The only thing I don't like about power leveling is that it's not happening to me. I don't have any moral qualms with people leveling up ridiculously fast, I'm just jealous.

Someone tell me the PL secret. Do I stand on Ul'dah streetcorner and show some leg?
Why exactly are you crying again? You don't want people to level fast through the boring part of the game so they can get to the story or level up other classes and alts? Didn't the info from the other day just say they are replacing leveling with questing?
OP:
Come one guys! Yoshi has already said that "loosing" time in endless grinding sessions won't be the future of MMORPGs neither of FFXIV, so please try to focus your attention on the real problems of the game and not on the 1K EXP a mob ( That you can hit only with 4 Links and Chain #5 ... )
The exp of all monsters is all over the place, no where to go to grind, the exp gets normalised, people throw a fit because you can get really powerful characters to boost one person up 6 levels in a few hours.
The see saw of games design.
Why is there so much angst over this issue? If you get in an xp party and grind it out in an efficient manner you should be rewarded. Most of us have played MMOs before. I don't need 3 months of grinding to figure out how to properly play a tank, mage or melee class. If a plethora of mid-level content that was fun and engaging existed in the game I could see your point about leveling being too fast. We don't have that. Where's all the fun to be had? its the l45 instance, l45 Ifrit battle, spiritbonding your gear to get materia, the 3 beastman strongholds. Tell me why it should take months for my friends who's just joined the game to access all of this when there's barely anything to see along the way.
That isn't even taking into consideration that several classes need multiple near 50's of other classes to do their roles properly so you are looking at closer to a year.
The most interesting part of this debate to me is that time and time again, those who want things slowed down are the people with several classes at cap.
It is of course logical that they have no concern for the brand new player, because they are almost done leveling the things they care about and more people on their level is a nuisance and detracts from their worth.
In reality though, currently the new player takes probably 2 weeks to reach level 25 or so, and if they spend a casual amount of time playing, they will reach 50 in a couple months. When people first start this game they have trouble figuring out where to go to find a party, should they be leveling multiple classes simultaneously, figuring out game systems etc. Unlike the hardcore veterans who have been around for a while, they don't know the shortest path, and many would not take it even if they did. They soak the game in, as it's design intends. After they hit their first cap, they have built enough relationships, and hopefully joined a good LS which can help them with this more efficient, shortest path to leveling their subs.
Also for the record I have never seen a LS saying, "Hey, come join as as a new player and immediately leech off of us!" Most LSs, like most things and people in this game take a little warming up. So, even if he does manage to get into that uber LS, it will take some time before they devote their resources to PLing him.
I'm going to be optimistic and say when the time is right, getting lv50 to lv51 is going to be pure hell whenever the cap goes up. At least that is what I'm expecting.
I just dont understand why people prefer blindness non-stop grind, repeat killing the same mob with no skill is the mmorpg standard of way to get to level cap. Just like FFXI, eventually everyone will have level cap jobs anyway. Its just a matter someone will have all jobs cap, some with only one or two.
So if SE make it exponential exp system to let you grind months of exp to get to level cap will make you feel you are superior?
To be honest, I rather stay in dragaonaery or go to places like dynamis than GRINDING....
And man, even at current rate, getting from 49-50 should takes u 3-4 hours normally.
vs in FFXI, if u can get into merit pt for 74-75, with roughly 12k/hr, it would also take you 4 hours to complete.
and when it was 50 level cap, getting to lv50 only takes u 2hours.
I got from 34-41 in 6 hours the other day. >>; It probably does need some nerfs. I was expecting it to take a lot longer.
Well yeah it's a bit easy to LVL now, but not too bad, let show the dev team what they prepared for us :)
I'll be honest -- I've been playing since launch and I don't have a single level 50 class, and I've devoted lots of time to the game. The leveling curve isn't as fast as you people think. Though I do find it funny that most people arguing the exp gain is too fast have a load of capped classes. If you don't like it, don't exploit it.
That's exactly why we see threads like this. I don't know if they actually exploited or not but I do understand their point although I don't agree with it.
I have ARC50 prior to 1.19 and the leveling process was horrible. you would have a bunch of archers running around killing raptors for no end while other classes auto follow them. I don't blame them for a second, at least now with the link system the fights are more dynamic.
As for Exp gain, will, you mentioned a problem but did you provide a solution? One that actually appeal to the majority not the minority who has most classes capped? If prolonging level gain by providing a more fun mechanism that would require minimum time to participate in or introduce quests that let you travel to new places and then reward you adequately for your time; then I'm all for it. But increasing TNL exponentially so just to force players to mindlessly grind killing the same mobs over and over again, then NO thank you!
/wave Hi Zav!
That gimp mage would actually be me ^^; I did in fact get PL'd by a friend prior to the 1.19a nerf and was able to level myself to cap in under a week.
Just a couple of thoughts on that... While I was able to get 50 fast, I did indeed feel gimped for being a fresh 50. No storyline quests completed and no guildmarks or class abilities learned. In fact, I still don't have my fast cast ability learned yet but plan to get it soon.
With that said, I am thankful that I got the boost and don't believe that I am going to be gimped for too long. People can think that those who got rushed through their levels are gimped but they're not looking at the whole picture. Leveling is only one part of the game. What about that player's individual skill or ability to learn? I may look like a gearless scrub now but I believe I have the potential to contribute to my LS's events should they be patient and put their belief in me.
What the PLing has accomplished for me is that it has opened up doors that were previously closed. Now that I have a 50 I can efficiently complete class quests, explore the world, and progress my character at a more leisurely rate. It is comforting knowing that the 1-50 grind is complete and I can focus on other things.
And as far as gil is concerned, with the materia system I was actually able to make a considerable amount of money while leveling. Getting lucky with materia crafting I was able to afford a set of max level gear the moment I dinged 50 :)
