A cry to the community

My message to the community would be to please leave the mmo snobbery behind. This is a game that isn't complete yet and the rules are currently being redefined. It is also a game that promised that players could completely customize their characters and fill multiple roles. So I wouldn't place any blame on a player just because they didn't fill the role you established for them based on your experiences in other games.

Here's a crazy idea...And correct me if it sounds stupid...

But how about instead of kicking people who don't play their "roles" correctly, you give them advice on how to better utilize their classes? It's really not that hard.

You're also forgetting that XIV was supposed to appeal to a solo-player base. It's kinda hard to learn your role in a party if you're seldom in one if you're pressed for time. Me? I knew I'd never be able to learn to be an efficient Tank or Healer without any practice in a party, so since I play solo most of the time: Being a Lancer was the best thing I could ask for. I'm mowing down mob after mob on my own now, but still, I've yet to see how I'd handle myself in say a dungeon or an NM fight.

To reiterate what you stated before:

Should others be held accountable because the majority of players who are searching for parties are so arrogant that they brush others aside simply because they haven't gotten their levels up yet? I think not.

What the OP was trying to argue was simply from an elitist standpoint which, in the state that XIV and the player base is in, has no validity whatsoever. I would think that he would be parading his achievements around being the self-proclaimed master of his class, and yet all I've seen from him on the forums was merely pollutant posts on threads - doing more harm than good. That doesn't only apply to him, but also a vast majority of the die-hard fanatics and veterans from shoddier MMOs.

While they're spending 9 hours a day polluting the forums, I'm going out into Eorzea and gaining my levels and instead of reprimanding other players for their shortcomings - and especially if they find themselves on the verge of death - I lend whatever help I can offer. People seem to forget that they were all greenhorns at one point, and to make martyrs of those who are at least making an attempt at trying to learn the mechanics is rather condescending, hypocritical, and simply: Pathetic.

I'm pretty sure what he was trying to argue was the fact the Gladiator didn't use Provoke/Cover, was told about Provoke/Cover, used them for one fight and then refused to use them from that point forward because they didn't want hit.

I'm all for letting people play the way they want but get real. You mean to tell me if you invited a Gladiator to tank and they refused to after you got to camp and started fighting that you wouldn't kick them? You can give pointers on how to play a class all you want but if they don't take it in then it doesn't matter.

Well, it's not like there's not unique situations like that. You can't rub all lowbie players the same way, after all. That's just plain ignorant. In any case, if they're eager to play their roles right: It'll show. Sometimes it'll seem like you're talking to a brick wall, but they'll fight for it if they really want it.

I see people throwing around the term "job." But in case you haven't noticed, GLA, as well as the rest of the "classes", is in fact actually just a weapon skill. I know it's all only semantics, but I think people are getting caught up in limiting roles by misinterpreting the weapon skills.

Saying "party" brings to mind that there's some sense of structure and communication.

If a person insists upon playing in a party as he pleases without trying to accommodate the party and do the role in the party, they should go back to solo or duo or whatever, so they won't get in the way of a party or ruin it for everyone in the party.

Also, people who want to be in a party should KNOW, or at least be willing to LEARN to play as a team player. Period.

To the OP: Seems like you just ran into a bad player. Bad luck of you. This is why I don't party with strangers. You never know if the person is going to screw your party or not. Better luck next time! And let me tell you a story.

Back in FFXI, I used to run into a party where tank refused to Provoke. Mages kept dying because the only person with Provoke wouldn't provoke whatsoever. He didn't want to get hit and risk dying, he said. He insisted upon not provoking and ignored whatever reason and party mechanism we tried so hard to explain.

So we decided that BLM and melee DD should stop pulling hate and just let the monster stay on the guy, and WHM must stop curing UNLESS the tank provokes. We told him if he wants a Cure he must Provoke. He asked why WHM is not curing him, we have the WHM reply "Because I don't want to get hit. I get hit when I cure you."

And we cured him only when he used Provoke, seriously. After dying a few times and losing a large amount of EXP, he learnt to tank properly and started to use Provoke on regular basis.

If people are going to "learn their roles" for partying, then first you have to allow for parties to happen so people can get some practice. At least in my experience, it's been veeeery difficult to get low level parties.
Also, people who have more experience with certain party roles should lend a hand to those who don't. It really doesn't take that long, especially when people are willing to listen. It bothers me a ton when people just say "omg n00b" and kick people or leave the party without even providing constructive feedback.

That's only really true for grind parties. Provoke, Taunt, and Warmonger are godsends for content that actually requires a tank. Really, Provoke is great any time your dps or healer needs some breathing room.

Cool story bro.

Now based primarily around parties? I have honestly no clue what you are talking about. With the exception of "end-game" quests and dungeons that require four people you really don't NEED to have a huge party. My friend and I duo together all the time and have never had a problem.

PWRLVL 1-30+ afk ! SE fixed this method of pwrlvl (in 1.19a) when lvl 50 beated train of mobs, thank god its fixed now, so its less abusable at least.

I have GLA at 25, I have not once drawn my sword and I don't have a shield.

Power levelled to this point, but im sure it won't take me more than a few moments to understand what I have available to me, and how to hold threat, ex Career Ninja/Paladin.
