I love this game. However idk how I feel about the way red Mage will be designed. In ffxi. It was the bread on the butter. Just full of uniqueness.
With the way they homogenize classes I doubt red Mage would be nearly as unique.

I more up for a beast master class. it might cool to see a attempt made to make beast master pet tanking class. i love see if this possilbe to have pet tank class
My kingdom for a Dancer class! I loved it to pieces in FFXI.
Red Mage is two things;
White and Black Magic user.
Sword/Rapier user.
They can make it plenty unique off that alone. One could argue that our Healers are already half that (all having both heals and nukes), but the only Job that really makes use of both melee and magic in a particularly good fashion, is Dark Knight. Though even that seems a bit lacking.
Red Mage, as either a Healer or DPS Mage, or even a Tank, that also uses TP for various combos, could be fairly unique in this game. Paladin and Dark Knight are really the only Jobs that properly use MP and TP, though they're very limited in that scope. I imagine Red Mage would make for a perfect Melee/Mage DPS Job, similar to Bard. Not casting for each GCD action, but just having access to a lot of support related skills while also being the first Job to really DPS with magic and melee.
I mean, right off that bat; Most combos in this game simply lead into another, or debuff the enemy. Lets take Red Mage, give them some Fencing combos, and have them buff the Red Mage. Whatever its role is, it does some melee combos to obtain a buff for its spells; Either to nuke or heal. That would be pretty unique in this game, and I'd love the heck out of it. Combo > Spell is pretty much unheard of in his game. We don't really have a melee/mage hybrid, and Red Mage is the prime Job for that role.
This was a really neat idea for an anniversary quest, I really enjoyed it!
Red Mage is exclusively for Yoshi-P.
Additional Limit Break might surface upon implementation.
Eorzea's End - It delivers a server-wide area of effect attack with potency of 999999.
BLU should come in as the tank. It'll be a storyline about becoming a monster to defeat monsters. Level 30 quest line will have us go through some horrific questline to test our resolve, making us figure out who/what is a monster and who needs to be protected. Basic combo's will revolve around body parts turning into claws and horns. Special attacks like the Couerls Lightning wave, Bom's explosion, dragon turtle reflect, a counter mechanic where you can reflect a weaker version of the named move, and the like will be CD's or combo finishers. Weapon will be a whip/chain for attacks that don't involve body morphing.
Also, things like the Couerl's lightning wave don't have to be offensive. Could be a shield of lightning, or stomping the ground could weaken incoming attacks. Spike's to reflect damage could be a passive defensive aura. This can be an actual thing, it just won't be the Blue Mage that was in FFV-XI; it'll be wholly aimed at meeting FFXIV's needs. With how DRK's story went I'd be really interested in seeing them take the approach of us becoming monsters while keeping our humanity. A blend of WAR and DRK more or less.
If it goes the route of DPS I won't be mad, I just want them to focus more on becoming a monster itself than simply casting monster spells.
Out of everything I found in that room the two that really made me excited were:
Doomtrain
Blue Mage
But all the little hints, laughs, awesome touches and trolling (good trolling!!) going on in that room was amazing and now I can't wait for 3.0 and into 4.0 for more information~!
I kinda wish they would leave that room up year round and have a NPC that would take you to it - and they could change the things each NPC says throughout the year to hint at things. It would be a super fun way to let people know whats coming up~!
How to make a FFXIV Red Mage:
Enhancement Shaman from WoW + add of FFXIV touch to make RDM fans happy = FFXIV Red Mage
It is very hard to decide how to approach RDM's I imagine. You have the group that wants it to be a rapier user with magic, then the group who wants to utilize healing and support abilities, the ones who like black magic and some debuffs, and the ones who like it all together. Unfortunately trying to make that all a thing makes it a cluster job with a loss of identity. I know it is the Jack-of-all-trades, but it still ultimately has to be under a set role and SE has already said they are not changing the formula any time soon.
If you play Enhancement Shaman in WoW, you can see how this could be translated to RDM. It is just opinion though.
If Doomtrain is happening, it could easily be part of Hildibrand season 2. Yoshida already confirmed that's in the works.
Who better to suplex a train than Godbert Manderville?
Red Mage probably will end up as mage DPS who can buffs the entire party with AOE enspells, and more enfeeble, thus fall in line to the Bard + Mech in party set up. Otherwise, if they put Red Mage as healer who can buff the party, it will be competing with AST, and you will have another uproars on healer forum. They could also take approach of FFXI Sch, and turning RDM who can select stance before joining the duty finder, either as healer, or DPS - but then we may have another revolt from those Arcanists....
Please no he will ridicule it. I prefer a malevolent train which rides us into our doom and fight happens on that train on the move. I got bored of circular rooms with the boss in the middle. leviathan tried to bring a new mechanic in the environment and it was fun. For doom train I prefer a fight on the train as it moves. Nobody really knows how they will use Doomtrain in this game. Time will tell.
I don't even know how they would do underwater content. Its my understanding that people actually hate it for a number of reasons from programming to gameplay.
any one ever play monster hunter tri on the 3ds? Underwater combat was annoying and other games too I'm sure.
IV never played the ff game where this was in I saw a video and I think it just would look really weired as a plane fight.
Instead maybe a dungeon where you have to clear each train car. And at the end maybe Bigs and Wedge can appear on a hand cart and you fight the engine on that.
Personally, I'd love to see a samurai or red Mage as a melee "support dps", but with different support skills than bards and mch. We don't need another TP/MP battery.
While I'd prefer Samurai as a dps, I'd take a tank as well.
keyword here is.... XI. XIV isn't XI. what worked in XI, doesn't necessarily work here.
BLU worked, cause all jobs had access to a lot more skills...here we don't.
BLU will be restricted to same amount of skills, as every other job (27)
i'm gonna assume that BLU will be DPS, so it will have various DPS skills, sort of like BRD (as in no particular combo) some self heal, like White Wind, and some utility skills/buffs.
Yoshi basically already said Blue mage was a no go right now but red mage was possible and that it won't be what people expect.
I'd definitely would like to have Doomtrain operate like the Phantom Train. Dungeon on the inside, then outside fighting the engine.
Dancer?

new continent or the moon.

I have always wanted this to be a thing since before 2.0 came out. It would be really cool to be trapped in the train, work your way through each cart, some containing bosses, then you fight the train at the end kind of like Bismark. It would be very easy to put a FFXIV spin on it.
Or an idea what someone else said, have Doomtrain be involved in the Hildibrand quest. I'm also fine with it being a straight up primal fight also.
or you know, doomtrain is probably just a boss in new dungeon...or just trolling.
Hmm. What if the UFO/Void Ark in 3.1 turns out to be FFXIV's Doomtrain... not sure how I feel about that.
Erm.. the hell is Doomtrain?
http://www.wowhead.com/zone=6984/grimrail-depot
Like that?
Whole fight inside the damn train. Obnoxious camera angles and all.
EQ(predates FFXI) had lizards, cats, ogres and trolls.
Literally. And frogs. EQ2 has frogs and rats on top of two types of lizard and cats. And vampires. And an actual friggin dragon.
Edit because post limit.

There's also the Phantom Train from FFVI.
no now i understand the hero of darkness is your other half of you. you are hero of light and the hero of darkness is your other half. at end this heavenward they was scene on moon use they stand in hero that your other half koja was give hint to the main story quest he/ she is your clone
Blue mage is already confirmed it is fray he/she is not an drk with an stave and the armor it has, has blue tones and a turban type head covering so it has been hinted Sam,red, blue se loves to hint as they did with astrologian from the start of arr with astrologian observatory so we might get 1 of the 3 3.1 and the other 2 3.4
I hope they add Blue mage to this game and then eventually a dps DNC.
I don't understand, we did not get those info ie the french version oO
Does anyone know if it was in the japanese version ?
I think Samurai and Redmage was mostly Trolling with the most asked topics and questions. Red or Blue debate might be a idiom or a play on Black & White, Red &/v's Blue, Silver & Gold ect. Doomtrain sounds like a possibility, but if it's true. Was it actually the supposedly failed summoning from 5 years ago? So the goblins to make an underground rail system on par with Garlians Phantom train so they can work on materials for Alex. If its true then its just as likely well see Half life 3 released before Doom 4.
I wish they would bring Puppetmaster next!! A melee DPS who can heal, or do ranged attack, or magical attack, what a joy!!
Simply false. Are you kidding me about DRK using greatsword over scythe > 60? I've played FFXI until Sea(came back a few times after) and DRKs never used greatsword. You seriously don't remember the greatness of the Guillotine weaponskill(which basically started at 60)? Vassago's Scythe? Nothing? DRK main weapon in XI was scythe, no question. The relic was a scythe. Their highest rating with a weapon was a scythe. Scythe has DRK only weaponskills, greatsword doesn't.
So no, after 60, you were not laughed at for not using a scythe. A DRK without a scythe and not using Guillotine after lvl 60 would be laughed at.
^ Not to mention 60 was when you got Guillotine which was the DRK WS of choice in any form of burn party... I will never understand all the hate against Scythes...
