You think our Cash shop is bad...take a look at THIS

I dont think its about gaining an advantage... for some people its just the principle when comparing payment models to other games... for example... im all for a cash shop but not at these prices + sub. I could see actual "microtransactions" like .99cents for things with sub but camon really. Some people are ok with the prices though.

It is what it is I guess.

One thing I want to add though, is that the OP's point doesn't hold water in the regard of this, just because other games have a "worse" cash shop doesn't necessarily mean that this one is acceptable either. We can still criticize their cash shop and leave feedback, just because other games have it worse doesn't mean this one can't get better. Nor should we be complacent and say "well that's just how it is." As to the folks that defend it by saying "well they need to make money," I say to you that the pursuit of profit is not some noble endeavor that is above reproach or criticism.

Personally I don't mind FF14s cash shop. I will continue to be fine with it until/if their shop becomes like SW:TOR's.

SWTOR's shop has:

-Gambling boxes for the newest glamours; gear, mounts, resting items and emotes(there are NO FREE EMOTEs pass the basic set).
-Gambling boxes for ALL dyes. ALL dyes are bought from the cash shop originally.
-Gear with stats(weapons included).
-Quests.
-Access to certain zones.
-Extra character slots.
-Extra hot bars.
-The ability to turn off your head slot.
-The ability to do more than 5 dungeons or pvp matches.
-The ability to respawn at the point you die.
-Access to "housing" which are called strongholds in SWTOR.
-Level 60 characters
-Pots
-Hairstyles, hair color, races, skin color,height, etc all have to be paid for separately.

I'm not saying people should accept FF14's cash shop... but SW:TOR's is a nightmare and I'm truly happy FF14 isn't as bad. For now.

A store gives away 100 free tvs to the first 100 customers through the door. You stroll in 2 days later and demand that since the TVs were obtainable for free at one time you see no reason why you should be charged now. Folks get the picture yet?

Destiny I bought the expansion it wasn't worth it for the price horrible match making and no match making where there should be.
Friends boost each other to unlock the thorn or cheaters unlock thorn by cheating and they took a long time to get rid of cheaters but it was too late I quit.

Even their expansions aren't what I expect the lack luster and no new good weapons G.horn is best gun still and they made expansions.

The store probably over priced junk that you can get from raids.

I don't remember Sleipnir ever being free.

The WORST thing SE has done is make extra retainers $2 a MONTH.

I pay more for my retainers than I do for my monthly sub, and that is rediculous

People who give idea to implement "cash shop" on first time should go to hell :p

Are we still on this cash shop nonsense? Change the record cuz it's really boring at this point.

Can we have a discount on an item if we've bought like 100 of them...cos at the rate I buy fantasia though...;)

Why are comparing a Free to Play game to a Pay to Play Games. Free to Play game always ended up costing more and many times they will try to make you pay no matter what. Also, they need to the money to survive in Free to Play game.

Nice post mate. Looks like you didnt buy the expansion and have no clue what you are talking about.

Also to OP: Destiny sells 18 emotes in their cash shop that doesnt alter the gameplay any way at all. They even let you choose two of those that you like for free. How the hell is that worse than a cash shop in p2p game? Especially when they are gonna give the new content for free until Destiny 2 comes out.

I don't know, if they have to increase the sub fees, I'd rather they increased the sub fees - would be straightforward and direct, instead of cornering players into a situation where they eventually "have" to pay more anyway. Throwing items from the past in a cash shop in a P2P game - that's just shady and leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Those who keep on p(l)aying already paid for all those, and they're just making others pay for them too. Especially with this "reasoning" that that cash shop purchases contribute to further development of the game itself - er, what happens with all the subscription money then? Yes, they're launching an actual European datacenter - now, more than two years after launch. Why is it that pretty much everyone else can do that right at the start of a game? And at the same time (now, more than two years later, with lots of content patches and an expansion later) we're still getting the "can't do it because of servers" blahblah when it comes to a bigger inventory, either directly or via retainers - and oh, look, it actually can be done, it just has to be a rent model because they apparently need more money...? Even more shady.
No, the whole thing just doesn't sit right. Especially in a game where the devs have been (used to be?) so obsessed with "restoring trust" and being transparent and communicating with the players. Dunno about others, but I personally don't like being taken for a fool.

Never is Sleipnir any better than other mounts nor should it be a common mount. Most time high prices are mean to create inhibition to keep something rare ("should i really pay this price for it?")

Other solution to give it "for free" without hurting the rarity is giving it out like the Fenrir mount ("should i really grind 1m MGP for it?").

I find it funny that some people refuse to even touch a subscription game but will gladly fork over 20-30 a month for cash shop items in other games. As for destiny if its just the emotes, those are completely pointless other than for laugh factor to me, so not needed and easily ignored. Same with mogstation, only difference being we pay monthly to play this (dunno about Destiny, don't play) but I still feel everything should be obtainable.

IIRC, FFXI let you buy seasonal items from last season from a vendor. Why can't they do that with FFXIV? Well, they can... but then they can't milk players for more monies.

Or make the items tradeable. This way the players, who did the event, can buy it from the calamity NPC and sell them to the players who missed it.

DotA2 is F2P done perfectly. That game makes huge amounts of money, and not once have I even felt slightly compelled to spend a single cent on it.

Bit off topic, but speaking of the calamity NPC - does anyone know if BOTH of the ghost costumes are available from there? During that very first ARR Halloween event, I know for a fact I had received that first costume, but I never completed the quest for the 2nd (I think one was a smile, one had a frown). Somehow I ended up dropping the costume (sad day, I always keep my fluff stuff!), but the calamity NPC doesn't give me any options for a ghost costume.

And yet, Pefect World still reigns number 1 as the biggest F2P MMO ripoff when it comes to its cash shop. EVERYTHING is locked behind the Boutique. If you want Rank 9, that's 2k$ up front(the weapon is 500 IIRC). Refines will run you 10K.

XIV use to do that too. I think they started placing things in the cash shop around the end of last year/beginning of this year.

This is a terrible analogy.

If you don't like the FFXIV cash shop, just pretend it doesn't exist. Other than a small number of "glamour" items, the game won't be any different.

Now me, I like having the opportunity to give SE a little extra reward when I'm particularly happy with how FFXIV is going, while at the same time getting something fun to just fool around with. So I'm glad the cash shop is there.

But if your enjoyment of the game hinges on being able to get Metallic Red dye without paying real money for it, well, I don't understand that. Maybe there's a Project Runway MMO you can play instead?

And if it just annoys you as "a matter of principle," you need to realize how ridiculous being an MMO SJW really is.
It's just a game. Getting all angry about a game is a waste of valuable energy, so go fight poverty in the 3rd world or something, OK?

I played the Demo of Destiny. Game has totally no story mode. And all you do is grind grind grind... <.<
I dont understand why people play this. And I cant believe this game is made by the people who maded Halo. Never!

This is a subscription game. There are plenty of people that feel that all items available should be obtainable in game since we are paying for it monthly. That's pretty much it. Pulling items from game and putting them in a cash shop only is a bit sleazy.

You act like this matters, they are still charging us for garbage that could just be in the game while we are paying a sub on top of purchasing the game, the expensive, and their tiny dev team shovels recycled content formula into our faces. And its okay to just eat it up right? The holiday items was a load of crap, you used to just be able to purchase it from the vendor during the next years event. But SE quickly realized people will spend tons of money on glamour and pulled that to slap into the Cash Shop. I see that they have indeed even started adding old seasonal event emotes to the ship to instead of, I dunno. Re-adding the previous years quest, or adding it as an additional reward for the current years seasonal which iirc FFXI did for years if not until this very day.

I'm also fairly sure that its 8 minions obtainable only from Cash Shop, not 4. You can go ahead and throw in an additional mount and an additional minion from the wedding ceremony services as well since that is the only method to obtain them.

Not to mention instead of just releasing a full CD despite having all the music for HW 3.0 they decide to release them as 5 track mini disks for 15 bucks a pop. Because they are getting way more money selling 5 different CDs with different tracks for 15 bucks a pop than a single CD for 24/30 dollars. It is not about making a good game anymore, its about trying to milk as much cash out of this until people get tired of the content draught. And I swear to all that is holy if someone says 'create an alt' or 'not all jobs are 60' I might snap. That is not content, its the same stuff I all ready waded through to get to the content.

ITT: comparing f2p game with sub game.

Also, personal opinion: so long as its not actual gear, I cont care. When I can buy raid gear, we have a problem.

I'm not so sure about that, I know that the Minfilia and Thancred were most certainly available in game through a seasonal event, as was the Little Ladies Day doll. I'd have to look at the list of minions in the shop again to be sure, but I thought a couple more were previously available in game through an event as well.

They added most all the Scions now. Alphinuad is the only one available through quests iirc. FYI If I come off as being an ass, it's not intentional. I played this since its original failed release, and I love the game. I wanted to keep loving it and I am incredibly dejected with the direction the game is going. It seems less and less about making a good game and more and more about stringing people along and milking the community for every cent they have.

Cash Shops can be appropriate in subscription models, buts moving away from something that is there that pays for data migration/changes (Name/Race/Server) that goes into the development and maintenance of hardware. And more along the lines of SE sees as their cash cow and taking advantage of the community and their fans.

I see people are still grabbing straws defending and looking for arguments to defend the horrible state of FFXIV.

I don't know since when it's viable to compare a game you pay a subscription against a game you don't pay any, you don't pay a subscription for Destiny, you do pay for the online on consoles, but that's just to use both consoles overall online services, that being said, FFXIV cash shop is crap and should not exist, I'm not gonna defend it on any subscription based game other than the usual transfers, remake ticket etc. There's exclusive cash shop dyes in FFXIV and mounts...

Both aren't even comparable.

Just because it could be worst, does not mean we should be complacent with what we have if we are unsatisfied.

Hell. This game could've never left Japan, and been a Japanese-only MMO, with the creators constantly promising that they would give us further updates. Only to release a poorly translated SEA version with english so abysmal it makes your ears explode, as well as a region-lock on it to the SEA region. Ultimately would give up and go to using a Fan Translation patch to play on the Japanese server, where most of those players may well hate you because they're a bunch of Xenophobes.

Wait, am I talking about FFXIV or PSO2? I got sdietracked.

You are getting the game you agreed to pay for for your subscription. You're not entitled to more than that.

Riddle me this silverbane if the Developers just threw open the doors to the game and said "Pay us money to play this" and never updated it, and just left the game stagnant for years. How many people would pay to play that game?

My answer: I imagine not a soul.

The subscription Fee covers a consumers expectations that the developers will continue to release new content that is worth the money they invest into the game on a per-month basis. Wether legally obliged or not you would nothing but ruin by trying to enforce the TOUA on respectable business level it's legal backing to prevent a fallout if they fail to deliver anything worth cost but it's not something any developer would be sane to agree with.

Developer: You want content? "You don't pay for content"
