have an official server for role-play despite the large amount of role-players flocking to FFXIV.
open world pvp is lame because it always turns into a griefing party , they have zones dedicated for that
PvP server or no classes would be changed to suit open world pvp. I don't enjoy PvE nerfs as a side effect to angry pvpers complaining in droves about being underpowered.
I don't object to the creation of an open world PVP server for those that enjoy it in principle. However, I don't see it as being practical for XIV.
The PVP community strikes me as being on the small side. How many people in XIV love PVP enough to transfer their character to a new server? Or start a new character completely from scratch?
It's possible that there is a sizable group of players that dedicated to PVP in XIV, but given the low level of support this idea gets on the forums I doubt it's enough to keep a new server active.
No thanks!
even just a zone would be great if you teleport there your flagged for pvp
I just really don't see this happening especially because the open world zones are designed as hubs for MSQ events and travel. I don't want to be in a cutscene standing in the middle of Thanalan only to come out of the cutscene dead because someone killed me on sight.
Just no. LOL
What this game needs isn't an open world pvp server (at least not yet). What it needs is to become open world first and then you can think of an open world pvp server but until then there is no point of having such server due to how "small" this game is.
There are definitely a goodly number of pvp players playing FFXIV. I think you may be overestimating the interest in how many of them want an entire open world server.
What about a diadem like free-for-all zone that pulled from your data center so you would have a larger base of players?
The PvP player base isn't small, the rewards and GC limitations is what kills it, the Feast was a nice addition, but the rewards aren't appealing enough, people would get their minion and/or mount and quit, which is what happened.
If you however pointed out the amount of casual PvP and serious ones, then yes, serious players aren't that much, but they're not 50 either, look at the Feast rankings and you'll have an idea.
Also, if there was to be a PvP Server, there would be PvP Balance changes, which is the main issue i see here, in the state PvP is atm, Warrior would be by far the best class to roam and kill others.
Also, with it would come rewards, such as titles, glamours, mounts, minions, etc. That alone would attract people, sadly it would also attract the wrong crowds, such as bad players which would come to the forums complain that X class is OP etc.
For the people saying this game isn't meant for PvP they have no idea what they are saying, and the proof is how Seal Rock, Feast used to be (not anymore because in this game once new content is released it kills previous ones) and now Shatter is, a success, just isn't more because of GC restrictions they insist on tying to PvP.
Same for those saying it doesn't fit the FF universe, there was Dissidia.
My angle on this discussion isn't the size of the community. I know that there is an actual pvp community for this game and it's why SE is still doing new development for said community. I'm not sure I agree with the premise that there are enough of those players who would switch to a wpvp server vs those that would do free-for-all content from their current server.
It might be true that Dissidia exists, but remember that Dissidia is not FFXIV.
As far as I know Dissidia is an arcade fighting game and built from the ground to be one, not an RPG. It doesn't seem to be tied down by lore like FFXIV is.
But nothing tells us that open world PvP can never happen. Even WoW started without open world PvP, it didn't even have Battlegrounds, just like FFXIV.
No, it really doesn't. It doesn't need open world PvP in the least. If you want to fight other players in an open world, go find any one of the numerous MMROPGs that support that crap and beat the living crap out of others to your heart's content, assuming you survive long enough to become strong enough to do that...
Hahahahahahahahahaha No!
I have a feeling that this thread is full of people who don't PvP and are saying they don't want it as if they are going to all be unwillingly sent to the PvP server or forced to participate in a PvP map.
Not sure what you're wanting from it, but my real gripe with PvP is the Grand Company Restrictions. It keeps me from enjoying team based PvP with my friends, and I'm no expert on how the queues work, but I would believe that the Grand Company lock is driving up the Queue times. If they removed the Grand Company aspect, they could allow for a constant drop-in queue. Those entering individually could then be dropped to any team keeping them evened out and not having to wait for a queue. But every freakin time they release it with the Grand Company restriction in place. If I could get faster queues, and play with who I wanted, I'd be doing PvP always.
It kind of comes down to a Resources thing for me. While I don't really do much PVP myself, I totally understand the appeal of it. However, the amount of time, money, and developer effort required to make an open world PvP server would no doubt be enormous. I don't have a problem with others' enjoying it, but I'd want to make sure demand is high enough that the server gets used. From the poll the consensus is No, there wouldn't be enough players for it to be worth it, but to be fair it's hard to get accurate data from here. If they could build the server without cutting into development time for new dungeons and the like, I'm all for it, but from the little data available to me I don't' think the demand justifies the cost.
This game just needs more open world content. PVP server would give the world more life than what we already have lol
I PvP quote often.
I'd not bother with an open PvP server at all.
Sounds really interesting. There should be a lot of limits though, like being immune when you're watching a cutscene etc.
