Personally, I'd like an emperors new book - as I think the animations would look pretty cool if I was casting stuff over my open hand instead of open book.
I think part of the reason for that is that books are hard to change the mold for, you can make big swords, little swords, gloves, knuckledusters, all kinds of different staffs. But a book is a book and all they can really do is change the cover and add a few bells and whistles
IDK how I feel about the Yokai stuff... Well, no, I know how I feel, I hate that stuff... Minions are OK, weapons and mount are beyond stupid IMO... The amount of coverage it got also annoyed me...
That said, if this was something like a Bravely Second cross over event? Ah la vache, I'd be loving all that coverage and all the gear and minions... Quite obviously I'm bias, I don't care about Yokai in the slightest and, much like the Lightning event before it, this campaign has the opposite effect on me; I am annoyed by this and thus even less likely to check it out. Like the Lightning event though, I don't think I really have a problem with it... I can filter all that stuff out... I don't have an aneurysm every time I see someone with that Lightning gear, and I wont when I see these things... I'll just roll my eyes and get on with my day... I'd be incline to lament the wasted development time, but 3.3 is shaping up nicely, so pending another Diadem flavoured disappointment I'm not really all that bothered...
But seriously... We get this instead of a Bravely Second event? Can somebody please bust YoshiPs Ba'als...
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts with me. I am enjoying reading them. I think this is a big step up from patch 3.2 at least. I would like to see better content in the future. I want to see change. I want to see the developers blow minds with innovative ideas and stories. I quit not to long ago for a break. I still care though. So i watch this game like a hawk and i thought there would be no better way than to look at the community. This may be a turning point for FFXIV. Maybe theyre finally going to take risk and give the game some uniqueness or at least break away from being so predictable and repetitive. For now, I have hope. (minus the weird Yo kai stuff lol, but i still want that flying caped cat minion)
I seriously hope it doesn't turn out like Diadem or the GSaucer. This game really does deserve to succeed(some would say it already is a success, but just because you can pass with C grade that doesnt mean you shouldnt try for an A+). Yoshida and co, obviously work hard.
Idea:
An animated book with a face on it that insults/shouts at your combat target. xD
oh, but not every single attack..that would be annoying.
That makes me want to see a class that creates paintings that come to life and has them attack/heal their target
Good Gravy! I'd LOVE to see a Kaiser Oblivion outfit :D
And since we play a V2 version of FF14 it's completly themed cause:
BRAVELY SECOND! THE COURAGE TO TRY AGAIN!
But the event planed is meh.
Because... really... I think that Yokai weapons are... bad...
They push a game in an other with no logic.
The only weapons ok-looking are those without the ugly faces of the monsters.
(furthermore, the game is... kinda bad)
I hope Level-5 pay a lot for this to allow dev to do more this with the money.
Also, i read that we might not be able to have all weapons, such a shame. ( yes i know that i say i don't like them but it's my collecteor soul who talk here.)
Except that, the only thing that bother me is only 2 dungeons...
A new one for MSQ and an old one in hard version... again.
I hope they will someday go for 3 or at least, 2 completly new and not "the same at lvl 60 in """""""hard (lol)""""""" version".
There "lots" of new housing plots being added.
I'm really looking forward to the main story, dungeons, 24 man, Moogle quests, and Hildebrand. :D
Cautiously optimistic about the treasure map dungeon and Palace of the Dead. They both sound fun but sadly SE seems to struggle with implementing new content and keeping it relevant.
Don't really care about the collaboration event since I'm not familiar with that game. I do find it odd they're considering not letting you (or just making it difficult to) collect all the weapons though.
The only thing that really concerned me was the question about Savage. I'm fine with them adding unique equipment models to it but I really hope they never gate story behind raid content like they did with Coil ever again.
MSQ: To be expected, why are people going nuts over this?
Side quests: To be expected, again why are people going crazy over this?
Hilidibrad and Relic: Never liked Hilidibrand and don't have enough time to do relic stuff so it's a pass for me
New Dungeons: Sohr Khai looks really nice, the other dungeon should be great too!... Hullbreaker isle (hard) Just kill me now
New Trial: Poltrgeist should be next right?
http://i.imgur.com/r2rr6Zz.png
Aquapolis: It looks like an instanced dungeon where you fight enemies for the contents of a treasure chest, so, it's what you do normally when treasure hunting just in a dungeon? Alright
The Deep Dungeon: This looks pretty great but then so did Diadem cautiously optimistic
More PvP crap: PvP is garbage
Housing: Never cared for housing
Yo-Kai Watch: A great game getting a collaboration with a mediocre FF title? I'm down for this Yo-Kai Watch is extremely underrated here in the west. This event if the whole world ever gets it is what I'm looking forward to the most, didn't watch the whole live letter and was told about it by a friend so don't know the details. Screw the haters in this thread, most likely probably only heard about Yokai-Watch today.
Since we've got a silly ghost mount can we now have Cloud Strife's Fenrir bike?

Overall, looks alright, again better than the hot garbage we got in 3.1, keep it up dev team but seriously....Hullbreaker isle?
I'm sorry, but how is vowing to save his friend from being killed/ controlled by Nidhogg after watching his comrades suffer and a dear friend die indicative of lack of growth as a person?
The point of that scene with Matoya and the one at the end of the MSQ isn't to highlight his immaturity, it's to show Alphinaud taking matters into his own hands and challenging the boring, parroted narrative of "sacrifice/ suffering is inevitable!!" by doing what he can to save Estinien no matter how impossible it may seem. He has no delusions about it being an easy task. What's childish about not giving up on a friend?
Also, Alphinaud is 16, and has already grown up a lot since we were introduced to him. He shows more self-awareness about relying on the WoL than the rest of the adult cast put together.
Sorry if I missed this but have we got a date for 3.3?
Here are my "thoughts" on the Yo-Kai watch-related info:
http://img2.finalfantasyxiv.com/acci...1aa8e27570.png
"Dear lord, look at that thing. Ugh. Feel sorry for whatever job gets represented by that."
http://img2.finalfantasyxiv.com/acci...a2addf5328.png
"-Oh they have images of the weapons too? Let's scroll down and see what my main DPS job gets..."
...
"...!!"
http://img2.finalfantasyxiv.com/acci...bdeba93a3a.png
...Very accurately represents my reaction
all looks great imo :) 2 questions though:
1. is the Yo-Kai stuff JP only?
2. Release Date? (i'm aware that it says "Currently planned for summer!" but is that just for the Yo-Kai game or is it for our patch too)
no need to hide it like that if that's the case? more likely to be Estinien/Nidhogg.
the new mount flies, the motorbike doesn't. not that same thing?
probably saving crafting for Goblins.
I'm indifferent about the yo-kai watch collab but I'm looking forward to seeing the dragonsong war come to an end finally!
Coerthas Eastern Lowlands is the new pvp zone.... don't know how I feel about that.
Parts that stood out for me at least.
Cross realm Party finder, please dont let this just be for savage, Being able to do roulettes with friends who have changed servers would be awesome. We know you can do cross realm friends lists you did it in 11.
Yo-Kai event. omg yes please ill be all over this simply amazing.
Void ark part 2. Cool ill be down for this.
For me at least thats really all i saw that excited me, they did however mention something which for me at least made me slightly disapointed.
The MSQ will see the end of the dragonsong war, or the final part of this chapter. While the stories in the MSQ regarding ishgard have been pretty good the whole story with Nidhogg feels idk like an afterthought. Lots of fetch quests and talking to npcs and tbh not alot happening outside of the main 3.0 story line and today we see that story is coming to an end? For me its been underwhelming so far i want to see more before the story is ended. Dont get me wrong the Ishgard part has been well done but yeah i just feel like this could have been fleshed out abit more before we got to this stage.
watching people get upset about the yokai watch crossover was really funny, half of them were the same kind of people who would have an au ra ninja named after a naruto character or something, but they couldn't understand why square would choose to do something that doesn't specifically cater to them.
I think from a marketing standpoint, we all have to remember that we in the west are second priority. The Japanese audience is the largest so most marketing decisions target them before anything, and this is definitely no exception. Even if we don't like the anime series or the games it doesn't really matter because a lot of the JAP audience that played those games are probably really happy with the crossover, and are happy to see the FFXIV minions in yokai watch 3. To complain when you're in the ENG audience in a japanese stream for a japanese game where everyone in the stream is speaking japanese that they're doing a crossover with a japanese cartoon to me is hilarious.
Did they say a release date or a release window that they are aiming for, my question is in regards to patch 3.3 of course.
It's mostly me guessing and just going off the screenshots. In the screen shot there's an abandoned camp similar to riversmeet, the zone is also lightly covered in snow and called fields of glory. In 1.0 the lowlands had a camp glory. I could be totally wrong so I guess we will find out soon!
.. THat's subjective. Honestly while the gear is ~20 ilvl's higher the dyable version route is so dman lazy i mean come on not everyone cares about gear lvl and u know what if they made it actually different maybe ud actually attract more ppl to do the damn content.
I guess my response is lukewarm at best. The typical content like new dungeons, void ark, etc. will be fun for the first week or two until the charm wears off and we're just running it for drops/tomes.
As others have said, I'm cautiously optimistic about the new additions like Treasure Hunting Dungeons and Deep Dungeons. Lord (of Verminion) knows they've dropped the ball in the past when it comes to implementing new, innovative content.
I liked the live letter. I'm on the fence about the event items but I'll take the respectable approach and be more open minded about it.
It was half a joke, and half a worry that Aphinaud would choose to forsake Ishgard in order to save Estinian, and that the devs would allow Aphinaud to be in the right. Matoya reminds him of the facts, we are at war, and war has casualties, I don't have a problem with him trying to save a friend, it's about him ignoring Matoya's direction about the nature of war, and his denial about the eventuality that Estinian will have to be struck down.
Also, I don't mind that he is 16 and making mistakes, it's how soon after Matoya says her bit that he turns around and acts like the conversation never happened that makes him come across as whiny and arrogant.
(also I agree that Aphinaud has come a long way in his growth, and I actually have started to like him as a character, that could be why this scene bugs me so much)
Using the Dragon speak dictionary I was able to translate (kinda) the new dungeon's name: Sohr Khai
apology -- so[h]r
sad -- k[h]ai
What it exactly means, I am not too sure
That isn't what really he went with. In the past Aphinaud has been very naïve. That's not the case here. He knows there is a good chance that Estinien can't be saved or even trying may be a long shot. However that doesn't mean they the attempt shouldn't be made. As he said, he doesn't want to be someone who casually sacrifices people for a war. If there is a chance then he wants to go for it, even if it will fail. He actually doesn't say he is willing to sacrifice Ishgard to do it. Just that giving up on Estenien without even trying isn't something he is willing to accept.
Estenien may have to be struck down. That doesn't mean he will have to be struck down.
I have only 2 opinions.
1. I retract any and all thoughts and jokes about the adamantoise being a silly flying mount after seeing screen shots of the "Boo" mount.
and
2. LOK'TAR OGAR! (Sorry. I couldn't resist. I've been playing Horde consistently since Tides of Darkness.)
Self contained low man dungeon seems interesting.
Neutral on the Yo'kai stuff. It's a big thing in Japan so makes sense.
No mention of Diadem, I guess that will be in part 2.
So if this is the end of HW MSQ, does that mean we'll get a new expansion for 27th August? They kind of said that they won't be doing any more big expansions like HW, since it was such a massive undertaking, and balancing 3 new jobs.
So i guess a smaller expansion, with 1 or maybe 2 new jobs?
Otherwise what are they going to do until expansion? just continue increasing ilv cap with new raids every 6 months?
