They said they're going to make the ponies (Sleipnir included I believe) fly soon™.

Source? The latest interview I could find was this one that states that primal ponies will be able to fly, Sleipnir is a primal pony. Regardless, it's just common sense that they're going to make Sleipnir fly if they make the others fly. Each and everyone isn't going to have a special form to fly in, they'll be wings that are recoloured or a trail left behind of their respective element, Sleipnir could be a dark cloud or whatever they decide on. They're not about to make Sleipnir worthless, they want people to buy it.
BTW guys... Fenrir does fly in cutscenes in the WotG expansion of FFXI.
The Fenrir in XI is not the same as the Fenrir in XIV. As Bear said, that Fenrir is considered a God, can talk, and is more darkness based as opposed to the Fenrir of FFXIV, which is not a God, is more based around the element of ice and snow, is the legendary pack leader of the Abalathian Hoarhounds, and cannot talk (Atleast I've never seen him talk in the dungeon boss fight.)
I know there's no amount of "please don't SE" that can halt this player desperation to make every thing fly when it makes no sense for it to be in the air.. but
please don't give Fenrir the sparkly fairy wings that you gave Kirin..
Also... From interviews I have read Yoshi P stated that future expansion pack areas will have the ability to fly as well. If this is the case then areas with the ability to fly will outnumber areas you cant fly in. So having a mount that is only good for arr would seem counter intuitive
Flying Fenrir mount ruining my immersion.
Sleipner better be able to fly.
Fenrir fly? Yes, please.
Wings? No, Thanks.
Ice Trail? Yes, please.
All they gotta do is change the text description of Fenrir whistle from GS. Maybe saying something like, GS happened upon a whistle that has the ability to call upon Fenrir the god to come assist adventures in their travels. Probably, maybe, along that line =)
Haha you both have the same face (sorry gotta say cuz it was kind of weird. It looked like the same person replying themselves. You both have the same marks and blush colors and hair color. The only difference are the eyecolor and hairstyle yet kind of similar). And the mount could.fly forget about that damn lore. I've never played another FFXIV than just this one. I joined the game Cu it looked cools and I wanted to try other game. Not everyone is into lore, but most would like more flying mounts.
Fenrir has been shown to defy gravity in Final Fantasy XI so I don't see why he shouldn't be able to fly here as well.
Because, like people have been saying, it's not Fenrir. The game (which usually tries to justify nonsensical things like flying tadpoles or the gaelicat's backpacks) even mentions that it's not Fenrir (nor that this game's rendition of Fenrir is anything close to the previous incarnations anyway), but a trained hoarhound.
But it is Fenrir. Whether it's the leader of a wolf pack or not. Fenrir is no ordinary wolf. This game is Fantasy after all. Is FFXIV seriously going to be ruined for you because a reoccurring being in the Final Fantasies is going to be given the capability to fly?

It's not anything even remotely close to Fenrir in XI. The entry in the mount log reads, "Following the rise of Ishgard, hoarhounds all but disappeared from the Coerthas highlands. However, the shift in climate caused by the Calamity has seen the legendary beasts descend from their mountain dens once more." It seems like they're basically just big fancy wolves.
My Brotherhood Drake BETTER be flyin' now. I put a lot of work into it!! I don't care how it's done.
If the fat chocobo can fly, my Magitek Armor should fly! --> If that Magitek Armor can fly, my Fenrir should fly! --> If Fenrir can fly, Sleipnir should fly! --> If Sleipnir can fly, my Goobue should fly! --> If....
I eagerly await the return of Skybear and to make adamantoise GAMERA
Oh...after reading the description on the picture, doesn't it say name after its pack leader? Meaning they belong in the same pack/family? Maybe flight's been pass down through generation.
Wow! I have nothing new to add to the conversation because I'm stunned at the lack of reading comprehension.
LOL It would be amusing if all ponies could fly, I can see it now move over Ahriman parade pony rainbows have begun.
Or Sleipnir
Magitek winged jeptack please. Or black waltz wings
I could understand Fenrir flying if the was the Avatar Fenrir from FFXI since he flew, but this Fenrir in spite have having the same model is just a wolf.. so I don't get it x.x;;
Sleipnir makes sense because air running is something that it does in almost every incarnation where Odin is a summon..
Chocobos make sense
Dragons make sense
Wyverns and Griffins make sense
Fat chocobos flying are amusing (?)
But previously groundlocked mounts
that have no lore based explanation as
to why they can fly suddenly.. I don't know
It's a bit much.
It just seems like instead of making old mounts fly they could add sleek new mounts that look like they should be in the air
Seeing a dozen people on dragons flying together and landing at once or a big group of grey warden impersonators on griffins is amazing, random mishmashes of things that couldn't possibly get off the ground.. is odd.. lol not exactly keeping with the epic feeling heavensward evokes
Because some people who chose to grind the MGP for it/got incredibly lucky with the cactpot feel that they're entitled for it to fly (and probably eventually swim) and can't stand the fact that it's not relevant to them in the new expansion without flight while other select mounts got the ability to fly. Not to mention since the devs decided to go silly and make the cheaper MGP(and even more ridiculous) mount fly- which only helps their case.
Some acid in this post. Yeesh.
Personally, I lost a lot of interest in Fenrir with the coming of HW. It's probably just to renew interest in a mount that would only previously be used in 2.0 areas, in turn renewing interest in The Gold Saucer... I know on Goblin, we aren't hitting the top-tier Cactpot reward for ticket sales anymore.
I don't think they're terribly concerned about pleasing all 5 people that have the thing. (For the record, I am not one of them.)
I have about 985,000 MGP I've been collecting since the beginning. I'll still be getting Fenrir, flying or not. It was my only goal to get that mount and by gum I'm getting it! Flying would be cool, but if it doesn't, oh well. It is stupid that the turtle flies before Fenrir, though.
I laugh everytime I look at Fenrir's face
1year later since Gold Saucer: I have 900k MGP! Just by playing daily lotterie! I hoped for flying Fenrir, since a Turtle fly why not a Wolf? o_O
